Slim Footprint – Makes Great Coffee!

The Keurig K-Supreme Coffee Maker is a very nice evolution of the traditional Keurig single cup pod brewer. It is a very attractive unit, slim and elegantly styled in silver and matte black. It introduces several great new features and utilizes an innovative brewing system to extract maximum flavor from K-cups.
Keurig was founded in Boston, Massachusetts in 1992. “Keurig” is Dutch for “elegant and neat” and chosen to describe their new single cup coffee-making process. The founders of the company invented the K-Cup and designed coffee makers which utilized the K-Cup to brew excellent coffee, one cup at a time, first in offices, then expanded to the home market. The secret of the K-Cup’s flavor is specially ground coffee held in a filter within the plastic K-Cup, which is pumped full of nitrogen and sealed with a foil cover to preserve freshness until use. Keurig has sold nearly 100 million K-Cup coffee makers during its existence. Today Keurig is part of a $13 billion public company which also owns Green Mountain Coffee, Dr. Pepper and Snapple.
Here is a summary of the key features:
• Model: Keurig K-Supreme Brewer (# K910)
• Multi-Stream technology to extract more flavor/aroma
• Brew sizes: 6, 8, 10 or 12 ounces
• Compatible with all single serve K-Cup pods
• Removable 66 ounce water reservoir
• Water filtration filter and bracket (removable)
• Smart Start: Auto power-on when K-Cup is inserted
• Auto power-off 5 minutes after brewing
• Controls: Power, Brew Strength, Iced Coffee, Cup size (6, 8, 10, 12 ounces), Brew Start

• Iced coffee mode – Brews 6 ounces at lower temperature optimized for iced coffee
• Descaling notice (light) every 250 brews
• Low water level warning light
• Cup tray removable to accommodate travel mugs
• Compatible with My K-Cup reusable coffee filter (not included)
• Removable parts are hand-wash only (not dishwasher-safe)
• Color: Black and silver
• Includes quick start guide. Full owner’s manual available at Keurig.com
• Cord length: 30 inches
• 1520 watt heating unit
• Dimensions with side water reservoir: 12.2 inch height, 11.4 inch depth, 7.9 inch width
Dimensions with rear water reservoir: 12.2 inch height, 14.6 inch depth, 4.8 inch width
• Weight: 5.9 pounds
• One year warranty on parts and labor
I have used the classic Keurig B70 Platinum as my primary coffee maker for the past twelve years and it has produced over 8,000 cups of great coffee for me during that time. The new K-Supreme has some really big shoes to fill in replacing that reliable workhorse.
When you unbox the Keurig K-Supreme you should be very impressed by the elegant design and the quality of construction. It is a beautiful combination of matte black and silver surfaces, accented by a crystal clear water reservoir. All controls are on the top, above the K-Cup basket. The cup holder/drip tray slides out to allow you to fill tall travel cups.
One dominant impression is how slim this new brewer is, barely wider than a coffee cup. The water reservoir is located on the left side normally, but by just releasing a locking tab the water reservoir can be easily relocated to the rear of the unit. This makes the already slim coffee maker even more svelte – just 4.8 inches wide! And it is really not much deeper, just 14.6 inches compared to 11.4 inches deep with the reservoir on the side. If you have limited counter space this is a wonderful feature and only this Keurig model has it.
If you have an older Keurig you are used to bringing water to the coffee brewer for refilling because lifting off and replacing the old style water reservoir is a bit awkward. The new K-Supreme has ended that problem – the 66-ounce water reservoir has a nice handle and is well-balanced which facilitates easy removal and refilling. This also encourages more frequent cleaning of the water reservoir.
One nice improvement on the K-Supreme compared to my older Keurig is that you no longer have to reach behind the machine to turn it on. Power is activated when you swing up the top to insert the K-Cup. Also, you do not have to wait while the brewer heats the water (which the older machines require.) Just insert the K-Cup, lower the top, select the cup size, press the “K” brew start button and the brewing process starts. I measured the brewing time for a 12 ounce cup from my old and new Keurigs. Starting from cold, the B70 required one minute to heat the water before it would allow brewing to start, then took 50 more seconds to actually brew the coffee. The K-Supreme started immediately and completed a 12 ounce cup of coffee in one minute and 35 seconds. I should note that a second cup of coffee from the older B70 machine required only one minute since the water had already been heated. So if you are making one cup of coffee the new K-Supreme is quicker, but two cups are completed a bit faster using the older machine.
The biggest change in the K-Supreme brewer is the new Multi-Stream technology. Studies have shown that the key to extracting maximum flavor and strength from coffee grounds is a combination of dwell-time (how long the water is in contact with the coffee), temperature (high but not too hot) and turbulence (how thoroughly the water mixes with the coffee). All prior Keurig brewers utilized a single needle to inject water into the K-Cup. The new Multi-Stream system uses five needles to inject water into the K-Cup simultaneously. This increases turbulence and extracts more flavor. In addition to this change, the K-Supreme has a “Strong” option. This seems to add dwell time to the brewing process.
So how well does it work? Just great! I compared Starbucks Pike Place coffee prepared on the new K-Supreme to that prepared on my trusty B70 Platinum. The new brewer produced a richer 12 ounce cup of coffee and the strong option did just that – made it stronger. However, I took the process a step further. I made a 6 ounce cup of coffee using a pod, then removed that pod, rotated it 180 degrees and reinserted that same pod and brewed a second 6 ounces into the cup. The result was even better than a single brew into a 12 ounce cup. Rotating the K-Cup added a second drain point on the bottom of the K-Cup and seemed to add more strength to the brewed coffee. The downside is that this nearly doubles the brewing time.
My B70 has a temperature control and I have it set at 192 degrees (the maximum). The K-Supreme does not have a temperature control. So I measured the temperature of the coffee produced and it was the same for both machines – 180 degrees! I suspect that either the process of brewing the coffee lowers the water temperature a bit or my older machine needs to be decalcified. In any event, the temperature is fine for producing a great cup of coffee.
One other difference between the older Keurig brewer and the new K-Supreme is that the latter is much quieter. It completes the full brewing cycle without all of the hissing, boiling and water-pumping noises of the older machines. This is a nice improvement and might make the process of preparing that first cup of coffee early in the morning a little less stressful!
The K-Supreme also has an “Over Ice” option. This lowers the brewing water temperature to the minimum level required to accomplish the process and fixes the volume at 6 ounces. This is perfect for filling a glass which has ice cubes and the lower temperature will not melt all of the ice.
Other notes: There are two lights on the top, near the control buttons. One signals when the water level is low and the other advises that descaling is recommended. The latter occurs after 250 cups have been brewed. The descaling process is automatic when you press the 8 ounce and 12 ounce buttons simultaneously for three seconds, then press the “K” brew button. To save energy the unit shuts off five minutes after a brewing cycle. Finally, be careful – never put any of the removable parts (water reservoir, drip tray) into a dishwasher – they will not survive! Hand wash only!
There is really only one (minor) negative I can note about this coffee maker. Each time you brew a cup of coffee you have to select the cup size. It does not remain on the last size chosen like my old Keurig. But this is a very small quibble and the fact that it is my only complaint speaks very well about this great device.
The new K-Supreme certainly meets the “elegant and neat” criteria chosen by the company’s founders when they chose the name, “Keurig” and this wonderful and evolutionary coffee maker has fully earned a full five stars and my very strong recommendation.

The Chefman Multifunction Digital Air Fryer is a great choice for any kitchen. This 10.6 quart capacity unit contains a very sophisticated and powerful combination of air fryer, rotisserie, dehydrator and convection oven capabilities.

