I would say this is 100% worth it if you are utilizing a 2k or 4K display. Absolutely loving my experience so far.

I wanted to go the FTW3 route as well but in the end I don’t think it is really worth it. I’ve had 0 problems with temps. I’ve adjusted my fan curve a little to make it more preventative but on heavy loads and with a little overclock I sit right around 60 degrees which is perfectly fine.

Does this adapter get hot? I purchased one and it gets extremely hot just with HDMI.
Yep, mine gets really hot. Not sure why but it doesn't seem to be "unsafe." Just seems to be inefficient.
