Sound/voice: every environment feels alive. Play with a high quality set of headphones to take advantage of the 360° recordings they made. The voices Senua hears throughout the game are very haunting and eerie. The actress who shares her likeness for the character Senua gave a brilliant performance. I loved those cutscenes where the camera is right up on her face and she gives it her all to convey this person going through some awful stuff.
Gameplay: I think this is where people might start differing in opinion. The game has a linear path to follow with some slight openness to it (think of the first Uncharted game). There’s some environmental puzzles you need to solve that can be challenging at times and some can get a little tedious. Another thing I’ve notice people complain about is the combat system. For me I quite enjoyed it. It’s simple, yes but it gets the job done. You’ve got to understand that this isn’t a God of War game (apart from maybe the visuals) where you’re chaining these combos up with some very punchy attacks. Hellblade is more of wait for an opportunity to strike, then strike. There’s an attack coming, dodge. With that said the way the camera is positioned, it all seems very cinematic and for me I enjoyed that.
So in conclusion if you like that Viking setting and want a good but dark and depressing tale pick this one up. It’s not a very long game but there’s enough to bite on.

I finally gave in and picked this one up. I got it on sale for $15 and for me that was worth it. I’ve never played a tactical turn based type game before so I was a little leery on purchasing it. I’ve never been a big fan of Rabbids so that was even more of a reason not to get it but honestly, I got a few chuckles out of those awful looking creatures. I heard there was a lot of things to collect in between battles and there totally is. You get to roam around in this almost Mario 3D World map collecting coins and opening chests that have anything from music to actual useful things like new weapons and what not. I also kind of appreciated the somewhat puzzle type environments to get from point A to point B. The battles themselves are rather fun. The game kind of holds your hand for a little bit then it gets a little tougher but nothing Dark Souls like. So I guess if your new to this turn based game try this one or maybe you already love these types of games I could see you liking this one too.

If you want to scratch that StarFox itch you got you should pick this up when it’s on sale. I got it for $23. I was a little concerned about the toys and having to use that hideous controller contraption but luckily you don’t have to. I literately popped the game it and grabbed my pro controller and started playing. All of the toys the starter pack comes with are already in the game ready to use. Back to the actual game, they’re some really REALLY annoying characters primarily the mouth breathing YouTube wanna be vloger but with enough will power I can look past that. The ship handles pretty well, the game honestly reminds me a lot of Destiny (mindless shooting/looting) mixed with No Man’s Sky (art style). The soundtrack was surprisingly good. It caught me off guard when this epic music starts playing when fighting bosses and what not but I totally welcome a good score. Like any Ubisoft game they’re filled to the brim of go here, collect that, go here, kill this, rinse and repeat. So yeah, if you miss playing as Fox McCloud pick this up. Oh, by the way Nintendo needs to start putting the full game of the carts but that’s a rant for another day.

For me I have a love hate relationship with AC games. My first one was Black Flag and I absolutely adored that one. Every now and again I hop back into it when I want to get that pirate fix. Ever since that one I’ve basically waited until the following games were on sale before buying them. It’s funny I own all of them Black Flag to Odyssey yet the only one I’ve finished was Black Flag and yet o keep buying them. Personally I feel like the best thing going for these games are the settings. It’s awesome to step into a world so foreign from the cesspool the world has become nowadays. Sure the combat it’s pretty decent for what they’re trying to go for but I sure do miss the old style a lot. Visually Odyssey is beautiful and the soundtrack puts you into that era’s vibe pretty well. With that said there’s always been something missing in these games and I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe it’s the overall story and me not really getting into it as much as other single player open world games or what. I look at let’s take Red Dead 2 or Spider-Man, I played and played and played those games without ever feeling like something was a chore. I even platinumed Spider-Man too. Honestly though I could be doing the most mundane thing yet I was still having a blast. In Odyssey I’m just struggling to enjoy it, I barely care about the story and our main characters. I don’t know I bought it for 15 bucks so I can’t be that mad at it but yeah I personally think I’m done with AC games from now on. I am however looking forward to a new Watchdogs!
Add this Nintendo Joy-Con to your Nintendo Switch console so friends can join in. Depending on the game, its two parts can be split or given to a second player, and it can be joined together or connected to the console for handheld play. Each part of this Nintendo Joy-Con has its own buttons, an accelerometer and a gyroscope for independent control.

For everything I like about the Joycons there’s 3 things I dislike about them. Much like most of Nintendo’s other controllers they all have their quirks. Personally I feel they’re a little too expensive for what they are. I never thought they were the most comfortable things out there either. I don’t mind the a symmetrical design when it comes to full size controllers like the pro controller or even the Xbox controller but for these I feel like they’re just too clustered. With that said I can adapt to that and eventually look past it. What really bothers me is the build quality. I’ve gone through 2 pairs of joycons and I primarily use the system docked with the pro controller. The Joycons are prone for stick drift and for 70-80 dollars controllers not even lasting a couple years with light use is disgusting. The last pair I bought I wised up and purchased the protection plan so when these break ( which they will ) I’ll swap them out and buy another protection plan.

So first off this was the first time I played this game, I guess it flew under my radar back in the day. Recently it caught my attention being a steal at $9.99. I looked a some reviews on YouTube and it immediately looked like something I would’ve played growing up. There’s something about these older action adventure games that hit home for me. If you’re going into this one for the first time know that this isn’t some passionate remaster like the recent Spyro. It’s still very much the same game as it was in 2003, but don’t let that detour you. Yes, the controls can be a little clunky at times and sure the puzzles can be a little frustrating but for me that’s apart of its charm. It doesn’t hold your hand either, so if you’re used to games that keep you on training wheels this one probably isn’t for you. Like I said, I snagged it for $10 at the time and for me that was without a doubt worth it.

Alien Isolation, Dead Space and Bioshock are some of my favorite games. I love Sci-Fi and anything space related. If any of those things intrigue you, do yourself a favor and check this one out. Another thing it has one of the most unique and refreshing enemy types I have ever seen.... or “didn’t see”. Lol