Today it produces a wide array of counter-top devices including coffee machines, grinders, pressure cookers, sous vide, rice cookers, sandwich makers, toasters, ovens, skillets, griddles, waffle makers food processors, blenders, popcorn makers and air fryers (among others!) Chefman’s motto is “Small Appliances, Big Ideas” and their goal is to “empower ordinary people all over the world to create restaurant quality dishes while enjoying an easy-to-follow and user friendly experience” The Multifunction Digital Air Fryer is a superb fulfillment of that goal.
Here is a summary of the key features of this terrific appliance:

• 120v, cord length: 44 inches

This is one of Chefman’s many (14 at last count) air fryers and I think it is the best, providing a great combination of size (not too large, not too small), versatility (bake, air fry, dehydrate) easy intuitive controls and modest price. It is beautifully designed and the quality of construction is very evident. It features a bright LCD display with touch controls, an easy-to-clean stainless interior, insulated exterior and a nice set of trays, cooking drum and rotisserie spit.
I have previously resisted adding this type of appliance to my large array of culinary tools. Not every kitchen needs an air fryer, I thought. So it was with great skepticism, but then even greater curiosity, that made me want to try Chefman Multifunction Air Fryer. It seemed to offer so many nice possibilities.
Spending more time at home during the pandemic gave me the incentive to make my time in the kitchen easier and more productive. The idea of frying with 98% less oil made me feel virtuous and a more healthy eater. The surprise to me was finding out food from the Chefman tasted just as good, if not better than the same food cooked in boiling oil. This is a small but mighty approach to low fat cooking I am now excited to use and explore new possibilities every day. And, during the 90+ degree weather we were experiencing in the week I first tried this unit, the fact that it did not heat up the entire house like one of my full-size ovens is a real plus.
To start, I had some worries about the door of the Chefman as it felt like I was going to tip the whole oven forward when I pulled the door open since it has a strong latch. But it was easy to figure out to pull the handle with a thumb on the plastic above and the door would unlatch easily. I like the bright light illuminating the oven cavity so you can check on the cooking progress without opening the door. The sides of the oven remain relatively cool during operation thanks to good insulation. The warm exhaust air is directed to the rear of the unit, so leave some space behind it. The unit is compact, does not take up much valuable counter space and is light enough to easily lift and store in a cabinet or closet. The three stainless mesh shelves are a great size for placing a variety of foods or herbs to be processed. The trays and other accessories which contact food are dishwasher safe. Very convenient and came out of dishwasher gleaming. The stainless interior wiped clean with little effort. And the rotating drum fits inside the unit, along with the shelves for easy storage.
This right-sized air fryer oven comes with so many excellent features which single-use air fryers lack. The touch controls and presets look great and function even better. The powerful infrared heating element/fan combination cooks all items evenly yet it is relatively quiet. The three stainless mesh shelves fit an abundance of food. The unique rotating barrel is great for French fries and probably shrimp. And the rotisserie feature works fabulously for a small 3 ½ lb chicken. The fetch tool makes extracting the drum or rotisserie spit easy and safe. I do recommend keeping a basting brush handy to sweep out crumbs when preparing battered items.
Primary operating notes? Most items were crispy and brown outside. Not greasy. It is certainly safer than pan frying – no moving food into and out of hot oil. No splatters to mess up my counters and walls.
Preparing a whole dinner for 3-4 in one step is possible in this efficient and compact unit. (See photos) I was able to prepare 2 small shish-ke-babs, chicken tenders, pork cutlets and roast small potatoes and garlic bulbs all in one 20 minute air fry cooking cycle. The rotating barrel for French fries – a great little innovation – eliminates any need to stir or reposition foods for even cooking. You can cook a pound of fries in the barrel and they come out like French bistro pomme frites. The root vegetable fries cooked in the barrel were outstanding and they needed only a little spray of olive oil to result in a hot, crispy outside, steamy inside, side dish low in fat but high in nutrition. Thank you, Chefman!
I had some extra herbs in the fridge vegetable drawer. Well, what can I do with these in the air fryer? The dehydrate setting and shelves allowed me to easily preserve and dry the dill, parsley and other herbs for later use. Big plus for versatility!
I look forward to trying crescent roll apple cider donut holes without a greasy mess of oil frying. I plan to use the air fryer to make small batches of appetizers whenever the mood strikes. As I get more familiar with handling the pre-set temps and the many recipes that could be adapted for the small oven use I am more excited than ever to own this appliance. You can also register for the free Club Chefman to access a plethora of air fryer and other recipes to try.
Do I have any complaints or criticisms? No. Just one woke suggestion, from my “better half” who thinks the product should be called ChefWoman not ChefMan in tribute to the primary food technician in most homes. (I like to think of the man part of the name as meaning human, not gender specific.)
Final verdict: The Chefman 10 liter Multifunctional Air Fryer is a well-made, modestly-priced but very intelligent appliance I would enthusiastically recommend to any level of cook. It would be terrific for a dorm room or a nice addition to a fully equipped kitchen where small batch, healthy cooking is of prime importance to the ChefPerson.

