Crackdown 2

Crackdown 2 plays out in a near-future.The streets are overrun with super-powered,violent,mutant criminals. You must also prevent the overthrow of the peacekeeping Agency by the terrorist organization known as the Cell.Crackdown 2 doesn't really seem to bring anything new to the table. It seems like you're playing the first game all over again, even the graphics look like their from the first game, talk about deja vu.The game also has a hard time locking on to main targets even when their standing right next to you,and the camera could also use some work.Orb collecting is back, some you have to jump on rooftops and ledges to get, others you have to chase around for a while, but it helps your Agent's abilities throughout the game giving him the ability to jump higher, and run faster. If you haven't play the first game and are willing to overlook some of it's flaws don't pass this one up.Crackdown 2 is still a good time.
What's great about it: Orb Collecting,4 Player Co-op
What's not so great: Targeting System,Story Missions Are Bland,Multiplayer

To Be Or Not To Be Madden,That's The Question

The animation tackles in Backbreaker are pretty unique.Players are solid and connect physically. But the camera needs work,it locks behind the player so you can't tell what's going on around you, which is pretty annoying even in replays. You can also create your own teams, logos and endzones, but you can't share them online.During every kickoff in the game they play P.O.D.'s "Hear Come The Boom" which gets really old, really fast.Since it's also an unlicensed game it has no color commentary which makes the game feel empty. They should have just release the game as a down loadable game instead of retail.Backbreaker could have been a nice game but it's held back because of a lot of problems,it doesn't know if it wants to be an arcade game or football sim of Madden.
What's great about it: Animations Tackles,Create Teams
What's not so great: Camera,P.O.D.'s Song,No Commentary,Lack Of Modes,Controls,Price

If you liked last years game this review probably won't change your mind.Super Street Fighter IV looks and feels just like last years game, but it cost less and has an updated roster of characters.Juri is a tae kwon do master, and Hakan is a big red Turkish wrestler who drowns himslef in oil.The anime arcade story mode is back, but not all that interesting.Online modes have been tweaked, you can join online matches much faster, and the new endless battle mode lets you play winner stays with a full party of players. You can watch the matches til it's your turn, even save replays to help you gain an advantage over your oppenent.Replay theater has a channel select, you can also rename or rerate your files.Trail mode doesn't have a demostration to tell you what combos moves your suppost to do.But with new online modes, new characters, and a $40 price tag,you can't go wrong.

Lost Planet 2 is set 10 years after the first game. This game finds the frozen world of E.D.N. III undergoing a dramatic change.Once an arctic wasteland is now given way to tropical jungles and deserts. The gigantic,insect-like creatures known as the Akrid have also adapted to the changes. The boss battles in the game can be a little staggering, their so big you have to fight them from the inside.Theirs also vital suits, ranging from small battle size to the large multiple passenger variety, these suits let you bring serious firepower to the battlefield. The game also lets you rip off some of the suits guns and carry it into battle. Then theirs the multiplayer,up to 16 players can play online in a variety of game modes.Even story mode allows you to team up with other players. The boss battles in the game are just way to hard to play alone even with A.I. support, this game is geared for human co-op.The smaller enemies in the game just seem under sized and just plain forgettable. The game also has a frustrating save system, and poor targeting mechanics, which is vital for tagging giant enemies sweet spots. It's a pretty good game, but like most games today it's all about the multiplayer.
What's great about it: Co-op Story Mode,Multiplayer,Vital Suits
What's not so great: Boss Battles Way Too Hard Alone,Save System,Targeting System

Splinter Cell Conviction is not like the game you remember. It's a fully revamped fast paced, fast action reinvention of the franchise and it's not really all that bad.Sam Fisher's daughter is murdered, and causes him to leave Third Echelon to find answers, but is ultimately pulled back into the spy game by an old colleague. To deal with his enemies Sam has become faster and far more agile than before. He can literally run along the sides of buildings, and has a new mark and execute system lets you designate multiple targets and eliminate them perfectly with the touch of a button. At times it can make the game seem a little too easy. But you have to recharge your execute power by hand to hand combat after using it.If Fisher is caught in the middle of a maneuver he can still try to dash to the shadows for a quick getaway. If your successful in regaining stealth,a ghost image of Fisher will appear where he was last spotted, giving you a visual reference to where the enemies will be concentrating there attention and perhaps allowing you to attempt a surprise attack from a different angle. Also there are lots of guns to choose from, the game seems like more of an action shooter than a stealth game at times. The stream line control scheme works very well, and moving Sam around seems more intuitive than the previous game. You might be tempted to run and gun alot more than you should, but the game will quickly deliver you a humbling lesson. Some people will say that this is not real Splinter Cell game, and they might have a point, there is no hacking, lock picking or moving dead bodies around, but you can still torment your enemies and pull off some pretty sweet kills.2 player co-op is back with a solid story mode that serves as a prequel to Sam's solo mission.Agents Archer and Coste provide a counter point to the versions of events in Sam's campaign, and features a twist at the end.If your a fan of stealth action games add this to the collection.
What's great about it: Action,2 Player Co-op,Faster,Guns
What's not so great: No Lock picking,No Hacking

