The Galaxy S3 has a 3.5 mm connection on it. This is not needed for your phone. The plug would be too small for the connection on your phone.

The 2.5mm end is the male. You plug the 2.5mm male end into your phone and connect a standard set of headphone to the 3.5mm female end.