Superb Sound/Ultra Noise-Canceling/Premium Quality
on August 28, 2020
Posted by: JimC
from Chicago, IL
The new Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones are a clear improvement over Sony’s already excellent line of Bluetooth headphones. They are very comfortable and provide superb listening experience at home, traveling or in a noisy office. They incorporate extremely effective noise suppression, have easy-to-operate controls and a very long battery life. Their unmatched quality is evident in every feature.
Sony is one of the largest consumer electronic companies in the world. It began in 1946 as an electronics shop but soon began producing its own products, starting with tape recorders and transistor radios in the mid-1950s. Sony built a reputation for quality and introduced many innovations in portable audio, including the Walkman in 1979, the CD disc in 1983, flash memory for audio and video in 1998 and the Blu-ray HD disc in 2000. Its consumer audio products including stereo component systems, speakers and headphones are very well-regarded for quality and features.
Here are the key features:
• Sony WH-1000XM4 noise-canceling over-the-ear Bluetooth headphones
• Ergonomic, fully adjustable over-ear, closed dynamic headphone
• 40 mm dome driver for maximum bass and very accurate wide frequency response
• Advanced noise-canceling/suppression technology uses two microphones on each earphone to analyze and block external noises, may be switched on or off and may be optimized for wearing conditions and atmospheric pressure
• Artificial Intelligence and Digital Sound Enhancement Engine technology to accurately upscale compressed music, especially high-pitched sounds normally lost
• Monitor function allows ambient sound to be easily heard while wearing headphones, may be switched on or off; Speak-to-Chat provides automatic pause and resume without removing earphone
• Voice Assist function compatible with Siri, Alexa, Google Assistant
• Bluetooth 5.0, reception range up to 30 feet, NFC pairing connection option, supports SBC, AAC and LDAC codecs; simultaneous connection to two devices
• Sony Headphones Connect app provides extensive sound customization and 3D Reality Audio
• HD Voice and built-in microphone for making and receiving phone calls with high quality sound
• Touch control on side of right earphone to raise/lower volume, next/previous track selection
• Power, Bluetooth pairing, Monitor and Noise Cancel buttons on left earphone
• Rechargeable 3.7v internal lithium ion power source: 10 minute quick charge gives 5 hours of play time, 3 hours to fully charge with included 8” USB-C connection cable (recharge at 5.0v)
• Headphones will operate 30+ hours (38+ hours with noise reduction off) continuously from a full charge, 9 day standby time, customizable auto-off timer
• Can also operate without using any power by connecting an included 4.1 foot 3.5 mm stereo cable to left earphone
• 3.5 mm (headphone) male-to-male 50” connection cable included
• Airplane in-flight audio connector included
• 4 – 40,000 Hz audio frequency range, less than 1% THD distortion
• Sony Headphone Connect app provides graphic equalizer and presets
• Easy to follow illustrated quick set-up guide
• Foldable design for compact storage
• Size: 5.5 inches by 6.6 inches by 3.5 inches
• Weight: 9 ounces
• Hard case with outside and inside pockets for accessories included
• One year warranty on parts and labor
Included in the slip-cover box are full instructions/set-up guide and a very nice, compact hard case which contains the headphones, a short USB-C charging cable, a 50 inch long 3.5 mm direct-connect wire cable and airplane audio adapter. The quick set-up guide is comprehensive with step-by-step instructions for using the headphones, a trouble-shooting checklist, technical specifications and detailed explanations for using each feature.
The headphones have a non-reflective black finish and very attractive copper-colored lettering and highlights, substantial bass-producing drivers and super-soft memory-foam cushions on each headphone for superb comfort and noise isolation. They fold flat to enable compact storage and to easily fit into a purse, drawers, etc. The Sony WH-1000XM4 has a look of quiet quality and business elegance without flashy excess.
The headphones use USB-C technology and are quick-charging. In just 10 minutes you have 5 hours of play time. Full charge is accomplished in three hours. The stated music playing time of thirty hours seems conservative since I found the headphones would operate for nearly forty-five hours before fading out. The customizable auto-off feature aids this very long battery life.
An audio prompt indicates when the power is on or off and a second press of the power button gives a voice guidance of the remaining power level. Pair the earphones with your phone or other source via Bluetooth or NFC. The connection remained very solid throughout my home, up to nearly 50 feet.
The headphones are fully adjustable and the very soft pads completely and comfortably enclose even the largest ears. The Sony WH-1000XM4 are perhaps the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. They are light (9 ounces) and have plenty of adjustment range to enable a perfect fit. You can wear them for many hours in perfect comfort and your ears will never complain.
Even without the noise-canceling function most external sounds are blocked. Pressing the Custom (automatic noise canceling) button turns on that feature and sets the level of noise reduction and there is an audio announcement that it is active (or that it has been turned off.) The ANC technology is very sophisticated, utilizing two microphones on each earphone to analyze external sounds and cancel it. You can even customize the noise cancellation for wearing conditions and atmospheric pressure. My favorite test is to turn on both my shower and bathroom sink faucet and the noise (which would normally be very loud) was just a faint hiss which I could easily ignore while listening to the music. Even without music playing the noise canceling feature was extremely effective. You can also adjust the degree of noise cancellation using the Headphone Connect app. A perfect companion for isolating you with just your music in public transit and airplanes!
But you buy headphones primarily to provide sound, not to eliminate it. Here you will find your investment well-rewarded! The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones utilize Sony’s DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) and Artificial Intelligence technology to accurately expand digital music, especially higher-frequencies which are often chopped out in the compression process. Bass and mid-range sounds are very well reproduced. You can modify the sound contour/response by utilizing the Sony Headphones Connect app which features a full equalizer, a number of surround sound presets and sound positioning controls. For those who like heavy bass these are an ideal choice. If you want to cut back the bass the equalizer on the app will do that very effectively. I played every range of music, from classical, blues, hard rock, jazz and a full range of vocals (opera through folk ballads) and these fine headphones never disappointed me. The sound quality is just beautiful.
I compared the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones to another set from Sony which are priced about 25% lower and a super-premium set from another audio supplier priced about 25% higher. Compared to the lower-priced Sony headphones the WH-1000XM4 provided more features and better sound which more than justified the price differential. Compared to the higher-priced set I found that the Sony WH-1000XM4 provided noticeably better noise reduction and equal music reproduction. I think that to find a significantly better set of headphones you would have to spend at least 50% more, and even then most users would not really appreciate any difference in sound or features.
Like all good earphones these will respond to various voice commands, allow you to interact with Siri, take calls, etc. Each earphone has some controls. The right side has a nice touch pad which will raise/lower volume, skip tracks (forward and backward), pause and repeat tracks and has a microphone for use during calls. The left side turns the earphones on/off, handles Bluetooth pairing, activates the noise cancelation feature and also takes calls. One nice feature is Quick Attention which shuts off noise cancellation and lowers music volume when you touch the right headphone, enabling you to easily hear outside sounds (such as transit announcements), and then resumes noise cancellation and music volume when you remove your hand. But an even more clever feature is Speak-to-Chat which shuts off noise reduction and music when you speak, then resumes music and noise reduction when you stop speaking. Don’t worry if you like to sing along to your music – you can disable this feature! Finally, if you rely on Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant you will appreciate the easy integration with those services provided by these headphones.
In summary, the Sony WH-1000XM4 noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones are an excellent value and packed with premium features for discerning music fans who demand superb noise isolation, a very comfortable headset and above-all, beautiful and accurate sound reproduction. They are an ideal choice for traveling and would pass boring hours in airports and on planes with gold stars for quality, sound level and range. I am happy to award Sony’s new WH-1000XM4 a full five stars and a hearty, unqualified endorsement. Invest in these and you will receive the twin dividends of heavenly music and unmatched isolation from all of the unwanted, annoying noises assaulting you every day!

Wake Cases for the Woke iPhone
on July 13, 2020
Posted by: JimC
from Chicago, IL
The LifeProof Wake iPhone Xr/11 Case provides a layer of extra protection for your treasured, but somewhat fragile, iPhone. With iPhones now costing $1,000+ it is very prudent to add a protective barrier around your phone to minimize the chance of damage when you inevitably drop it. The bigger iPhones (like the 11 and the 11 Pro Max) are much more likely to pop out of your hand while using them. This LifeProof Wake case is certified to protect your iPhone from damage in the very sad event of a two meter fall.
LifeProof was founded in San Diego, California in 2009. It produces a line of cellphone cases, flotation cases, belt clips, headphones, chargers, arm bands and bike mounts. LifeProof built its reputation on the waterproof and shockproof cases it introduced in 2011. The cases are noted for their thinness, protective qualities and outstanding durability. LifeProof was acquired by OtterBox in 2013.
Here are the key features of this sturdy case:
• LifeProof Wake iPhone Xr/11 case (Model 77-65115)
• Color: Neptune (Blue/Green)
• Sustainably made from over 85% ocean-based recycled plastic
• Mellow wave pattern on back improves grip somewhat
• Raised bezel around screen protects glass from shattering or scratching
• Certified to withstand repeated 6.6 foot drops
• Designed to support Qi wireless charging
• Material will not interfere with phone reception
• Form fitting: 6.2 x 3.3 x 0.5 inches
• Lightweight: 0.9 ounces
• One year warranty (? – see below)
The primary marketing feature of this case is that 85% recycled ocean-based plastic is used in its manufacture. This nice thought – help clean the oceans while protecting your phone from careless handling – is more fluff than substance given that the case weighs less than one ounce. Not really doing that much for the environment, but it sounds very woke.
Installation is very easy. The case snaps around the iPhone 11/Xr with just a little effort. Once on, it is very secure and will not easily come off. The case is surprisingly thin and does not add significantly to the bulk of the iPhone. The full front surface of the screen is still accessible after the case has been installed. The appearance is very clean and the brand name is inconspicuous, just faintly embossed on the back.
The matt finish of the case is non-reflective and is designed to resist discoloration from heat, sunlight and chemicals. This is a simple, open-face case which provides only shock protection. It is not water-proof and has no protection for the screen (other than a slightly raised bezel on the edges.)
Once the case was installed I noticed that the phone felt somewhat slicker. LifeProof has designed the case to easily slide in and out of your pocket by smoothing its outer edges. I have mixed feelings about this feature. On the one hand it does make it easier to fish my phone out of my jeans, but on the other hand I am afraid that I will find that hand empty because the phone slipped out of it! The smooth surface of the case edges really did not add a sense of security, which is the whole point of a cell phone case. The back of the case does have a nice wave pattern and this does give a little grip, but most of the time you are holding your phone by its sides (which are slick.)
I had no issues with charging my phone wirelessly and I did like the fact that the wave pattern made it less likely that I would accidently knock my phone off the charging pad and onto the floor.
One issue that I have with this case is the warranty. Tucked into the packaging is a 28 page multi-folded document in very small print and multiple languages which purport to explain the warranty. It seems that the warranty is one year, two years, five years, seven years or lifetime depending upon which product group this case falls into. But this case name (LifeProof Wake) is not listed anywhere in this ridiculous piece of legal trash. Given that the case is just a single piece of plastic and that phones rarely last more than five years why not just give a blanket lifetime warranty? Remember, this warranty is just on the case, not an insurance policy against damage to your phone.
So what rating does this case deserve? From a protection standpoint it is just average. Other cases give guaranteed protection from damage in up to 12 feet drops while this case claims only 6.6 feet drop protection. Further, the slippery sides may increase, rather than decrease the risk of dropping the phone. The sustainability element is nice but not really significant except as a virtue-signal for those who care about such things. Finally, the arcane warranty document alone deserves a one star deduction.
Bottom line, it is a nice, attractive case and I could recommend it to someone who wanted basic protection for their iPhone, but I really can’t give it more than three stars.

