if i'm listening to music, and want to turn screen black while i listen? like on a tablet or phone, you can turn off the screen and let the music still play.
You can set the display to turn off after any interval one minute or greater just as on any Windows 8 laptop. Music will continue to play with the screen off unless you have also set the option in the power plan to allow the device to sleep while playing media.
Thank you for your interest in the XPS 12 Ultrabook. As it turns out, there is not a stand-by like button that instantly turns off the screen while keeping the programs running (music playback for example). In tablet mode, pressing the power button puts the XPS 12 is standby mode, so you can’t really wake it up instantaneously.
Dell probably has a 500 Gb version however the one I got ifrom BB is 128 GB The difference here is that it is a solid state drive (SSD) (think of it like a thumb/flash drive) and doesn't have the moving parts, spinning head, etc so they say it helps with battery life etc. I'm quite pleased with mine.
There is the 2012 and the 2013 version. The 2013 version uses the new "Haswell" version of the CPU and is available with SSDs up to 500GB. The 2012 version is available with 128GB or 256GB SSDs.
Thank you for your interest in the XPS 12 Ultrabook! The XPS 12 currently ships with either a 128GB or 256GB SSD storage capacity. I do not know which windows website says that it has a 500GB drive but I know that this particular XPS 12 build comes with a 128GB SSD.
It has an mini display output which us flexible in that, with an adapter, you can connect it to a VGA/dvi/hdmi device quite easily, including a projector
Thank you for your interest in the XPS 12 Convertible Ultrabook! As it turns out, the base of the laptop can also serve as a built-in adjustable stand for the screen. Hence, moving the screen out of its standard “laptop” position immediately disables the keyboard and trackpad, preventing accidental input.
Yes. It does have an HDMI port (it's a mini-port), but HDMI nonetheless. Its on the right side of the XPS b/t the power port and the usb ports. Also, what I bought was the net gear push2TV adapter, which basically pushes what I'm seeing on my laptop to my HDTV. It does this wirelessly using INTELWIDI, which comes preinstalled on the XPS. The netgear thing-amajiggy is this tiny black box that you connect to the back of your tv with an HDMI cable. Then you pair with device through your XPS screen. A little tricky at first, but cool.
Yes, you are able to turn off the backlighting on this Dell XPS Ultrabook. It won't make a very large difference in the battery life, but it will give an extra few minutes depending on the power setting.
