Classic movie transferred well to blu-ray

This is a movie I would consider to be a must-have for any blu-ray collection. It's a great example of how the technology has evolved and how they can take 40+ year old material and make it look great again.

This is one of my favorite movies, it has great cinematography, plus the scale of the movie is amazing. If it's your first time watching the movie be warned that the beginning is music playing over a black screen for some time. One the movie does start we get a beautiful story of man featuring one of the most menacing computers in history. A must watch

Fifty years later this movie has aged well and still looks amazing. The Blu-ray price has really dropped, maybe in anticipation of the 4K version coming later this year. If you have a 4K player you might want to wait. The Blu-ray looks very good, but there are bits where I wonder if the picture couldn't maybe look a little sharper.

The commentary by the two stars of the movie is OK, but doesn't really offer much insight. There are people who have studied this movie for years and even written books on it who may have had more to contribute. The sequel, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, is also available on Blu-ray and worth it if you get it cheap.

2001 A Space Odyssey 4K Version

Everyone has heard about or has seen 2001 A Space Odyssey. At times it is hard to follow and the ending left people asking what just happened. 2001 A Space Odyssey was released in 1968. In 1968 the special effects were amazing. Now in 2018 redone using 4K technology the special effects really stand out. But if you didn't understand or like the 1968 version, the 4K version will not change your mind. But if you were not around in 1968 and have never seen it I recommend that you purchase this film and decide for yourselves. It is worth the money. Arthur C.. Clack wrote 4 Space Odyssey novels, 2 were made into films 2001 A Space Odyssey, 2010 Odyssey Two (The film was called '2010 The Year We Make Contact'). The last 2 novels 2031 Odyssey Three and The Last one 3001 The Final Odyssey. I read the other day that a Cable network has bought the rights to 3001 The Final Odyssey and plan to make it into a mini series. I am hoping that the 2nd of the 4 books made into a film 2010 The Year We Make Contact is released in 4K also. That film answers a lot of questions that were left where 2001 A Space Odyssey left unanswered. A great film especially in 4K.

New 4k transfer

Having already owned 2007 blu ray release, I can tell you that this new 2018 4k transfer is the perfect reason to upgrade. The slight blurriness that was visible along the bottom of the 2007 release is now gone along with the occasional dirt and speckles. The color palette has been tweaked and has more "pop". Perfect. Love the artwork on the steelbook as well.