I bought my first kitchen appliance more than forty years ago and in all of the years since I have never owned a stand-alone toaster. When I set up my first kitchen the “toaster-oven” has just been introduced. This multi-purpose appliance took the place of a toaster and a small oven and over the years the capabilities of toaster ovens have expanded. My current device has convection baking, steam oven, broiler and toaster functions.
But somehow, the basic toasting function of toaster ovens has never matched the output you would expect from a simple toaster. The shelf has to be positioned just right, the unit takes quite a bit of time to complete the toasting cycle and you have to play hit or miss on the timing. It gets the job done, but always with a compromise in quality. The solution is to go retro and return to a single purpose appliance – the toaster.
But Revolution Cooking has refined that basic appliance, expanded and optimized its functions and wrapped the final product in a remarkable package.
When I opened the new Revolution Cooking High Speed Smart Toaster I was immediately impressed by the beauty and elegance of this device. The brushed stainless steel sides are elegant and easy to wipe clean. The heavily chromed front and back framing provide a look of real quality while minimizing the area which might show fingerprints. The large (3.3” x 5.8”) color LCD touch screen not only controls all functions but also provides a nice clock with date (in either analog or digital format) when the toaster is idle. One subtle but effective design element is that the LCD screen is set about 20 degrees back of vertical. This adds a contemporary accent but more importantly, aids in viewing the screen.
Setup of the R180 is very easy. The touchpad is responsive and all settings are accessible at the standard “gear” icon: Set the date and time, choose the default bagel size (bakery or standard), select the sound and screen brightness level.
At the toasting control screen you select the type of item to be toasted (bread, English muffin, pastry, waffle, bagel) then indicate whether the item is “fresh” (which also means refrigerated), frozen or is simply being reheated. Finally, you choose the degree of toasting (“brownness level”) on a seven point scale. One level left or right of the center position will typically be right for most items, but you may have your own preferences.
Tap “start” and the food item is lowered automatically and the screen changes to an analog timer with a clockwise change in the surrounding dots. At the final ten seconds a digital timer appears and a chime sounds as the food item is lifted up.
The Revolution Cooking High Speed Smart Toaster is - as the name implies - Fast! It took approximately one-third as much time to toast two pieces of bread as my big multi-function toaster oven. And the result was uniform brownness. A second benefit of the speed was that the toast was not dried out. I believe that the outer surface of the bread is seared, like a steak on a grill, by the high temperature of the massive array of diamond coil heating elements and sensors.
Unlike conventional toasters which have a heating element wire laced across the sides to heat the toast, the R180 has an almost continuous set of diamond coil heating elements on all of the lateral interior surfaces. This gives very uniform heating and browning.
I have toasted a wide variety of items in the R180 and each was nicely and quickly browned to my taste (after a bit of experimenting on the correct shade selection. In particular I toasted some sourdough crumpets - essentially a thick English muffin (which had given me trouble in my toaster oven) – and they were delicious.
One nice feature is the crumb tray system. After a certain number of items have been toasted you will receive a reminder to empty the crumb tray. It slides out the front and is very easy to clean.
The toasting slot is about 5 inches long by 4.5 inches deep by about 1.2 inches thick. This allows sufficient room for most items. However, if you are a fan of wide bakery bread (Italian, sourdough, rye) you will find that you need to cut each piece in half before toasting it. Not a big problem, but I thought it should be mentioned for those (like me) who are used to the unlimited size capacity of toaster ovens.
You will appreciate how little space it takes on your counter, but if you only make toast occasionally it is lightweight and could be stored inside a cabinet between uses.
Is this toaster worth its substantial price? Every top kitchen appliance brand offers a toaster in this price range, so the price is not that unusual for those who demand the best. The Revolution Cooking R180 toaster is definitely a premier product and offers unique features not found on other toasters in its price category. So by that criteria it is fairly priced.
Once you accept that pricing rationale you can focus on the delight of having a beautiful, compact device that does exactly what you want it to do, and does it very well! Given the number of positive aspects and the fact that I really can’t find a significant flaw, I really have no qualms about giving the Revolution Cooking R180 Two Slice High Speed Smart Toaster a full five stars and a “well-done” commendation!

The Mooni Aurora Mini wireless portable Bluetooth speaker lantern is an elegant addition to your home décor which provides not only a nice Bluetooth speaker but a beautiful accent lamp which features nine colors and multiple lighting effects at a price which makes it one of the best values on the market.
Mooni International is a Swedish firm which creates original (“Mooni”) solar, RGB/LED and low voltage mood lighting, portable speakers and Bluetooth speakers, all crafted with Scandinavian design flair.
This very compact unit is a delightful combination of varied lighting features and a small Bluetooth speaker, both controlled by a slim remote control.
Here are the relevant features and specifications:
• Mooni Aurora Mini Speaker Lantern 2.0 (Model MN-SL008-101)
• 5 watt Bluetooth speaker
• Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity with 33 foot range
• 3 watt LED lighting (equivalent to 25 watt incandescent bulb),
• 20,000 hour life expected for LED
• Nine colors, four light levels and four lighting effects (flash, strobe, fade, smooth change)
• IP 44 rating (dirt and splash resistant)
• Scandinavian design, sleek and easy to clean
• Full function remote control includes spare CR2032 battery
• Power supply: 3.7 volt 1200 mAh lithium ion battery, 78“ micro USB recharge cable included, full charge time 4 hours
• Battery life up to 9 hours (4 hours at maximum volume and brightness level)
• Lighting effects can be turned off entirely to extend battery life
• Very compact: 5.6” wide and 6.3” tall
• One year parts and labor warranty
When you open the box and unpack the unit you will be impressed by the luxurious, soft cloth bags used to enclose the speaker and the accessories. Another nice aspect is the very nice, full-function compact remote control. Mooni even includes a spare CR2032 battery for the remote!
This little gem is a versatile accent lamp, adding flair and ambiance to your parties and backyard gatherings. It will brighten a bathroom, a child’s bedroom or add a nice warm, stylish touch to your family room. You can set the colors to rotate or remain on a single color at varying light output levels.
The sound produced by this speaker is distortion-free and steady at both low and high volumes. The single 5 watt speaker is mounted at the top of the lantern so the sound is dispersed upward and is non-directional. There is not much bass response but it would serve nicely as a supplemental speaker for a bedroom or bathroom. (If stronger bass is a requirement I suggest that you move up to the Mooni MN-SL001-001-02 model which has a 10 watt speaker and costs just $20 more than this unit.)
The Bluetooth connection was effortless and solid from every device I tried (phone, tablet, laptop). It held the connection steady up to about 35 feet from my music source. The IP 44 rating means that it is resistant to water splashed on it from any direction and will resist dirt infiltration so it is safe to use outdoors.
One nice bonus feature is the ability to automatically connect with a second Mooni speaker to deliver true stereo sound. Given the low cost of this unit you should consider buying a pair for that purpose.
The bottom line on this sturdy, water resistant lantern speaker is that is provides acceptable sound quality from a very stylish body at a very affordable price. I endorse it without reservation!

