great movie!!!!!

Dreamworks has been hit or miss when it comes to releasing great animated films over the years. Whether it's Shrek or Kung Fu Panda, there some truly great movies out there, but I once How to Train Your Dragon hit theatres, and each of its consecutively great sequels, I found myself wondering if the studio had peaked with that trilogy. Well, Abominable is their latest upcoming release, and after seeing it at the Toronto International Film Festival, I can confidently say that this is surprisingly one of the very best animated films that they have released, ever. Everyone knows that the creature known as the Yeti has been known to be a myth, but in Abominable, a young girl (Yi) finds that one actually exists. Having been experimented on in laboratories until escaping and finding its way onto this girl's roof, she befriends him and makes it her mission, along with two other friends, to return him to his home on mount Everest. This particular story has been told hundreds of times, but unlike many movies that choose to copy and paste formulas, Abominable is one that truly cares about the characters and the adventure they go on, which had me falling in love with it as it progressed. Having written the story for Monster's Inc., worked in the animation department at Pixar on Toy Story and Toy Story 2, eventually directing her first animated feature in Open Season, and now officially writing and directing Abominable, completely bringing her full vision to life, Jill Culton is one with a storied career, albeit not massive. After her outing here, I must admit that I will be following her work for years to come because I believe her vision and how it was showcased, was honestly fantastic. On top of that, Dreamworks has been on a roll with incredible animation, and this movie is nothing shy of fitting that description. It should go without saying nowadays that most films released by large studios will probably hire the best of the best to create the most beautiful animation, but I just have to commend them here as well. The smooth motions of characters and the detail put into the wide landscape shots are all superb, and these elements are only elevated by a very enjoyable cast of characters, on an adventure that eventually had me in tears. If for nothing else, you'll probably enjoy looking at this movie, but it has much more than that to offer. In the end, Abominable does suffer from feeling familiar at first glance, but this movie embraces that and creates a journey that feels fresh. The themes throughout this film are meant for all ages, which is why I believe this movie will be a hit with families across the world when it hits theatres. I wasn't exactly jumping out of my seat with excitement when the trailers for this movie first began to circulate, but after experiencing it for myself, I must say that Abominable definitely surprised me in ways that I wasn't expecting. This is a great animated film and it deserves attention when it hits theatres.

One of my favorite's from Tarantino! It's cleverly edited together in a classic Tarantino style where the story is non-linear and revealed slowly throughout the film. The acting is amazing, the characters are fun and likeable, and the writing is overall hysterical and intriguing. It's a fantastic portrayal of the time period and place that the movie is really about, and I recommend it to any movie goer whether your a fan of Tarantino's or not.

Sufficiently scarier than the first, and I like that they changed the ending, at least from what I know the ending to be from the miniseries (never read the book). There's also one change in death from the miniseries. Agree with others that it's too long, probably by 20 minutes easy. That said, I still don't think they went far enough into the Pennywise backstory as they could have. They give you a couple teases, but that's it.

This is one of the best Tetris games of all time. It is a mix between Fortnite and the puzzle game Tetris. It isn’t actually great and should be tried by every Switch owner.

A rare sequel that runs circles around its predecessor. Angry Birds' second instalment is funnier, more thoughtful and bucket loads more fun than the first, making for a family-friendly animated adventure well worth its 100 minute runtime —- its all-star voice cast doesn't hurt either! Iroh's grade: B

