I wasn't really sure about this game at first. It was a good departure from the action-survival-horror setting of Doom 3, which I felt was pretty darn close to being a first-person version of Dead Space. I could definitely see some of the influences it had on the DS development team. It is worth noting that Dead Space is my favorite game of all time, or at least for now. So, back to this new Doom, when I get it up and going it feels good, looks okay, but something is off - the entire drive of the game seemed to be focused more towards speed and momentum of murder, rather than the atmosphere and scares that wait around the corner. Where Doom 3 had me planning my next move and eagerly waiting for a demon pop out and scare the heavens out of me, this new doom has me stomping mud-holes in butts and stalking down demons like a hound on the hunt. This restructuring of the pacing threw me off, but I stuck with it and odin-almighty am I glad I did. This game is just pure fun, and overly addicting at times. Each level is a descent closer to hades and the further you get, the more mud-holes you'll be stomping - that's assuming you have the grit and strategy it takes to keep going. The game really doesn't like it when you are just standing around in battle and you will die for it. Fortunately, the levels provide you with some pretty good battle grounds, allowing you to move around and keep the kills rolling in without much issue (provided you have your game on.) I highly recommend this to fans of the old and new - this game is just pure fun.
Francis Ford Coppola's Masterpiece features Marlon Brando in his Oscar-winning role as the patriarch of the Corleone family. Director Coppola paints a chilling portrait of the Sicilian clan's rise and near fall from power in America, masterfully balancing the story between the Corleone's family life and the ugly crime business in which they are engaged. Based on Mario Puzo's best-selling novel and featuring career-making performances by Al Pacino, James Caan and Robert Duvall, this searing and brilliant film garnered ten Academy Award nominations, and won three including Best Picture of 1972.

The Godfather is one of the greatest films ever made, period. That opinion is that of almost every individual that has experienced the film itself. This is an opinion I do no wholly agree with, as I see The Godfather as 1/3 of the story. The Godfather, to me, is films 1-3 operating as one whole. Being only 30 years old, I never experience the Godfather films as they we originally fed to movie-goers. My experience is watching the entire trilogy, back to back, as a whole and I have a hard time seeing these films working as well as standalone films. Most fans of the Godfather films feel that the third entry is the least compelling. This is another notion I disagree with. The third film is the perfect third act for a Shakespearian type tragedy, more-so like that of Macbeth in my opinion. This sentiment carries over to the first film as well, I don't see the first film being a better film than third. The Godfather is sum of all it's parts and must be seen as a whole to be wholly appreciated. I know many will disagree with a lot of what I have stated, but to each their own, and my Godfather experience is the epic that is the sage, the trilogy, and they should be seen as so.

Ghost in the Shell is by far one of my favorite anime films, and one of the best of all time as well - though Akira is much better in my opinion. Though this is an animated film, this is definitely a film for adults. The themes explored are extremely complex and the animation compliments the story better than most of this genre. The steelbook version only comes with the original BD of Ghost in the Shell, not 2.0, which is fine with me, as I wasn't a big fan of the cgi enhancements made in the 2.0 version - and being a steelbook collector, I simply couldn't resist.

Triple 9 is latest film by auteur Aussie filmmaker Johnathan Hillcoat, who worked with singer/song-writer Nick Cave to bring us films like The Proposition and Lawless, and even directed the beautiful screen adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Anyone familiar with Hillcoat's works will instantly feel at home with this movie, while at the same time noticing his move into more ambitious territory. This is where the movie falls flat for most, as this is also Hillcoat's most "Hollywood" film, thus there is some slightly generic shots or moments that make you think "this could've been done better" or "this doesn't really need to be here". Some of these things I attribute to the writing. I think Hillcoat and Cave are a wonderful writer/director duo and work best together. As far as the story goes, we find a group of bank -robbers, composed of cops and criminals, at the center of a crime ring lead by the Jewish Mafia. The film, like most heist films, opens with a bang as we see the group pulling a score, only to find out that the score was just a small part of a bigger operation. Even worse is the group is beginning to unravel from the very moment the job is done and the lines of trust that tied them together are broken. Now they are faced with a bigger challenge, a bigger heist, perhaps an impossible heist, so the plan is to set up a code 9-9-9, which means an officer is down, now they just need to find the right officer to bring down. The story is lead by an all-star cast of characters, some of my favorite in Hollywood right now. Each of them plays their role to the bone and puts it all out there to be seen. Triple 9 is a great heist film, especially for those that are a fan of the directors other works and for those that need to fill the void left missing by Michael Mann's lack of giving us more of what he does best - heists and criminals!

