Not quite a masterpiece, but still fascinating

This movie was director Tarantino's biggest hit since "Pulp Fiction." Yet, judging from some of the reviews, many weren't happy with what they saw. Blame it partly on the marketing, which presented this as a Brad Pitt movie (he's only in it about 25 minutes) and a dark comedy, which it isn't (though it does have some humorous parts). Still, this is a remarkable, if flawed film. The three extended scenes are film-making of a very high order, and the remainder is never less than fascinating in that offbeat Tarantino way. I enjoyed the history rewrite, with Jews taking revenge on the Germans in gory but deliciously vivid ways. However, I also felt the director was pulling some punches, going for instant gratification instead of really probing the nature of good and evil that might have raised this to the level of a true classic. Still, watching Tarantino move with such ease into such a different genre is exciting. I think his best movies are yet to come, if he can restrain his impulse to always place style slightly ahead of substance.

Not groundbreaking, but decent story & eye-candy

There isn't anything too complex about this plot. Earth is at war with an alien species. We both have space travel, so most of this film takes place off-planet. In the future the military has taken videogames even more seriously than it already does. It picks potential pilots, strategists, etc. based on how well kids do at video games. It recruits promising ones to go through academy training. (The Last Starfighter used a similar concept for finding it's best pilots.)
The enemy is superior in most respects, and the adult leaders fear our next battle with them may result in a decisive defeat. We need to find a truly unique strategist who can make the best use of our space fleet as well as a newer weapon we hope the enemy is unprepared for. Of course Ender is the chosen kid.
The adult roles are somewhat lacking in originality, but the special effects are good, the action is fast -paced, and by the end, I found that I liked this film. If you enjoy science fiction (the kind with aliens, space travel/battles, etc.) then you will probably enjoy this film.

Heart Warming & VERY close to the way it happened

When you watch it, keep a tissue handy. Kurt Russel makes an amazing hockey coach, and the passion that the rest of the actors and actresses put into this true life story makes it as believable as if you were back in the time when it actually happened. I have a lump in my throat and glassy eyes even as I type this, because this movie brings back all the emotions I experienced when watching the "Miracle on Ice" live during the 1980 Winter Olympics!
Americans are bizarre people at times. We can be fat and lazy, preferring the easy way over the tough one for the most part, but don't get us riled up because history, as this movie re-enacts, proves that we are unstoppable when our strengths are awakened...
I have read reviews that criticize this movie as 'predictable.' Hello??? It is history--we already know what happened!!! This is Hollywood embellishment at its best: a movie as much about David beating Goliath as it is about the hearts, lives and sacrifices the players put into the win... If nothing else, I will be showing this movie to my grand kids as an important part of the history of this Nation.

Amusing, Twisty and Well Cast.

Lucky Number Slevin is one of those movies where the plot drives the characters rather than the other way around. The story concerns a seemingly innocent but very unlucky young man named Slevin (a surprisingly good Josh Hartnett) who is mistaken for someone else by two vicious gangsters who both think he owes them a lot of money. The first is "The Boss" played by a clearly-enjoying-himself Morgan Freeman. The second is "The Rabbi" (called that because he is a rabbi) played more seriously by Ben Kingsley. They are former partners turned enemies who live in penthouse apartments across the street from each other (which they never leave for fear of being killed).
Since the plot of Lucky Number Slevin is nearly the whole show, I won't reveal anything else, but this is extremely enjoyable if you like self-consciously clever crime films with snappy dialogue. Josh Hartnett and Lucy Lui turn out to be really good at delivering that dialogue--Lui's rapid-fire patter seems to be at least partly inspired by Rosalind Russell from "His Girl Friday" and the normally stern actress has never been looser or more likable than she is here.
The older vets--Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Ben Kingsley and Stanley Tucci--are all solid, although their characters are little more than chess pieces in the intricate plotting of Jason Smilovic's screenplay. A well written movie that will keep you guessing to the very end, it won the audience and best film (2006) awards at the Milano Film Festival.