This is around the 5th time Ive seen Corpse Bride and I could say that I proffer it even more then the last time I watched it. Corpse Bride is directed by Tim Burton one of my personal all time favourite directors. Corpse Bride stars Johnny Depp as Victor Van Dort and Helena Bonham Carter as the Corpse Bride. The voice acting was steady and I found that the voice actors fit the characters they were portraying. The voice cast also has such actors as Christopher Lee as the Pastor and Emily Watson as Victoria Everglot. There was a couple times the voice acting didnt work but for most of the film the voice actors gave a good performance. The characters were fun and interesting to watch each with there own personality. I especially liked Victor and how he is always jumpy and scared of what comes next. The cinematography I found worked with the film and helped with the style of the film. The animation in the film is stop motion which I personally love. The animation is smooth and has a unique style to it. The animation also fits the characters very well. There is two settings for the film one a bleak colourless world and the other a colourful and vibrant world for the undead. I personally proffer the bleak world because of the atmosphere it gives off. The style in my opinion is exemplary and has some of my favourite character designs from any animated film I have seen up to this point. I also very much like the colour design from the black grey and blue to the bright green and psychedelic pink. Good and steady dialogue that fits the characters very nicely. Even though my favourite scenes are the ones with very little to none dialogue I still very much like the scenes that are dialogue heavy. Steady editing with some very interesting edits. The film involves two types of music from the background sound track to the musical soundtrack. I personally proffer the background soundtrack composed by Danny Elfman. The songs in the film arent bad but there not always on point. Weird and Unique story about a man (Victor) marring a corpse Bride by accident. The story is steady and always keeps me interested in the characters and whats about to happen next. The film also has some comedy that personally makes me laugh now and again. The film also at points has a very strong atmosphere especially a scene where it involves Victor talking to Victoria when the Corpse Bride shows up at the window. The film is also very enjoyable and entertaining to watch. There are a couple things I personally dont like but they dont take away from the film to much.

What happens when the limelight no longer satisfies the ego? How do we mitigate our inherent talents with our societal expectations? Does inspiration come from within, or are we simply regurgitating our influences? These questions and many more are constantly posited by Walt Disney's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (inspired by actual Tim Burton/Danny Elfman cartoons/whistling). In this gorgeous live action film, an anorexic fascist opera singer slips into ennui after his annual ego-stroking festival is put on by Bauhaus cosplay enthusiasts. Meanwhile, a young woman with self-harm issues gets her Hannibal Lecter/Dr. Strangelove father drunk so she can stalk her village's narcissistic, singing leader and comment to herself about his manic and nihilistic ruminations. After hallucinating from a lack of sleep (and possibly nutrition), the thin white duke decides to co-opt the culture of a utopian winterland. His bleak, gothic perspective lends a jaded and violent hue to the simulacra he constructs. Ultimately, he orchestrates highly organized terrorist attacks on the children of American citizens during the Christmas holiday season - which provokes a military response. Failing in his quest for power, he settles for a mundane coupling with his silent female watcher and relegates himself to the amenities of mediocrity back in his small dysfunctional village. The subtleties of the human condition in this film would make Werner Herzog weep. Even the most jaded heart must realize the marketing potential of this film. It is, however, odd that it would only be released for two viewings on Halloween. It's a bold move, but I imagine that the modern viral nature of art will ensure that this will see a DVD release after its very brief and limited theatrical run. If not, I suppose I will feel smug enough in being one of the few and fortunate folks to have seen this film unfettered by mainstream success.

One of the best children's movies in recent memory for sure. The stop motion is charming and the decision to have it made in black and white was for the best. Tim Burton's signature style is latent throughout the entirety of the run time and with that comes odd character models and scary looking creatures that play off of the classic Frankenstein narrative. It touches on the death of a beloved pet and well that's a heavy subject to get across to kids, but it does it a way that should help young children understand what it is without frightening them (the scares come from the creatures). A real cute watch if looking for a more unorthodox movie to show the young ones.

Nicholson is unbelievable in this role, probably his best performance ever. Scenes linger for long creating a very creepy atmosphere. Every actor is top notch but Danny Llyod delivers one of the great child actor performances. The score is haunting and memorable. Also needless to say but Kubrick's direction is masterful. I prefer the 2 hour European cut to the 2 and half hour American version because it is almost completely set in The Overlook Hotel and feels more claustrophobic.