The Philips Norelco 7940 is the latest entry by Philips in a new generation of connected consumer personal care products. It incorporates a number of important advancements in shaving technology and is designed to provide the ultimate in sensitive skin care of any shaver available.
Norelco shavers are manufactured by Philips North America (the tradename Norelco comes from North American Philips electrical Company.) which is a unit of Koninklijke Philips N.V. , a $20 billion Dutch electronics, lighting and medical products company founded in 1891. Among its best-known consumer products are Norelco grooming devices, Sonicare oral health products, Magnavox & Philips audio and video products, Philips kitchen appliances and personal healthcare.
Here is a summary of the key features:
• Model: Philips Norelco S7940/84

• Cleaning/Charging Stand Dimensions: 10 inch height, 5.7 inch depth, 4.8 inch width

I have used Norelco and other premium quality electric shavers for many years so I know what to expect and demand. This new Norelco 7940 is replacing a Norelco 9160 XL which was the previous top-of-the-line model and has given me flawless service for the past dozen years. See photo comparison of the new and old shavers.
Like all Norelco shavers the 7940 is elegantly styled and very ergonomic. It is a nice combination of steel blue, silver and black. It is lightweight, but feels substantial in your hand. There is rubberized grip material where your index finger and thumb would grasp the shaver and your remaining three fingers cradle the bottom of the shaver’s body. It is a bit longer than my older Norelco and a bit lighter. Hidden icons on the front of the shaver (which are visible only when lighted) indicate connection status, sensitivity setting, a notice to clean the shaver, the Travel Lock status and the battery condition.
The included cleaning/charging stand is rather bulky and it will consume about 20 square inches of your bathroom counter space. It is glossy black plastic with the top portion holding the shaver and the base containing the replaceable cleaning cartridge. LED icons indicate the charging status, the cleaning cycle and an alert notice when it is time to replace the cleaning cartridge.
However, before you can use all of the 7040’s features you need to download the “GroomTribe” app to your smartphone. This requires pairing the shaver with your phone through Bluetooth but the process is very simple. Once paired, the app will offer a “guided shave” which monitors your shaving progress and provides tips to improve it. Usually the tip is just “Use smaller circles” or “Move the shaver slower. ” You will also be asked questions about skin irritation and the app will adjust the comfort setting between Normal, Sensitive and Extra-Sensitive accordingly. You can also manually select any of these settings, but only through the app. (You cannot change settings using just the shaver.) The app also has a number of helpful illustrated tips to improve your overall shaving experience.
So how well does it work? Superbly! The shaving function is the most effective I have ever experienced. It is quiet (no loud buzz like some electric shavers) and it removed every trace of my stubble with absolutely no irritation to my skin. I am accustomed to very good shavers and this is certainly the best I have ever used. I did shave for about 10 minutes, more than the suggested 3 – 4 minutes, but I am not about the break the habits of a lifetime just to stay within Norelco’s concept of an ideal shaving time.
Did the “Guided Shave” help? No, not really. It just made me nervous to have my $1,000+ smartphone sitting on my bathroom counter so that I could watch the screen for instructions. I kept imagining the phone being destroyed by getting knocked off the counter onto my marble floor tiles. I think the concept of a Bluetooth-connected shaver, guided by an app, is techno-overkill. As I noted earlier, the advice given by the guided shave feature is pretty trite and unnecessary. Perhaps a neophyte to electric shavers might find it useful but I don’t think it added any value. I suggest that you spend some money on a good, lighted, magnifying shaving mirror and you will achieve far better results than by relying on the advice of this app.
When finished, I rinsed the shaver and put it into the cleaning/charging station. The station activated the cleaning cycle and for the next ten minutes the shaver would periodically run for a few seconds, stop, then run again. At the end I opened the shaver head and it was spotlessly clean and glistened with a light lubricant fluid which had a nice aroma. So I give this feature top marks for effectiveness. The downside is that the cleaning cartridges need to be replaced every three months at a cost of about $6 each time. Not a huge cost but something to keep in mind.
However, I was curious if just rinsing the shaver heads would actually clean out all of the clippings. The next time I shaved I opened the shaver head and saw my beard clippings filling the head. I closed it up, then rinsed the head under running water and opened it again. It was completely clean! I am amazed by this since my old Norelcos always required me to flip open the shaver head to clean out the clippings. The new design somehow allows water to flow through and clean the heads thoroughly without opening them! So if you want to forego using the cleaning system I think you will still have a fairly clean shaver by just rinsing it.
The separate trimmer head is a big improvement over the old, flip-out trimmer on previous models. It gives much better control and visibility. Nice design, Norelco!
The shaver comes with an elegant, form-fitting travel case. But there is no room for the charger in the case! I wish that Norelco would change the design of its chargers to a USB-C system. That way a simple USB-C cable could recharge the shaver and eliminate yet another electronic item to pack on trips. Norelco makes the assertion that a full, 50 minute charge is sufficient for 17 shaves, but most men will shave longer than 3 minutes, which means that you can really only expect 5 or 6 shaves before depleting the charge.
Another issue I have with the travel case is that Norelco does not include a protective plastic cover for the shaver head. See photo of my old shaver’s protective cap. Why did Norelco eliminate this very inexpensive, but extremely valuable item? A careless drop can damage the expensive shaver head but a plastic cap can eliminate that risk.
OK, so how do I rate the Norelco 7940? For pure shaving function, it certainly deserves five stars. But the irritation created by the various issues noted above (size of the cleaning station, techno-overkill of the connected app, inability to change the shaver settings without using the app, lack of a protective cap, etc.) drop the overall rating to just four stars. I really like this shaver but I wish that Norelco would drop its obsession with Bluetooth connectivity and just invest in a better (USB-C) charger. Then this shaver would be perfect!
You may disagree with my grumblings about some of the minor issues associated with the Norelco 7940 but I can assure you that you will agree with me that it delivers an absolutely superb shave every time!

