Most HP stuff is proprietary, which is why I started building my own. You would think a hard drive would be interchangeable, and I did use a Seagate on my last HP with no problems, but I just done know. Contact HP support to make sure.
Absolutely it will work. The format of a drive is what determines the compatibility. Since Windows is formatted as NTFS, the drive will be compatible. As long as you have a bay to connect it into, you can use the drive.
Probably, but it's very hard to say without being able to see your computer. If you're replacing your stock drive, absolutely this is near identical in specs to the 1tb drive that should have come with your PC, but if you're adding on extra storage you would need to check inside your pc to see if there's a spare SATA input on your motherboard, a spare 3.5" bay inside to store it (or a 5.5" drive and you can get a mounting bracket) and finally a spare SATA power plug (most desktop pc's have multiple spares in line on a ribbon connected to the stock drive(s)).
Not sure, but it doesn't matter. This drive is for any SATA desktop that holds a 3.5" internal hard drive. It can be formatted into any format, DOS, Linux, Unix, Windows, etc. Not MAC, they use a "special" drive format & drive.
You will probably need an adapter to fit the hard drive because the connection ends are different if you have an old computer, but functionality should be OK.
Not too certain as your system sounds as it uses PATA. The Seagate Barracuda 1TB is SATA. Your computer appears to be 8 years old or better. Take your computer system information ( Manufacturer/ Model ) to Best Buy Geek Squad or ask a reputable local PC shop for free advise. They should not charge a fee for asking a simple question. All places can Browse the Internet to find what is compliant to your system. Also I would say your current computer cannot use any Harddrive larger than 250GB by what you have given.
This drive is built to SATA specifications. You'll need to make sure you have an available SATA port. We also recommend contacting Compaq/HP to verify that there are no issues on the computer-side of installing this size of drive.
No, this won't work with a desktop. There's not enough power with this version. Best Buy online has one for a desktop that has an actual case to put the hard drive in so there is enough power to make the transfer. I don't know how having a case gives it more power, but I have one on order now.
This is compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 2000 Pro or 7; Mac: G5 or later processor; Mac OS X 10.2 or later; Linux; Serial ATA interface connector on motherboard of add-in Serial ATA card.
This is an EXTERNAL hard drive... it won'r REPLACE anything! It's additional storage that plugs into the USB port and has its own power supply. It will work on ANY computer that has a USB 2 or 3 receptacle on it. There are exceptions though... older systems might have to have you re-format it into smaller partitions than one big 4 TB one! But with Windows 7 and up there should be no problems... just plug and play!
