I assume your talking a 5 disk player or an actual stereo component, not a portable disk player, Right?
You have a set of RCA out jacks on the CD player if its an actual component. On a portable there is only headphone jacks (one volume for headphones, some units have 2, the second jack would be audio out to whatever you wanna play it through.)
Your reciever has 4 inputs and 2 outputs. CD, Aux1, Aux2, and Record, Your outputs from the receiver are from Aux1 and Aux2. If you hooked to the output and not the input you may be receiving this problem due to connections not in the right inputs.
1:Double check your CD Player isnt a burner. if it is you need to unplug all of it and not use the CD input, but use an Aux input. If this is the case you will run your OUTPUT from the CD player to the Input of AUX1 on your reciever. The OUTPUT Aux1 of the receiver will connect to the INPUT of the CD Burner.
2:Standard CD/5Disk Changer Component - Run the OUTPUT from the CD player to the INPUT marked "CD" on the reciever
3.Portable Disk Player - Will use a headphone stereo cable that has 2 RCA jacks on the end. If your player is eqiupped with 2 jacks, use the one marked Line Out, If only one jack use it. Turn volume down on player, you will use your FM dial to match the sound level of the player so it is not so loud it sounds distorted. Run this line straight to the "CD" input.
The reciever is not the problem, aside from a hookup issue you may have a bad cd player. I would follow the hookup proceedures i just went through for whatever is necassary for your device. If problem is persisting check the CD player with another unit to verify it is working correctly.
