An enjoyable movie. Easily Melissa McCarthy's best movie since Bridesmaids, finally she picked a movie with good material. I didn't think The Heat was very good (or funny), but two outta three ain't bad for the acting/directing team of McCarthy and Feig. McCarthy is fully the star of this one, too. Jude Law and Rose Byrne are good costars, but it's definitely McCarthy's movie. I did like how they brought Jason Statham on board and played with his action image by making him useless.

A very touching film.

Interesting to see a true story romance that works and yet doesn't "end happily" due to real life events. Eddie Redmayne hasn't been on my rader until now and here, he's terrific. Probably the 2nd best performance I've seen from 2014 so far after Jake Gylenhaal in Nightcrawler, keeping in mind I still have a lot to see. The film and the role are sooooo Oscar bait-y, but both the movie and Redmayne are able to rise above its obvious manipulative appeal. I've been a huge fan of Felicity Jones since Like Crazy, and I hope this is finally her opportunity to be a big star as I think she deserves. The only real criticism I have is the obligatory athiesm vs. god/ science vs. god debate that has no real place and of course lets "faith" win the "argument."

Solid performance from Reese Witherspoon, who very quietly the last few years has been slowly rebuilding her acting credibility with more challenging roles. The story itself isn't all that great, but with Witherspoon's performance, good direction and editing Wild is able to overcome its story limitations.