Make Room For Bad Company

Picking up the story soon after the first game, the story follows the group through the rocky Russian border and beyond, with missions set in dense jungles and deserts as well as snow-covered mountains.Buildings and other objects of all sizes can be damaged and destroyed completely, with the right firepower at the right time and place. You can proceed through each mission as you see fit, stealthy ambushes, tactical strikes,or heavily armed frontal assaults that leave nothing but smoldering rubble in your wake.As in the first game, you can customize your character by choosing an equipment kit before the start of each mission. In Bad Company 2,four basic kits are available,Assault,Recon,Medic, and Engineer. Each gives your character special abilities and limitations, encouraging squad-mates to support one another and work together as a team instead of individually. You may commandeer vehicles you find in your missions, including motorcycles, tanks, patrol boats, and Blackhawk helicopters.Your characters earn experience for killing enemies and accomplishing mission objectives.Experience points can be spent to upgrade your character. You can also collect dog tags from the enemies you take down. But in addition to the single-player campaign, the game supports a wide variety of online multiplayer options, including an assault-style "Rush" mode in which teams take turns defending and attacking crates of valuable cargo. The controls in the game are not as tight as in Modern Warfare, but that doesn't make the game any less fun.The sound actually makes it sound like your on a real battlefield, and you hear some really interesting stuff in the campaign mode as well. The graphics are a little of a step above the first, with the game almost mocking that of the Modern Warfare series.Multiplayer is why you buy this game, the only reason you'll play the campaign is to get more gamer score points.Bottom line it's time to add another shooter to the collection if your a fan of first person shooters,I suggest you pick up this game,it's a must have.
What's great about it: Multiplayer Tons Of Fun,Environmental Destruction
What's not so great: Single Player Campaign Not As Appealing As Online Multiplayer

Rebellion the developers of Rouge Warrior brings you AVP.Made like it's movie counterpart you can play through 3 campaigns,Alien,Predator, and Marine. In the end all 3 campaign missions are linked together. The Predator campaign is the best out of the 3 because he hunts high above the levels, uses his shoulder laser cannon, rips peoples spines out,and even turns invisible to blend in with the background.Sometimes it's hard to know where or how high you can jump with the Predator. It seems at times the controls are broken, just like in Rouge Warrior. The Alien can move above the levels, crawl through vents, just like in the movies, but has a hard time with running across certain objects. The Marine plays just like a FPS.Certain points the graphics look a little dated, some of the level designs looked a little bland. The sound is pretty much what you've heard in almost all the alien, predator movies, the music could use some improvement on certain levels, voice acting is just not up to par.The game is about 2-3 hours for each campaign.Multiplayer is probably the best thing this game has going for it,and that's not really saying much. While at times this game does certain things right,it also does a lot of things wrong. At a price of $60 spend your money on a solid FPS.

Dante's Inferno is based on the Divine Comedy, taking you through the 9 circles of hell to get his wife back from Satin.Dante's weapons are a scythe after you defeat the Grim Reaper, and a cross, one your wife gives you before going to hell. You have Holy and Unholy meters to fill as you go through the game, and you get to Punish or Absorb the demons and creatures of hell. The game is not for kids because of alot of the cutscenes and gameplay.Filled with nudity and brutal violence this game pushes the M rating it was givin. The game plays alot like God Of War with Dante whipping Death's scythe around like a ninja warrior, regenerating loss health, music, voice acting, and quick time button events, and it's not really a bad thing. The graphics are pretty cool to look at,with every level looking the way it should.Take Lust, there are things in that stage you though you never see.The game can come to be a little repetitive, which you'll go through the game fighting the same demons and creatures over and over, using the same moves over and over. The game last about 9-10 hours give or take, depends if you die alot. This is one tour of hell you should not miss.

What's not so great: Repetitive Gameplay,Puzzle Solving,Not For Kids

I rented this game,it looked like a pretty good game, but don't be fooled by cover art.The game is about a cargo pilot name Will Grey who gets sucked into the Bermuda Triangle. He is voiced by Nolan North yes "Drake" from Uncharted 2.But anyway you team up with some survivors and an old flame named Ava to take on alien robots called The Watchers, who plan on taking over the world. The controls are a little hit and miss, the good thing about the game is the jet pack, but can take a while to get use to,but when you get the hang of it,it's second nature. But for the most part of the game you're walking, you go Thur the games repetitive and unexciting on foot shootouts before you even get to touch a jet pack. The cover system is ordinary and dated when compared to other games like Gears Of War.And they got a vertical cover mechanic in the game which is really nothing to talk about. The camera rotates and you shoot down a narrow field of range.Graphics are a letdown. The enemies are a bore to look at.It's just not what I was looking for in a third person shooter.

In Darksiders you play as War one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse to figure out what happened and clear his name. The game borrows a lot of ideas from other games like God Of War's combat and puzzle solving. The voice acting is ok with Mark Hamill playing as"The Watcher",but he makes him sound like "The Joker" from Batman Arkham Asylum which was a bit weird. The combat is too bland it's not really bad,but it just doesn't do anything new you haven't seen in other games.Weapon options in the game are limited, and theirs really nothing good about gaining upgrades.Lock on targeting to an enemy and dashing is pretty clunky.Finishing moves on enemies is very repetitive.Puzzle solving is very easy in the game which is too much of a time waster. The cut scenes are good, but the graphics lack. The environments you play in fall short of a world driven Apocalypse. The game lacks originality. If you like button mashing, hack and slash mediocre games give it a try.But for others wait for a better game.

Xbox vs PS3

My 7 yr old son is wanting a new game system for Xmas and I can't decide between the 360Pro and the PS3. We currently have original Xbox and he likes mostly sports games and the Lego games. The PS3 looks better in my opinion (plus it has Blu Ray ability) but I wonder if the games for it are more adult-oriented. I have also heard the stories of 360's going bad or is this not so much the case with the newer ones? Anyway when I ask him which he'd prefer he always says the Xbox360 first.
If he likes to play games online I say 360.Xbox live has the biggest online gaming community of the two systems. If he likes to watch movies I say PS3.But I've heard some people have taken back their PS3's because it didn't work for some reason.360 has made corrections on the RROD(Red Ring Of Death)and if theirs a problem with your 360 they'll fix it for free. But the first choice is always a good one.
