I just bought the vacuum after comparing the Dyson yellow & animal versions. For less than half the price I did really well. I first emptied the container and then vacuumed my floor with my dirt devil bagless. Then I assembled my new vac. with the three screws, it took a whole 5 minutes. I then vacuumed the same floors I had just vacuumed. The amount of sand and cat hair that it picked up amazed me. I thought the carpet was clean since I had just vacuumed it, I knew my other one sucked, but didn't realize how much until I tested it. I still am interested to see if the Dyson is better, but short of having my friend bring her's over, I don't think I will find out. I am so happy with the Bissel! The only negative point is how the bucket is emptied. I do not like the dirt left in the top filter when you remove the cup. The dirt falls down onto the base if it is bumped and needs to be cleaned of with something else since the vac hose connects to the dirt cup. Over all, a great vac and the dirt left is small compared to what it picks up. BUY IT, YOU WON"T BE SORRY!
What's great about it: The suction on this vacuum blew me away!
What's not so great: The dirt left in top filter of the machine when cup is removed to empty is bad.

I own beagles. They shed constantly and in three colors, meaning that you have to vacuum and lint-remove constantly. When my trusty vacuum of 3 years failed in the middle of my normal cleaning regiment, I purchased this item and continued my multi-week ritual. I was shocked that the bag less canister filled up so quickly and at first was pretty dissatisfied...but then...
...Then I re-vacuumed the area that my old vacuum had already covered. Topically it had previously looked fine, but for the sake of being thorough, I went again. The shear amount of dust and dander that this product pulled out of my carpets was shocking...disgusting, but shocking and frankly it was very satisfying to know that we were on the right path for something closer to a true allergen free home.
It has been 3 months now, and with normal carpet maintenance, this vacuum has continued to make us very happy to plug it in and scour the house. It has been completely reliable with no faults. Further, the attachments are fantastic, especially the Turbo Brush which has proven very useful on both stairs and furniture. We were surprised by its speed and dirt-grinding ability.
Our only recommendation for future buyers is that if the canister is full, tap the side of the canister prior to opening and removing it so that all/most of the dirt settles first. If the user monitors the intake though, this will not be an issue.
Overall, this is a fantastic item that I would buy again and again and for the price, you just can't beat it.
What's great about it: Powerful, versatile, user-friendly.
What's not so great: Cord could be positioned a little higher...

Logically, no person should be as excited about a vacuum as I am about my new 'toy' but I cannot help it. We have a large property, four dogs and four cats that move in and out all of the time...and a lot of dust. Past vacuums have never been able to stand up to the job and I was about to give up when I came across this product. I'd heard a lot about the Dyson in the past but couldn't justify shelling out 500 bucks for a vacuum. Thank goodness I checked out Best Buy. All of these great reviews couldn't possibly be wrong and believe me, they are not. From the moment I pulled it out of the box, I knew this was something special, and after slipping in three quick screws, I was off and running. This piece of equipment is amazing and, for a very reasonable price, I added a four year extended warranty onto it, though I'm not anticipating any problems. I've had it now for about a month and while I have to change the canister often (because it sucks up so much stuff), I'm certainly as happy as I could be. It weighs about 20lbs, I believe, but for me, it's not been any trouble at all and I personally think that the little extra weight helps it move smoother across the carpet. No complaints on this thing!
What it comes down to it- If you own a pet (kids, or a husband), you need this machine! I'd suggest stopping your search now and then running out and buying this.
What's great about it: The canister is easy to empty, it moves smoothely and it picks up everything.
What's not so great: It's a little heavy for my grandmother, but that's about it.

