Absolutely. The Sony CDP-CE500 CD Changer operating instructions indicate on page 16 that this unit offers random or shuffle play across all CD or MP3 CD discs (All Discs Shuffle) , one specific disc (1 Disc Shuffle), and on a connected USB device (USB Memory Shuffle). Good Luck.

You can’t connect any pair of speakers to the Sony CD changer. The Sony CD changer operating instructions do not indicate that this unit offers speaker terminals. Sorry. The operating instructions indicate on page 9 that this unit must be connected to an rca style line level input or digital optical input of an amplifier. The Sony CD Changer can be connected to any A/V receiver or shelf stereo system that Best Buy sells. You can also purchase any shelf stereo system from Best Buy if you are looking for a CD player/speaker combination in one complete package. In addition, if you are looking for a CD player with speakers built into one unit, then you can consider purchasing a boombox from Best Buy as well. Typically, a boombox features a CD player, FM/AM tuner, cassette player/recorder, and 2 full range speakers in one unit that can operate on batteries or AC power. The Sony CFD-S350SILVER boombox or Sony CFD-G700CP boombox would be a great choice for this application. Good Luck.
The CDPCE500 is a HiFi component and so does not have a built in amplifier or speakers. There is an analog and digital output to connect the unit to a Receiver.

We are looking at purchasing this unit, but would like to know if with the shuffle feature: will it randomly select a disc and randomly select a selection from that disc then at the end of the song randomly select a different disc and song. Listening to an entire disc gets to be a bit much at times. Thanks
Hi Trucker, There are 3 modes in the SHUFFLE feature. 1. Plays all tracks/files on all discs in random order (ALL DISCS SHUFFLE). 2. Plays all tracks/files on the current disc in random order (1 DISC SHUFFLE). 3. Plays all files in the current folder in random order ( SHUFFLE). Thanks. >Joffrey
No. The Sony CDP-CE500 CD Changer does not feature a line input jack to connect to your iPod. You can’t record from an external source component to this unit’s USB port. Sorry. This unit’s front panel USB port can only be used to copy music from a CD to a compatible USB media device or compatible USB flash drive in the MP3 file format. Please note that the Sony CD Changer does not record to CD, and it does not feature any audio input jacks that allow you to connect an audio component that functions as a recording source. However, if you do own a portable MP3 player with recording capabilities, then you can connect the MP3 recorder’s line input jack to the line output jack on the Sony Changer. Next, begin playback of the Sony CD Changer. Lastly, activate the record function on your portable MP3 recorder to copy music from the Sony CD Changer to your recorder in the MP3 format. Good Luck.
The USB ports are intended to be used for external flash storage, not an iPod. An iPod requires MP3's to be logged into iTunes and formatted before an iPod could play the file. You would need to transfer the file on to a flash drive, move that to your computer, then copy the file into iTunes.
Yes. You can purchase any component CD player from Best Buy to meet your needs, including the Sony CDP-CE500 CD Changer. You didn’t list the model number of your Technics receiver, but as long as your receiver features an AUX input with RCA type connectors, then any CD player will be compatible with it. My research indicates that Technics receiver model # SA-203, sold in the 1980’s, features an AUX input that would be compatible with a CD player. If this is not your model, it would still offer similar inputs for receivers made during that period of time. With that in mind, I would recommend Sony CD players CDP-CE375 |SKU:4144544 or Sony CDP-CE500 |SKU:1676121 for this type of application. The audio patch cable needed to make the connection between the CD player and your receiver is included with the Sony CD Changer. Good Luck.
