Excited to rewatch after getting this for Christmas, it holds up. An all-time classic that will scare you while making you empathize. Not going to get into the deep text of the film here, read professional analysis and critique for that but this is the movie that made horror aim its highest in terms of box office and critical appraisal. Quite a bar and this steelbook package is a great addition to my physical media collection.

A bright shining star in the MCU

The MCU has proven an effective umbrella for spreading comic book films across multiple genres, redefining the expectations for such adaptations. Captain Marvel brings new light to this effort, with a 90s buddy cop movie serving as Carol Danvers' origin story. Brie Larson is a powerhouse performer and delivers an eye popping performance imbuing the character with 90s lady attitude that brings Marvel pages to life. Looking forward to more from her in the MCU and her chemistry with other denizens. She and Jackson work easily together and lift the movie to exceeding heights. The steelbook packaging is a great collector's item, even if the artwork on the front is a bit understated.

The best Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back!

Rian Johnson has created a love letter to Empire Strikes Back in movie form. It mirrors Empire's arc and critical character development components, providing an excellent second act in a trilogy while providing a driving three act structure of its own. These characters don't map to the classic tropes in the same way, but it's fun to look at the decomposition that Johnson has done. The visual effects add to the homage feeling, with Rian relying on more practical fx than most big budget tentpoles would dare. The steelbook packaging is excquisite, a must for collectors.
