When charging in a vehicle, the battery indicator should fill up gradually. If you're charging your device by connecting it to your computer's USB, it's actually charging while in mass storage mode (or MTP mode), which is a data-transfer mode. The icon that displays when connected to a computer is an indicator of that data transfer mode, not charging. Charging on your computer takes quite a bit longer (approx. 8 hours from a dead battery) compared to charging in your vehicle (approx. 3-4 hours from a dead battery). -JPK
You just plug into the lighter port if you have one. You may have to twist it until the green light comes on. A lot of the newer cars' do not have lighters or ash trays. My car is older but if your car is newer, then I can't help there. Just be glad you have a new car. Good luck.
If you're unsure how to set up your Garming Nuvi 52LM, step-by-step instructions (including a pictoral guide) can be found on Garmin's official support website:
Remember that we also offer GPS setup and installation services if you'd prefer not to setup/configure the devices yourself. For full details and pricing information, make sure to speak with an auto tech at your local Best Buy store.
Garmin Co states that Garmin Nuvi 52 LM has maps of 49 states preloaded but there are 50 states , so which one is excluded?.Last 2 territories which became states -Alaska and Hawaii have maps preloaded
Is there any Garmin model that will give me multiple route options and let me pick which one i want to take? I travel into NYC alot and I want to be able to select which tunnel/bridge i take going in.
Yes, they all will. Once you enter destination and select 'go' simply GO BACK one screen to main view and in the lower left corner is an icon 'DETOUR' that changes the route. Do that till you find the one you like. Hope this helps.
I like the traffic as well as inclusion of Canada in the 2555, but am concerned that the older version might be discontinued and no longer updated (or any other negatives I might not be aware of). The newer one has less features. Can anyone mention possible considerations before purchasing?
Older versions of our devices can accept updates. If you would like a device will more features, and traffic updates then the 2555LMT is the way to go. It will come with free lifetime traffic and map updates.
The voice on the Garmin Nuvi 52LM is just fine. I can hear it and that is what is most important - that you don't have to keep your eye on the screen to get where you are going - it tells you in plenty of time when you have to make a lane change or change directions.
The automotive devices were built to sustain the ambient sounds of the road while driving. We have not had any customer complaints about the volume. ~JH
I prefer not to be distracted by the map on the screen. Can the charger be plugged into the GPS and then the GPS turned upside-down? Or does the charger plug into the holder....and the GPS then plugged into the holder?
The car charger on the nuvi 52LM will plug directly into the back of the nuvi. The nuvi can be turned upside down, however for proper satellite reception we recommend having it mounted to the windshield. Another idea would be turning the screen brightness down all the way after setting your destination (which can be done through the settings menu).
Yes. In map view, touch the auto and a screen pops up with My location: Latitude, Longitude, Elevation Nearest Address: xxx street name, city name Nearest Intersection: xxx road & xxx street