This Mad Max Brings the Thunder

Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, while a bit of a different beast than the previous two Mad Max films, is able to stand with them in terms of action and spectacle as well as having deeper themes. This entry takes place several years after THE ROAD WARRIOR and has Max trekking the desert in a camel-drawn vehicle. After his vehicle and belongings are stolen, he makes his way to Bartertown, a city built in the aftermath of the apocalyps. It is run with an iron fist by a strange character known as Aunty (Tina Turner). Hoping to get his stuff back, he agrees to fight in Thunderdome. After getting kicked out of Bartertown back into the desert, he meets a group of children who are surviving the apocalypse in their own way.
The best thing about the film is that it fleshes out the world established in the previous two entries, as well as bring in some new elements. The most interesting of these new additions is the Thunderdome, a caged arena where participants fight to the death with whatever weapons are available. The car chases were also creative, and had excellent stunt work, but the Thunderdome really showcases the brutality of the post-apocalypse in a way that the other action sequences couldn't (or didn't). Also, even though it made the narrative slightly unwieldy, I did like the side-by-side comparison of Bartertown with the tribe of children that Max meets. The central theme or message of this film seemed to be about how civilization recovers from apocalyptic events. Bartertown does this by regressing back to an animalistic, violent, survival-of-the-fittest ethos, while the young tribe remains innocent in anticipation for the return of a distant, utopian past. Meanwhile, they hope for a better future. Thematically, this film stands head and shoulders above the previous two. Still, the way in which the narrative is drawn out makes the film a bit slow at times, which could turn off people who enjoyed the previous two for the non-stop action. Here, the bulk of the action is saved for the last 15-20 minutes, in a chase sequence that should please all the action junkies in the audience.

I love movies based on a true story. While this one won't win any awards for production value, the story itself is remarkable. If you like sports movies based on true stories this one should be watched.

Another great combination of action and humor with some of the best action stars in the business. I like the “New Blood” added to E3. They each have their strengths and each adds contrast to the veteran cast. Are they meant to replace the aging cast? Time will tell. It is easy to tell that a fun time was had by all: cast and crew, and especially the Director, and that remains true to this franchise. I thought it was a lot of fun too. It's not a movie you'll remember vividly the next day, nor is it going to leave you wondering why loose ends haven't been cleaned up. When the movie is over, the only thing it leaves room for is Expendables IV.

Awesome player! Supreme Audio quality

The video on this player is superb, but what's even more amazing is the audio quality!! I use the separate HDMI to port for audio out and it made a noticeable difference in my surround sound movies and music. (Note: quality HDMI interconnects rated for 4K are a must for maximum picture quality)
Ultimately, it depends on what you want/expect out of a 4K-UHD player versus what you’re paying. I bought it for just under $150, and it works flawlessly. Paired with my Vizio 65" Series P 4K TV the picture is amazing, and my audio equipment detected and switched over to DTS automatically.
If your concern is streaming from multiple apps, you’re limited to Netflix and You Tube, but any newer smart TV you would mate with this should have those additional apps to stream directly. Since this is a 2018 player, future software updates will probably add more apps, but only LG knows for sure. I highly recommend this player as both the audio and video have worked flawlessly for me.

Jack Palance, Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern & Bruno Kelly star in this classic movie, It's Jack Palance's Best Supporting Actor Oscar role! The story line is wonderful, and it has great casting! If you enjoy a movie that keeps you interested from the beginning to end, this is for you. A great film about three adventurous middle age friends who go on a cattle drive in celebration of Mitch's (Billy Crystal) birthday and discover more about what men they really are and want to be in life (plus some laughs and great quotes along the way). Yes, there is foul language, but it's appropriate to the story and the characters. The Bluray version is a definite upgrade over the original DVD copy.

What is the actual refresh rate? 120 or 60hz
The Vizio P65-E1 P-Series 65" Full Array LED Smart TV has a true native 120 Hz LED panel. This is currently the fastest native refresh rate for any LED display, regardless of manufacturer or stated refresh rates. The higher advertised refresh rates for most TVs are achieved using backlight flashing to mimic a higher refresh rate. This actually works quite well on most LED televisions and I alway recommend setting the Clear Action (or MotionFlow or whatever a TV maker calls it) to ON (or its highest setting). This really helps generate an image with more motion detail and smoothness when the screen displays an object in motion and a scene with camera panning.

Our 55” LG often drops signal when streaming Prime & Netflix. Looking to upgrade to the Vizio P-series 65”. How is the streaming quality/signal?
The Vizio P65-E1 P-Series 65" Full Array LED Smart TV that I purchased in Nov. 2018 never drops the signal and has had no problems streaming Netflix and Youtube (I do not have an Amazon Prime account). Be aware though that I have a high-end, high-speed multi-channel MIMO TP-Link router with beam forming and six antennas, and high-speed 150 Mbps fiber optic internet service. I can only say that with the right wireless router and high-speed internet, this TV works great!