Cordless Agility, Super Cleaner, Easy to Maintain!
on December 8, 2019
Posted by: JimC
from Chicago, IL
The Bissell Crosswave Cordless Max Multi-Surface Wet/Dry Cleaner is a remarkably versatile and attractive device which does so many functions so well that you may wonder how you got along without it! It has a number of improvements over the wonderful corded Crosswave cleaner.
What does it do? Vacuums carpets, shampoos carpets, vacuums hard floors, mops hard floors, cleans up all pet hair and “accidents” and serves as a general purpose light-duty wet/dry vacuum! And it does all of this with a very well-engineered, light-weight body that is very easy to maintain. If you hate dragging out a heavy carpet cleaning machine or finding a way to shove it back into a crowded closet, this multi-purpose cleaner will solve that problem too.
Bissell began in 1876 when Melville Bissell invented the first successful carpet sweeper. Queen Victoria gave the company a big endorsement by insisting that her palace be “Bisselled” every week. In 1956 Bissell released its first carpet shampooer. Many improvements followed including a deep cleaning carpet cleaner in 1979 and a series of pet-focused carpet cleaners in the 2000’s. At that time Bissell also became a major sponsor of pet charities, contributing a portion of its sales to pet shelters. Today Bissell is the largest producer of floor care equipment in the U.S. The Crosswave Cordless Max Multi-Surface Wet Dry Vac is their newest entry for home use.
Consider these features:
• Crosswave Cordless Max Multi-Surface Wet/Dry Cleaner (#2554)
• Simultaneously vacuums and washes carpets, area rugs and hard surface floors
• Large non-slip ergonomic handle for effortless control
• Two smart-touch power settings on handle: rugs and floors
• On-demand solution trigger
• LED lights at base and on controls
• 25 minutes running time from 36 volt lithium ion battery
• Swivel head for great maneuverability
• Handle on base to aid in carrying unit
• 10.5 inch wide cleaning path with improved edge cleaning
• Bissell Connect app provides tips, alerts, maintenance tracking
• 28 ounce water/cleaning solution tank
• 19 ounce dirty water tank with automatic shut-off
• Easily removable high-impact clear brush window
• Brush rollers easily remove for cleaning
• Two multi-surface brush rollers included
• Two 8 ounce Multi-Surface cleaner bottles and two 8 ounce Tough Mess/Odor Eliminator cleaner bottles included
• 3 in 1 docking tray (with brush roller and filter stand) stores, cleans and charges unit
• Lightweight! Just 11.5 pounds!
• Two year limited warranty
I have owned a corded Bissell Crosswave PetPro cleaner for two years and use it nearly every day. In my condo the cleaning challenges I face are a 2400 sq. ft. mix of granite and hardwood floors and a sweet little Yorkie who is a bit leaky. The corded PetPro is a wonderful device but when Bissell introduced this model I decided that having a cordless version of my beloved Crosswave would add a very valuable convenience dimension. In many respects it is similar to the corded version but I have found that the great Bissell engineers have made many improvements to an already superb appliance. See the photos of my corded and cordless Crosswaves side by side.
The Cordless Crosswave is very well-packaged and extremely easy to assemble. The box contains form-fitting shock-absorbing materials and the vacuum itself requires just the simple insertion of the handle to be ready for its work. When you remove the Crosswave from the box you will be impressed by the quality of its finish. It looks like the sophisticated high-tech device that it is, but it also looks very solid. The color is a nice combination of black and pearl white with light blue accents. The carpet/bare floor mode selector touch controls have LED lights and the clear brush roller cover also has LED lights which illuminate when the soapy water solution is applied. On the control panel are battery status, WiFi connection, a dirty water tank full warning and the mode (carpet/bare floor) indicators. Below the panel is the button for starting the brush cleaning process.
There are 2 tanks – one for water with a cleaning formula and another tank for the collection of dirt and soapy waste water – so there is no mixing of the two. Bissell includes four 8 ounce bottles of cleaner (Multi-Surface and Tough Mess solutions) to get you started. Note: you can also use your own cleaning solution if you prefer.
What you first notice about the Crosswave is that it is both lighter and quieter than most vacuums. The large and comfortable handle has the key buttons you need to use so it is just a finger press away from immediate use. The roller brush has both a soft mop-like surface and stiff brush elements to mop and scrub in a rotating action, like a paint roller.
Press the power button then use your foot to release the handle from the upright position (which starts the roller spinning), choose cleaning power setting on handle (“Rug” for more soap, “Hard Floor” for less soap), use trigger under handle to release more solution onto floor for tougher spills and you immediately see a row of LED lights illuminating the soapy solution being applied to the floor and being vacuumed up. There is no wear and tear on your hand or wrist due to the light weight of the Crosswave and the very responsive swivel head which makes it very maneuverable for tight corners. It required just two passes on any section of floor, once with soap being dispensed and once without soap, to clean it. It was that simple!
After cleaning your floors, remove the dirty water collection tank, lift up the strainer and dump the contents into a toilet. Then rinse out the tank and its parts in the bathroom sink. (I recommend replacing the stopper in the bathroom sink with a mesh strainer to catch any debris which may remain on the parts.) The Crosswave has a washable filter which will remove allergens, pollen and fine dust. The roller brush has an interesting “self-grooming” detangling system to keep hair from wrapping around the brush. The roller brush removes easily and it was no trouble to clean off any trapped dirt or hair that escaped the detangler. A light rinsing of the collection hose and clear brush roller cover completes the cleaning. This whole process takes just a couple of minutes and then you can place the reassembled Crosswave on the included tray to recharge and air dry.
Bissell suggests cleaning the Crosswave immediately after use by placing it on that stand and activating the self-cleaning function, but I believe that it is actually easier to just disassemble the brush unit and rinse the separate parts in a bathroom sink. The Crosswave is very well-engineered, the parts are easy to clean and disassembly/reassembly is very easy. This will also enable you to sanitize the parts. Prior to buying my corded Crosswave I had used another brand of floor cleaner for 15 years and it was a nightmare to disassemble and clean! The ease of post-use cleaning is another nod to good design by the thoughtful Bissell engineers seeing the problems from the consumer point of view.
So how well does it clean? Hardwood and tile floors: A+, carpets: B on first pass, but that improves to an A if you use it frequently. I found that it did an outstanding job on all of the hard surfaces, cleaning the floor and then pulling up all of the sudsy water and dirt. It left the floor clean, dry and streak-free!
The ease of use afforded by the cordless design cannot be over-stated. As I noted, I love my corded Crosswave but it is annoying to flip the cord out of the way during use and unplug it to move the cord to another outlet when you clean a large room. The battery life is substantial and allowed me to clean about 1,500 square feet before the low battery indicator began flashing.
But the improvements on this Crosswave Cordless Max go far beyond its portability. The roller brush is larger in diameter (see photo) which improves the cleaning process because the brush fibers have more flexibility and can soak up dirty water easier. The mounting points for the brush have been improved to strengthen them and to reduce the dead space on either side. This greatly aids edge cleaning because the brush is now much closer to the wall when cleaning the border of a room.
Maneuverability is better because the new Crosswave has larger wheels and there are numerous well-placed rubber bumpers on the body of the unit to protect your furniture. The open handle also makes the Crosswave easier to manage than the older, closed loop handle.
The actual cleaning process is considerably better on the new Crosswave Cordless Max because the filter fits very snugly and that substantially improves the effective suction power compared to the corded model. Finally, the debris strainer is much better. It completely covers the bottom of the dirty water collection chamber, making it much more effective in collecting larger debris. See photo.
The Bissell Connect app is new and some might find its information features useful. One design element which I wish Bissell would rethink is that the battery is not removable. It would be nice to have the option of charging a spare battery and exchanging batteries when the charge is depleted. But since most will use this cleaner for relatively small jobs, this is not a big issue.
Overall, I am confident that you will be very impressed by the quality of the Bissell Crosswave Cordless Max Multi-Surface Wet/Dry Cleaner and will appreciate its ability to thoroughly and effortlessly clean both your floors and your carpets in your home. Queen Victoria never had the opportunity to have a Bissell Crosswave clean her palace but I am enjoying the royal luxury of using this wonderful cordless floor cleaner and give it five well-earned stars and my highest recommendation!

Rich, Flawless Sound, Ultra Comfort, Just Superb!

