Absolutely a must for anyone who is an anime and/or sci-fi fan.
If you have previous home video versions this is definitely worth the upgrade. The video and audio quality is fantastic, especially for an older, non-digitally animated movie. Nice amount of extras, too.
The only negative, and what kept it from being a 5 star review, is that the end credit music is not the original. The movie has a striking soundtrack. Whether it was a mistake or some licensing issue, it's a shame. The soundtrack for the rest of the movie is the original. Honestly, if I could give 4.5 stars, I would since it is just the end credit music, but I couldn't justify a full 5 stars.

They've 4K Blu-ray Ultra HD'd this fine film and SteelBooked it for your viewing and displaying pleasure. A must have in your anime collection.

I bought this mainly for the bonus features since I own the remastered Japanese Blu-ray.
The picture is good, though not as good as the Japanese BD. Still, it's solid. The subtitles are accurate unlike the previous North American Blu-ray. The subtitles match the Japanese Blu-ray and the North American DVD releases. Unlike the previous North American Blu-ray, there aren't any missing sounds.
The bonus features are pretty entertaining. The commentary is kind of fun if for no other reason than to hear the adaptive scriptwriter tell the story of her meeting with the film's director. I'm impressed that the old US trailer was remastered and included as a bonus feature.
All in all, this is a solid release.

This anime like Akira revolutionized anime besides having just a straight out plot that could be followed by anyone. This anime was created for an intelligence audience. The philosophical qoutes and verses from the Bible that are incorporated into this movie only make it more revolutionary.
So revolutionary that the creators of the Matrix (The Wachowski brothers) acknowledge that Ghost in the Shell gave them influence for the trilogy. Also there is a rumor that there will be a live action version and steven spielberg will direct(only a rumor i heard through the grape vine).
I would deffiently recommend this to anybody. This is not the short of movie you can get up an walk away from because you have to absorb every lil bit in order to get the full effect. Each time you watch it again you notic something new.

Feature: No. Just, no.
The original Ghost in the Shell is a masterpiece, and one of the reasons for this was its direction and what it did in terms of visual imagery, and the meaning every image contained.
This version decides that meaning is over-rated, and replaces it with distracting CGI, and awkward color changes.
You'll be doing yourself a favor by watching the original rather than this washed-out, destroyed pile of remains. It's a shame that the original doesn't get released on BD.
Video: Animation on Blu Ray. Need I say more? It's amazing.
Audio: Much better than the DVD release, which was already pretty good.
Features: Also good. A lot of nice, in-depth featurettes.
What's great about it: I suppose that it has good video quality and special features.
What's not so great: It's a horrible butchering of the amazing original film, which would've looked great on Blu-Ray.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

"Ghost in The Shell" even after 25 years, still brings strong and creative visuals as well as a captivating soundtrack to this anime classic and is a perfect film for fans as well as newcomers to the genre. Through a sweeping and sprawling vision of an endless city-scape GITS not only offers action and adventure, but delves into the larger questions of artificial intelligence, surveillance, and existence; all which still resonate today. This pioneering work of animation not only helped to bring anime into the main stream but also helped to establish the cyber-punk genre. While the visuals still remain sharp, with some cgi segments may have not aged as well in comparison, both benefit from Blu-ray treatment and offer lots of eye-candy. In the end, GITS still remains a must watch for anime fans and for those looking for an adventure.

It was great to see this classic released on blu-ray. I did not mind the cgi animation added to some of the scenes, and would not have minded if they entire film had been redone in the cgi.
If you are a fan of Masamune Shirow or Ghost in the Shell, then I would recommend this blu-ray to you.
My only complaint is that there really could have been more extras on this blu-ray edition.