These films are long revered in the world of cinema, even more so among the fans of the New Hollywood crew that was born in the late 60's, so I feel like I shouldn't really waste too much time picking these films apart. However, for those of you who have not seen any of the Indiana Jones films, I will give a brief overview of what to expect. Most of it can be summed up in a single word, and that is: ADVENTURE. These films are full of it. Taking inspiration from the pulp novels and comic books of the early to mid 1900s - mainly the latter half. Indie, or Indiana Jones, is a wonderful and charismatic character, a great deal due to the fantastic job done by Harrison role as the lead role. Joining his side is a great cast of characters through each film - including a new leading lady with each entry (much like the ladies of James Bond). My favorite being Short-Round from the second film. The only weak entry being the latest, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, simply because it takes a rather strange and unimaginative turn towards the end. A lot of Indie fans find this film to be an insult to the original trilogy, but I wouldn't go as far - I just think that the movie was a little too ambitious for what an Indiana Jones film represents and the fans knew that something wasn't right, only to be proven correct at the end. And it came at a time when Hollywood and its A-class filmmakers were at a crossroad of confusion towards what the fans want to see and what the filmmakers want to do. Kind of like the Star Wars Ep1-3 mess, only not as bad. It still has Spielberg written all over it and there are some really fun parts in the movie, so I wouldn't say it hurts the collection any. If anything, the original trilogy is so good, that 4th film is just a bonus that you will either like, or you wont. Younger audiences will find a great parallel between Indiana Jones and Nathan Drake from the video-game series Uncharted, as these two guys are practically the same character and the stories they move through are very similar as well. If it weren't for Indiana Jones, we wouldn't have characters like Nathan Drake. These films sit nicely next to the original Star Wars trilogy and the Back to the Future trilogy. Highly recommended for people of all ages!

I bought this for my son, who was a fan of the first game, and he wasn't the least bit amused. No matter how many times he tried to go back and play it, it just wasn't his cup of tea. According to him, the gameplay changes are what hampered the game most. They took a simple indie-type arcade game and tried to make more out of it and turn it into a big budgeted game. I myself am not a fan of these types of games, as they feel very lazy to me. Very reminiscent of an iPhone game ported to consoles, then it seems they tried to turn the sequel into an entirely different style of game. 2 stars on the behalf of my son and I.

There isn't much to say when it comes to burnable CD's, but these particular blanks are rather rad, as the top of the CD has a layer that looks and feels just like a vinyl record. So I do have to give them some credit for that. Too bad they don't make my music sound like vinyl....

GTA5 is not only a step up from previous releases, but also a great culmination of the previous games. GTA5 is flat out spectacular in every aspect, drawing inspiration for the story and setting from the very best of heist films - most notably those of Michael Mann. There aspects of Heat, Thief and of course Miami Vice. If there's one man whose created some of the finest coastal crime films it is indeed Michael Mann. So, its comes as no surprise when one of the three main characters is named Michael. Somehow, with all the technology and current day setting, this game still glows with 80s flavor. As far as gameplay goes, you play (and can switch at almost any time) as three main characters, these characters all play a part in the story and in the elements of gameplay - each character has their own traits and specialties that they bring to the table when its time to pull a score. Without giving too much away about the game as whole, all I can say is PLAY THIS GAME! There is absolute freedom to roam and commit acts of chaos, just as you can follow the story and still experience the same great amount of chaos. This is a game for casual and hardcore gamers, though casual gamers may find the game to be somewhat long, but I will go ahead say that's to their own fault, as they're probably mindless screwing around - which to me is a testament to the games fun, though I've seen people wear themselves out playing around and fault the game for not feeding them more story.
This multidisc release brings together the hugely successful Hong Kong martial arts action series Ip Man, directed by Wilson Yip and based off the life of Yip Man, a martial arts master and tutor of Bruce Lee. Donnie Yen stars as the titular character in all three films, which were released in 2008, 2010, and 2015 respectively.

I picked up the steelbook version of the trilogy and couldn't give this release more credit. For some this might be a double-dip for the first two films, but the steelbook packaging puts the IP Man films that truly matter under one roof. The cover art could be cooler though, but that's just me. The films themselves are great martial-arts films, especially for the modern day viewer. Wilson Yip directs all three of the movies and does so with wonderful grace, mixing high-octane action and historical drama without missing a beat. With most trilogies (not counting the two IP Man spin-off films) the first film is usually the strongest, with the following movies slowly declining in value, that is not the case here. The only time I felt as if things had dipped in quality or control, it mostly a gripe that was personal and is probably over-looked by most. The presence of Mike Tyson in the third film being one of them. I felt he was somewhat misplaced and the character could've been handled by a better actor (Michael Jai White), but I can see how stacking Yen up against one of America's finest boxers could appeal to fans. The movie as a whole was not ruined for me and holds up quite well with the previous two entries. I couldn't recommended IP Man more, especially if you're a fan of old-school, or historical based kung fu. The story is great and the action wonderfully blended in, with plenty of spectacular moments to bedazzle the eyes. The table-top fight scene between Sammo Hung and Donnie Yen in the second film being one of the coolest scenes I've seen in a long time, something that is definitely unique - kung fu action fiends will love this one.

This is my least favorite of the pop-art steelbook series - just in design, not the in quality of the film. The film is excellent in my opinion. A sleeper hit born from the ashes of the Halo film. Producer Peter Jackson was so impressed with the director, Neil Blomkamp, and his original story (District 9) that he decided to carry the production of the failed Halo film over to District 9. And with that bit of Hollywood drama, a great sci-fi film was born, as well as a future sci-fi auteur, in director Blomkamp. Unfortunately, his following films - Elysium and Chappie - while great looking films, show a flaw in director/writer Blompkamp - and that is his ability to tell a tale as intriguing as District 9 (written over the span of almost 6 years) isn't up to par for the fast paced world of producer-driven films in Hollywood. I think Blomkamp would do wonders depicting others screenplays (like Zack Snyder), or perhaps a great auteur filmmaker if he were to take time to perfect his screenplays before moving into production. But for now, District 9 will do as not only Blomkamp's greatest achievement, but a wonderful film that stands out on its own in the world of science fiction films.
