The movie is highly entertaining, much like all the other movies, but possibly not quite up to par as the others. Not a big fan of how they put the hardcore action scene in the middle instead of the end like in the book. And strays too much from the book for my taste, but overall very well if you can get around that!! :)
What's great about it: Great effects, and actors are passionate
What's not so great: Strays too much from the book.

I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter films. Notice I said films, not books. I have not read any of the books, but that doesn't take away from the movies at all. I know people say the books are better, but when you haven't read the books, I really don't care if I'm missing anything. This film looked so beautiful to me in theaters. It uses any and every color you can think of, and it's great to see how the series is getting darker and darker. One complaint I head is the Voldemort is very underplayed in this chapter, but I was fine with that. We still get to see the youthful Tom Riddle at different stages in his life, and we et glimpses and his slow turn to evil, which I thought was awesome. Yes, it's more of a filler movie, but it works perfectly, setting up everything for the last two epic films, and I can't wait. If you have a Blu-ray player, I highly recommend picking this up on BD, you will not be disappointed.
What's great about it: A great addition to the series

You really need to read the book if you want to understand what's going on. This movie is the worst adaptation in the group. Too much vital info is left out. The cinamatography is great, the acting is great and as with all the Harry Potter movies, it is great for the whole family, but it may leave you scratching your heads, especially when then next one comes along. My children and I were very disappointed in the content of the movie- the quality of the movie is wonderful. I really do advise reading the book to get all the vitals. I recommend this DVD with the reservations that you need to read the book.

I've been a fan of Harry Potter since the first book. I've enjoyed watching the characters grow up in both the books and the movies. I absolutely love the movies - I think they did a great job on all of them. By far, my favorite is the Prisoner of Azkaban.
I think the mistake a lot of book-readers make is that they don't allow the movies to stand on their own and that's where most of the negative reviews stem from. You HAVE to treat the films and books separate or the films are doomed to fail. As the stories have progressed they've gotten more in depth and the books longer and more has to be trimmed when it comes to film them. The most that any film maker can do is to try and capture the essence of the final four books and so far they've done that.
Half-Blood Prince is a very good addition to the series but don't be fooled here, you're not going to get very much action at all. It's pace is that of a set-up film and that's exactly what the story was designed to do - setup for Deathly Hallows. The movie is dark, which I enjoyed a lot. You get the sense that things outside of Hogwarts are falling apart and it's confirmed midway through the film when the Order meets at the Burrow. The music is spot-on and the acting is mostly great. The only criticism would be Bonnie Wright. She CAN act, I just don't feel that she was directed all that well. The gem in the movie is Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy). It was great to see the inner turmoil that I had anticipated.
I have the Blu-Ray copy and it looks as good as any other Blu-Ray copy that I have. The audio is very good as well.