The new Bowers & Wilkins PX7 wireless headphones are an outstanding option for a superb listening experience at home, traveling or in a noisy office. They combine ultra-premium audio reproduction, very effective noise suppression, easy-to-operate controls and a very long battery life. The famous Bowers & Wilkins quality is evident in every feature.
Bowers & Wilkins was founded in 1966 in Worthing, England by John Bowers. It is one of the world’s premier developers of high-end speaker systems, aided by Sir Kenneth Grange since 1975. Among its innovations was the use of Kevlar fibers in speaker cones (to improve rigidity and reduce distortion), phase linear transmission, Matrix cabinet enclosures, separating tweeters from the main speaker enclosure, Nautilus speaker geometry, Flowport bass reflex vents and diamond dome tweeters. Since 2010 the company has designed and introduced successively more sophisticated headphones. The P5 series, the company’s first Bluetooth headphones, were released in 2015. The PX headphone series was launched in 2017.
Here are the key features:
• Bowers & Wilkins PX7 noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones
• Ergonomic, fully adjustable over-ear, closed dynamic headphone
• Woven lightweight carbon fiber composite arms provide strength and durability
• 43.6 mm full-range dome driver for maximum bass and very accurate wide frequency response
• 10 – 30,000 Hz audio frequency range, less than 0.3% THD distortion
• Adaptive noise-canceling/suppression technology helps block external noises, may be switched on or off, high and low level
• Monitor function allows ambient sound to be easily heard while wearing headphones, may be switched on or off
• Bluetooth 5.0 reception range up to 50 feet, NFC pairing connection option, supports aptX Adaptive, HD and Classic codecs plus AAC and SBC codecs
• Bluetooth connection can be made with two devices at the same time (active with only one)
• Two built-in microphones for making and receiving phone calls (Clear Voice Communication v2), four microphones for Adaptive Noise Cancellation
• Bowers & Wilkins Control app provides additional setup, customizations and adjustments
• Power and Bluetooth pairing buttons on right earphone
• Noise cancelation control (high/low/auto/off) on left earphone
• Automatic standby mode when headphones are removed
• 30+ hours continuous use from rechargeable internal lithium ion power source: 3 hours to fully charge with included 48” USB-A to USB-C connection cable
• 5 hours use after 15 minute quick charge
• 3.5 mm (headphone) male-to-male 52” connection cable included, USB-C cable can also serve as headphone audio connection
• Elegant grey fabric covered hard shell storage/travel case
• Easy to follow illustrated quick set-up guide included, full owner’s manual available by download
• Foldable design for compact storage
• Size: 6.2 inches by 8.5 inches by 2.5 inches
• Weight: 11.3 ounces
• Two year limited warranty on parts and labor
The box has the headphones, set-up instructions, a 48” USB-C charging/connection cable, a 52 inch long 3.5 mm direct-connect wire cable and a hard shell case. The quick set-up guide is a two-sided illustration of basic features. You have to download the 8 page owner’s guide from the Bowers & Wilkins website and the associated app to add some additional control features.
The hard shell case is covered in a beautiful gray fabric and its elegance gives you your first indication that these headphones are premium quality. The headphones are also covered in a space grey fabric with a black leather-like surface on the ear pads and the headband. The frame is very lightweight but is constructed of a very strong and durable carbon fiber composite. The ear pads have super-soft memory-foam cushions for superb comfort and noise isolation.
A USB-C cable recharges the lithium ion battery. A green LED light will flash during charging (up to 3 hours when fully discharged.) then glow continuously when they are fully charged. The stated music playing time of thirty hours seems conservative since I found the headphones would operate for nearly forty hours before fading out. The customizable auto-off feature aids this very long battery life. One nice feature here is that the USB-C cable allows you to listen to music from your computer while the earphones are charging.
Press the power button and an audio prompt indicates when the power is on or off. Pair the earphones with your phone or other source via Bluetooth. An audio prompt guides you, but my phone paired them very quickly and without drama. A blue LED indicates the connection has been made. The connection remained very solid throughout my home, up to nearly 50 feet. These headphones use Qualcomm’s new aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec which promises the best blend of full frequency response and low latency with rock-steady connection reliability.
The headphones are fully adjustable and the very soft pads completely and comfortably enclose even the largest ears. The Bowers & Wilkins PX-7 are the most comfortable headphones I have ever worn. They are light (11.3 ounces) and have plenty of adjustment range to enable a perfect fit. The left and right earphones are clearly labeled with a large “L” and “R” on the inner surface. The earphone pads are fairly large (about 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide) so they qualify as “over ear” and they provide excellent sound isolation. You can wear them for many hours in perfect comfort and your ears will never complain.
Pressing the ANC (automatic noise canceling) button turns on that feature with an audio announcement which indicates level (high, low, auto, off.) The ANC technology uses four microphones (two on each earphone) and is very effective for mid-frequency noise. I turned on both my shower and bathroom sink faucet and the noise (which would normally be very loud) was just a faint hiss which I could easily ignore while listening to the music. You can also allow ambient noise to pass through by pressing the ANC button for two seconds. Even without music playing the generous padding on the earphones provides excellent passive noise isolation. Further, you can adjust the degree of active noise cancellation using the Headphone Connect app. The PX7 would be a wonderful companion on a noisy airplane ride!
Like all good Bluetooth earphones these will respond to various voice commands, allow you to interact with Siri, take calls, etc. Each earphone has some controls. The right side has the power, Bluetooth connection and volume controls. The volume control will also answer phone calls, skip tracks (forward and backward), pause and repeat tracks and summon Siri. The left side has the noise cancelation control. One clever feature is the Wear Sensor which shuts off power and pauses music when you remove the headphones.
The real value of the PX-7 headphones however, is not the noise-cancellation, but rather the incredibly rich sound experience they provide. They have an extremely accurate reproduction of music from lowest bass through mid-range notes and on to the highest frequencies. I played every range of music, from classical, blues, hard rock, jazz and a full range of vocals (opera through folk ballads) and these superb headphones never disappointed me. The sound quality is just beautiful.
My ultimate test for headphones is to play a complex jazz classic on them and compare that sound to the very expensive reference speakers on my old school, top-of-the-line stereo system. For the PX7 test I chose the album, “Kind of Blue” by Miles Davis, perhaps the greatest jazz recording of all time. With this amazing music the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 showed me what it can really do. The Miles trumpet solos were clean and bright, I could literally feel the bass strumming and drum solos as though they were right in front of me, the Bill Evans piano riffs were perfect and the brilliance of Cannonball and Trane were undiminished. The PX7 transported me back to that historic 1959 recording date. If I walked into my study and turned on my five figure stereo system to the same music I might be able to isolate some minor differences from the reproduction achieved by these headphones, but that is just a “might.” And if I did that I am not sure that I would be able to consistently tell the difference even in pieces like “Kind of Blue” for which I know every note. I really cannot give these wonderful Bowers & Wilkins PX7 headphones a higher compliment than that.
One point that deserves note – the drivers are 43.6 mm, not 40 mm as indicated on the box. I am surprised that Bowers & Wilkins made this error. But 43.6 mm drivers are nearly 19% larger than 40 mm drivers. That greatly enhances their reproduction ability. I subjected these headphones to various extensive sound tests on YouTube and they passed each trial flawlessly.
Just a few complaints: First, no owner’s manual is included! There is a thick Safety and Warranty booklet (which no one will ever read) but you have to download the little 8 page owner’s manual. The Connect app is very limited, lacking an equalizer or sound mode selections. Finally, while the headphones fold to fit their case they remain pretty bulky. But would any of these minor issues make me regret this purchase? No way!
Bottom line - the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones are an excellent choice for even the most discerning music fans who want a very comfortable headset, superb noise isolation and beautiful sound reproduction. They are a perfect choice for traveling and would pass boring hours in airports and on planes with gold stars for quality, sound level and range. I can confidently award this amazing product a full five stars and my full, unqualified endorsement. Buy these if you really love music and know with certainty that you will never question that investment!

The Breville Combi Wave 3 in 1 is a wonderful addition to any kitchen. This stainless steel beauty is compact but contains a very sophisticated and powerful combination of microwave, convection oven and air fryer capabilities.
Breville was founded in Sydney, Australia in 1932. It began as an electronics manufacturer then sold that unit in 1955 and focused on small appliances exclusively. Today it produces a premium array of counter-top ovens, coffee machines, grinders, juicers, cookers, food processors, blenders, toasters, griddles, mixers and microwaves (among others!) Breville’s stated goal is to create products which deliver innovation based upon consumer insights, empowering their ability to create more impressive results in home kitchens, more easily than they thought possible. The Combi Wave 3 in 1 certainly achieves that goal in every respect.
Here is a summary of the key features of this superb appliance:
• Model: Breville Combi Wave 3 in 1 (Model BMO870BSS1BUC1)
• Color: Brushed stainless steel
• Oven capacity 1.1 cubic feet

