The most recent blu-ray edition of 2001 looked great. This 4K version far, far exceeds it. Nothing like actually feeling blinded by sunlight reflected off model space stations. The print quality, contrast, clarity, and soundtrack options (either a “remastered” Dolbyized multichannel track or the ORIGINAL multichannel sound) all make this 2001 essential.

Is the end of the road near? I've bought this on VHS, laserdisc, HD DVD and now 4K UHD. I can't imagine this movie ever looking or sounding better. If you're a Kubrick fan, or a fan of great cinema period, this belongs in your collection.

I have read Warner Bros. made an 8K scan of the original negatives. Someday, if there's a successor to 4k UHD, I'll be buying this movie again with pleasure.

2001 on 4K HD is probably almost as mind blowing now as the original release was to theatre goers back in the 60's! It absolute pops off the screen and the audio was superb also. The extras are outstanding and a must watch in my opinion. The steelbook packaging is also a nice addition to the overall product. This is a must own movie for all serious film enthusiasts ( of course you already know that).

Finally a beautiful looking transfer of Kubrick’s experimental endeavor into the deepest of the dark - 2001: A Space Odyssey. Especially beautiful in 4K. The film itself is a monolithic tour de force that explores far more than just Space, it explores the inner workings of humanity too. What is achieved technically is so far past it’s time that parts still mesmerize and captivate in the modern day. What looks aged is still a wonder to watch though, with intricacies that surpass the meticulous nature of most filmmakers. The plot and production make up for an experience that is practically impossible to capture in words - plain and simple, this film must be seen - must be experienced!
