With the new Terminator coming out I wanted to start watching the previous ones to get a little refresh on the characters, timeline etc. I was surprised I was missing T2 so I went out and got this one. The 4k was on sale so I went with the upgrade. I have to say it was worth it. Compared to the others that I own on blu ray, you can see an improvement. The movie itself is good if you are into these kind of shows. I think T2 is the best of the series, which is why it surprised me to find out it was the one I didn't own.

Could not give negative stars. Absolutely the worst 4K transfer ever. The overall picture is dark and even with contrast and brightness turned all the way up it was dreary. Stick with the 1080p HD version.

Controversial T2 Release

Many T2 fans seems to think that this is one of the worst 4K releases to date. I am glad that I purchased ($7.99) and now have this 4K physical copy. However, I also hold onto my other Blu-Ray copy for its appreciated value...

Aside from a different color timing and grain reduction/digital smoothing, Cameron did make many, somewhat-obvious changes to the source (like George Lucas did to the original Star Wars). Frankly, that is somewhat regrettable. Changes were straightening the knife stabbing shot at the biker bar/billiards/restaurant near the beginning, erasing the T-1000's "private" parts as he crouched beside his first kill (making him asexual?), keeping the glass from falling off the 18-wheeler's front after the T-1000 drove it off the bridge, and superimposing Arnold's face onto his stuntman's face as the T-800 (Model 101) drives the bike off the ledge (and racing from the exploding 18-wheeler). Were these all necessary? If Cameron refrained from making these changes and stuck to the original completely, then in my opinion, you'd have an awesome 4K (even if stuntmen were recognizable). I really like the picture quality (colors and contrast), and think the sound is amazing (crispness and range levels). But the question of whether or not you buy this release I think solely comes down to how much of a purist you are.

Make sure you have a 120Hz 4K tv to get the 120fps

It’s a whole different experience in 4K. However, make sure you have a 120Hz 4K tv to get the 120 frames per second, otherwise you will experience artifacts here and there. I’m really upset that 120Hz is not the standard for 4K TVs.