• 12.4 inch diameter glass turntable

• Weight: 25.6 pounds
• 120v, cord length: 44 inches
• One year warranty on parts and labor
Like all Breville appliances, the Combi Wave 3 in 1 is beautifully designed and the quality of construction is very evident. It features a full, but very intuitive LCD display and control panel set into a stainless panel, augmented by six buttons, two large dials and two smaller buttons. Open the door and there is a column of one touch buttons to initiate common tasks, such as making popcorn, softening butter, keep warm, etc.) Putting these one touch buttons behind the door simplifies the appearance of the main controls – just another example of fine engineering by Breville.
The LCD display panel is large and contains all of the information needed during any cooking task. When no cooking program is active it just shows the time and the backlight is off. Open the door or touch any button and the screen brightens, moves into the default microwave mode, showing the power level and the cooking time (with 30 seconds as the initial time.) If your task just requires a microwave oven you are ready to go.
In microwave mode you will notice that this oven is much quieter, both in operation and when closing the door. The soft close functions like a fine automobile’s door, quietly and securely closing by itself in the last few inches. If you are annoyed by the slam of a typical microwave’s door, this will thrill you. When operating, the microwave is noticeably quieter. I assume this is due to the inverter technology which varies the microwave output as needed and also due to a much quieter fan. Inverter s allow the microwave to function are varying power levels, compared to conventional coils and transformers which require the microwave to run at 100% power, switching on and off during the cook time to attempt to achieve a similar result. But the varying power level of the inverter distributes the microwave energy more consistently, cooking food more evenly and greatly improving defrosting efforts (burned edges are typically eliminated.)
While Breville calls this a 3 in 1 oven it really could be considered a 4 in 1 oven. It can serve as a microwave (which heats food internally by using microwave radiation to excite water molocules), convection oven (which heats air and blows it around your food item to cook it by convection), air fryer (which also uses hot air but at a greater velocity) and a grill (which uses a heating element above the food tgo cook with radient energy.). The Breville Element IQ processor combines all four of these functions in a sequence and for the time as required to most effectively complete your cooking task.
To access the primary functions of the Breville you can just touch the appropriate button for microwave, grill, convection oven or air fryer, enter the time and temperature desired and start the process.
However, Breville has also cleverly programmed the preparation of many food items. If you touch the Food Menu button a list of fifteen items appears and selecting any of these will initiate the internal program. You will be advised on whether to use the included pan, its legs (folded or unfolded) and/or the wire rack. A preheating cycle may be initiated and there may also be instructions on any actions required (e.g., stirring in the mid-point of the preparation). While the cooking is underway icons will appear on the LCD screen indicating which functions (microwave, convection, air fryer, grill) are currently being used.
So how well does it work? Just great! I have already used many of these food preparation programs to make a variety of items (beef roulade, mixed (russet and sweet) potato French fries, a pear/apple strudel, Atlantic salmon, hamburgers with grilled onions, eggplant parmesan and pizza.)
In most cases I found that the pre-programmed settings did an excellent job of properly cooking the item. (See photos!) In some cases I needed to use the handy “a bit more” button to add time to the process but that was effortless. I did try the “from frozen” process for my salmon entrée and it worked well but I had to add quite a bit of time to bring the internal temperature of the salmon up to a correct level. To make pizza I would recommend using the wire rack and the convection oven feature rather than the crisper pan suggested by the food menu.
The Breville Combi Wave 3 in 1 scores very well when you examine any of its basic features. As a microwave oven it is superb. The quiet operation alone sets it apart from its competitors but the inverter technology also gives very fine control over the power output which makes tasks like defrosting much more effective. Another great option is the ability to turn off the rotation of the turntable. This latter feature is essential if you need to use a rectangular pan for a specific cooking task.
I had some reservations about how good the results of the air fryer feature might be. But the ease with which I made delicious French fries swallowed those qualms as fast as the fries disappeared when I placed them into a serving bowl. I used the air fryer function on some other sliced vegetables and also achieved great results.
The convection baking feature was outstanding in both baking and protein (meat and fish) preparation. The pear/apple strudel had a nice browned crust with a juicy fruit filling. The meat and fish entrees were suitably seared on the exterior and the interiors were fully cooked but still moist and tender.
While you can use the grill function as a stand-alone cooking element, it does not seem as powerful as the broiling element of most counter-top ovens. I did grill with it but its best use is to add browning in conjunction with the convection or microwave functions.
There are really only three negatives I can note about this Breville oven. First, it would be nice to have the actual oven temperature displayed on the LCD panel. The device preheats in most cooking programs but you never know what the actual temperature is, just the programmed temperature. Some might like a wired temperature probe to use during operations but I prefer to just use a chef’s thermometer to test meat or fish, so I think probes are unnecessary. Second, the internal light is rather dim and it is a bit hard to actually see the food being cooked. Finally, I would like to see Breville include a recipe book or even just a nice set of recipe cards. They do provide a number of suggested recipes on their website but I think they should print those up and include them in the box. Alternatively, they could mail them to new owners upon registration.
But these are relatively minor issues. I find it hard to criticize such a great appliance and only offer them as suggestions in case Breville reads these reviews.
When you add up the superb individual functions of the Breville Combi Wave 3 in 1, the multiplied power of these functions through the Element IQ programming, the ease of preparation afforded by the food menu/one touch buttons and the elegant design and other advanced technology features of this appliance, the Breville Combi Wave 3 in 1 has certainly earned a full five stars and my very enthusiastic recommendation!

Philips Norelco Shaver 9500 delivers superior closeness and personalized skin comfort with SenseIQ technology. Designed to prevent skin irritation, the 9500 features Pressure Guard Sensor which guides you to the the right pressure as you shave.

Does this include a charging stand? It seems not. If not, can I buy a charging stand for this, separately?

The QuickClean pod doubles as a charging stand. You just attach the charging cord to the shaver while it is resting in the QuickClean pod.

Is this electric razor (the S9500) made in the Netherlands? I know that the higher end Phillips/Norelco models are usually manufactured in the Netherlands.

Yes, the shaver is both designed in the Netherlands and manufactured there.

Explore a new world of personalized home theater audio. The SRS-NS7 Wireless Neckband Speaker uses Sony~s 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer technology to envelop you in the rich audio of your favorite shows and movies, while being unobtrusive to others in your home.

Can you hook the transmitter up to an AVR? If you can, will you lose any of the features? I have a surround sound system, but late at night I would want to use the NS7 so as not to disturb the family.

I have a 7.1.4 sound bar system that is connected to my TV through the HDMI Arc port. I added the SRS-NS7 transmitter to my TV by connecting it to the optical digital audio output and powered the transmitter at the USB port of the TV. This provides a signal to the neckband speaker which is independent of the sound bar. I can use the sound bar, the neckbad speaker or both together. If I want to minimize sound for others I just mute the sound bar and listen to just the neckband speaker. It works fine that way but even better when I listen to it and the sound bar as the same time.

Sit back, relax and let the Samsung Jet Mop automatically clean your floors. Samsung~s Jet Mop automatically cleans all type of floors, like tile, vinyl, laminate or hardwood. This robotic mop features dual spinning fiber pads that easily and quickly remove dust and dirt. Now, you can simply take it easy as the intelligent Jet Mop does the hard work for you.

Does this unit require water(specific) or cleaner(special brand)? Example: deionized, distilled, tap, boiled, spring. Example: fabuloso, pledge, mop and glow, bleach/water, brand compatible.

No, just tap water is fine for the water tanks. I understand that you could also use a non-streaking floor cleaner but I haven't tried that yet.

What size pizza can it fit?

This is definitely not a pizza oven! Most frozen pizzas are 11 inches in diameter and "rising crust" pizzas are about 12 inches in diameter. The included "pizza pan" is only 9.2 inches interior diameter. You cannot use this air fryer to bake standard frozen pizzas.

Clean hard floors and rugs with this BISSEL CrossWave Cordless Max multisurface wet/dry vacuum. The multisurface design vacuums and washes floors simultaneously, and the powerful battery offers up to 30 minutes of use per charge. This BISSEL CrossWave Cordless Max multisurface wet/dry vacuum includes a docking station that charges the battery and automatically cleans out dirt and debris.

How is this wet/dry vacumm with long dog hair? Does it get caught in that tiny filter or does it filter through to the dirty water ?. I have to vacumm balls of hair everyday.

I have a Yorkie who has very long hair. The Crosswave Cordless does a great job of picking up any hair on the ground and it is trapped by the strainer or loosely wrapped around the roller brush. I have had no problem cleaning with this great unit.