We purchased this vacuum because we have a dog that sheds alot. The vacuum did a great job of picking up the hair, dirt, etc. Unfortunately, the vacuum only lasted 12 months. Now it makes a horrendous noise and has lost most of its suction power. I disassembled the vacuum to look for a clog, but there was none. It appears the electric motor has gone bad. It begins to overheat if used for more than 5 minutes. Resulting in a burning plastic smell. The cost to repair it is going to exceed the cost of a new one. I'm going to purchase a Dyson.
What's great about it: Cleans well, good price, nice features
What's not so great: Short lifespan, brush keeps spinning when attachments are used

I bought this vacuum in Feb of 2009 after reading all the great reviews on this site. I have a Chow/Collie mix and deal with a lot of fur constantly covering the carpet and furniture, and this vac seemed like the way to go. At first I loved it. It seemed powerful and got the job done (although the attachments are a joke). However, 10 months later, it started having problems with the brush not turning and the belt breaking really easily (hate that burning rubber smell!). Thank goodness it was still under warranty so I could get it all fixed at no charge, but the man at the repair shop said to NEVER go bagless if you have an animal with long fur. A few weeks ago I decided to give up on the Bissel for good and find a new vac, this time with a bag. After lots of comparison shopping, I ended up with the Eureka Pet Lover bagged pet vac. It was on sale at Best Buy and got outstanding reviews. Everyone said the suction was better than a Dyson and one reviewer even said she had never gotten a clog in it like she had in other vacuums! The only criticism was that the construction seemed to be a little cheap. I agree...some of the plastic parts seem a little flimsy, but it absolutely gets up EVERYTHING from the carpet. I'm just hoping the performance of my new Eureka can outlast the old Bissell!
What's great about it: not much
What's not so great: heavy, loud, stopped working after less than a year

If you have pets- stop right here, get in your car and go buy this vacuum. I have two cats a bird and a messy husband. I am a "nesting" pregnant lady and have suddenly become obsessed with uber clean floors. I am a clean person and our bedroom was vacuumed a week ago. My husband just took out this marvelous machine and proceeded to fill the canister TWICE with what appears to be another couple of cats!! You can actually hear it sucking the tiny sand from deep within the carpet!! This vacuum is amazing and actually does everything it says that it does. My husband keeps coming downstairs to show me just how disgusting our carpet has been all this time which really is quite disturbing. TRUST ME, BUY THIS VACUUM!!!
What's great about it: Serious suction power & pet hair lifting ability.

My husband and I live in an apartment with two kittens. I never realized how much hair and dirt my old vacuum missed until I ran this one for the first time! This vacuum picked up two canisters full of cat hair, kitty litter, dirt, and dust that my old vacuum had left behind! I couldn't believe how dirty my floors had been! I love the power of this vacuum--it picks up hair and dirt in one pass, making for a quick vacuuming experience every time I use it. It's not too big or too heavy for everyday jobs. It also has some great attachments, including an attachment for cleaning pet hair off of your furniture--and it actually works. I love the bagless feature--I can just empty the canister right into my garbage can without having to replace a bag (which could get pretty expensive with the amount of dirt and hair my two kittens and my Marine husband track into our home!) I would highly recommend this vacuum to any pet owner. It's not too big for my apartment, but big and powerful enough to get the job done!
What's great about it: Powerful suction, excellent for vacuuming pet hair, great price, great value, not too big or heavy, easy to use
What's not so great: Have to wind up the cord, loud

We have 2 cats, one a long haired and this vacumn is absolutely the best I have ever had. I was totally blown away by the amount of cat hair, dust, dander, etc. that my older Hoover upright was missing and that vac wasn't that old. Litterally about half a plastic grocery bag of "gunk" and it hadn't been that long since my last vacuming. Our carpets and rugs "look" clean until you use the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser !!! I HIGHLY recommend this vacumn especially it you have pets and even if you don't. Would help tremendously with allergies also !!! I live in a new construction house and couldn't believe the Bissell Hair Eraser even pulled left over sheet rock dust up through the padding and carpet. DON'T waste your hard earned money on any other vacumn !! I've even use an over priced Dyson and it "sucks" (in a bad way) compared to the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser !!! The on deck attachments are great also, long flexible hose, small attachment for sofa's etc..!!!
