Great price but lacking low and bass

The ease of putting it together was perfect, The price is incredible (on sale for 299.99) and overall it is a great soundbar system for the price you're paying. My overall issue was the base was lacking. I previously had a Sony NT5 2.1 mixdown And it's base was way deeper heavier and fulfilling than this unit, and music clarity is also much better on the Sony. I will say that this does achieve giving you rear surround sound for a great price though. And honestly if you've never experienced deeper base with a better system you would never know the difference of what I am complaining about you here.

I'll start with the
pros: The Tvs design is premium, the remote is responsive and comfortable, the os is snappy and lag free and the audio is really punchy for a TV.

Now the cons, the picture. This TV has no business being $1300. This looks like a $500 TV. The blooming on blacks is ridiculous. I've never seen blooming this bad on any set from the corners or directly being the screen. It takes away from the experience completely.
HDR is unimpressive & Dolby Vision is flat. I calibrated it with rtings.com settings, Quantum TV settings and my own experience over the last 10 years and nothing looked good. I can't recommend this 75 inch ips panel. The off angle is even worse than the straight on view and that's the opposite of what ips is supposed to do. The picture of the tcl r646 is MILES AHEAD of this TV with no blooming and excellent color, hdr and highlights. Too bad the os experience is unreliable on that TV. My search for a good 75 inch tv under $2000 continues.

Let~s start with a quick round up. This is the best all-round TV. Hands down. Movies, gaming, sports... it~ll handle anything you can throw at it and look great doing it (try not to actually throw stuff, it~s just a figure of speech). No surprise when it~s got 4K resolution, Quantum Dot Color, Dolby Vision HDR, 120Hz native panel, Full Array Local Dimming Zones, anti-glare panel and powerful 1,500 nit peak brightness. What does all that mean? It~s like gazing at the sun melting into the Mediterranean Sea from Ibiza~s coolest bars. But sitting on your couch. At home. Then for gaming, we added Variable Refresh rate, Auto Low Latency Mode and FreeSync Premium to make the most of the latest generation gaming platforms. Even if you don~t know what half this stuff means, one look at the picture and you~ll want it.

Absolutely Terrible Backlighting

The only reason I'm giving this TV 2 stars is because the remote is great and the android os is VERY SNAPPY. Outside of those 2 features the picture quality is horrendous. The back light blooming is RIDICULOUS. this being an ips panel should give you better viewing angles and NO! Not one bit! It's even worse worse off angle. I seriously regret sending back the tcl 75r646, which navigation was frustrating but picture quality was off the charts amazing!...

Completely Blown Away by this picture.

So there was something about this TV on the end cap that grabbed my attention. The aesthetic of how thick it was and the fact that it's the only mini LED TV on display at Best Buy where you can't see blooming from the backlight. Now with all that being said I'm coming from a 2015 LG OLED so I'm used to the best picture but I did want to go bigger and felt confident that TCL has come a long way. And my God turning this TV on, I was shocked at how close to OLED black this TV gets. The color is incredible, HDR looks great, and the brights are so bright that the maximum that I can put this TV on is maybe 34. I'm a big fan of Google TV and the picture options on this are really great but there is a reason I gave it 4 stars.
That reason being the software itself is very buggy, there needs to be some software updates because there are several options in the menu that just simply don't work. Such as CEC HDMI control. The moment I plugged my HDMI sound bar into the arc Port which my $1,000 Sony HT nt5 Soundbar supports, the TV's sound came out through my soundbar but with CEC enabled on the soundbar, when you raise the volume you're only raising the TV's volume and not the Soundbar itself. It's also not controlling or moving anything on my Xbox PS3 or Blu-ray player, again CEC is enabled on all of these. The other part of the software that is surprising is if you're playing HDR or Dolby Vision video and try to press the settings button, it just lags and everything freezes and it takes forever. This is odd because the settings for the television should be completely separate from the Google interface that you're streaming from, but it almost feels like it's all one and that's not good. Now, I may be using an external Source such as my Xbox for media content but I really shouldn't have to, so hopefully future updates take care of this lag and CEC issue. On another note, hbo max WILL NOT play any Dolby Vision content, it completely freezes. Also if your watching TV & use the built in guide, there are options to use green & yellow buttons, which ARE NOT present on the remote itself.
I do see that some people have gotten bad panels here and believe me, that's a thing with every single brand but I got lucky getting this open box and having a completely white screen, no clouding issues and perfect blacks... as perfect as they're going to get on an LED. If you're curious about the capabilities of mini led, this is the TV to get.

This is a nice TV. I am upgrading from an older 6 series (R615) with the Roku OS. I use mine with an Apple TV and Xbox primarily. Overall am pretty satisfied with the picture and has noticeably better contrast management from my older 6 series.
However, there is one UI fail that I can’t seem to get past that may ultimately annoy me enough to return it: the CEC function does not work properly: (1) TV will only intermittently turn on when my ATV turns on and (2) TV will not turn off when I turn the ATV off. What you get is a disclaimer on the screen that there is no signal so you have to reach for the TV remote to turn the TV off.
This may seem like a minor annoyance and it’s certainly a first world problem. However, this is functionality that is expected to just work with today’s convergence of media equipment and indeed my older TCL 6 series and my not that old 5 series both have the same setups and work just fine where the CEC works properly so I can just use the ATV remote to operate all functions.
I did some superficial research and it seems to be an issue with the R646 sets with the Google TV operating system. And the most recent Reddit thread that I read (from October 2021) leads me to the conclusion that TCL has not addressed it and in fact TCL responses posted by other owners can be summarized as: “that’s how it is designed to work.”
So, in the end, it’s a nice TV, but if you use any other device and expect that CEC functionality to work, it won’t right now (and I have no idea if TCL will ever fix the issue). But if you plan to just use the TV itself, this is a non-issue for you.

I'm having the same CEC issue. It's not controlling my soundbar volume but raising the tvs volume when using the remote. Also it isn't controlling anything connected to it outside of turning it on. But doesn't turn it off. I'm hoping this will be addressed with a future software issue along with the lag in the smart features.

Well, Today, There is no sound coming from any input on the tv, whether it be antenna, xbox, bluray or my switch but there is sound coming from the native apps... seriously what is going on with the firmware here? Such an amazing picture and build, let down by awful software implementation.

Picture is PHENOMINAL, however - it is slightly buggy - even after the system being updated. Occasionally the TV will just shut off and cannot be turned on unless we unplug the TV, count to 60, and plug in again.
I'm sure this will be fixed in a future software update, but it's slightly annoying.

So I'm not the only one going through that. Good to know. There is nothing else in the size and price segment that even touches this tvs picture quality. But it is still buggy, something new that is happening with me, now is I have to unplug all hdmi's but the soundbar and restart the TV for it to recognize that the sound bar is connected.
