Our phone has a button that reads, "Play/Stop." Pressing that button causes the message recorded on the phone's answering machine to play.
We experienced problems when setting up the answering machine part of the phone. I had set the # of rings before the answering machine picks up to 6. I called from my cell phone & left a message on the house phone, but was unable to play it. It turns out the answering service through Verizon picks up after fewer than 6 rings, and puts the message in their system, which requires a dial in to obtain messages from Verizon. By changing the house phone's # of rings to 4, before messages go to the phone's answering machine, the problem was solved.
Best wishes with your phone. We love ours!
