This reboot of Mortal Kombat is a remarkable start to hopefully, a new franchise with great fight scenes, good character development, and even a little bit of fun. All the elements are here, paying tribute to the video game franchise and original films while also exploring some new territory with amazing blood and guts along the way. The 4K UHD with HDR10 looks amazing and the Dolby Atmos track is phenomenal. There are some great extras as well. Highly Recommended.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World is a hilarious modern-day cult classic. While I wish it’d gotten more recognition upon its initial release, I’m glad that it’s developed a loyal legion of fans. It was a delight to go to midnight screenings when I lived in Denver and see the audience get a little more crowded each screening. It’s a visual and sonic delight and unlike anything else out there. Wright really knocked it out of the park here and I consider it his best movie thus far.
Universal gives Scott Pilgrim vs The World an extra life thanks to a genuinely excellent 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release. Even sourced from a 2K DI, this Dolby Vision transfer is a notable improvement over its 1080p counterpart with a highly immersive Dolby Atmos mix to match. Bonus features may be the same batch as before but they’re all very informative and worth the time to pick through. Grab your sword of self-respect and upgrade! Highly Recommended

Wrath Of Man is a different kind of Guy Ritchie film that is slower-paced and doesn't contain the usual humor found in his previous gangster-action flicks. Starring Jason Statham, it's pretty straight and narrow and doesn't even feature any quick cuts. This isn't necessarily a bad thing since there are some long tracking shots of brutality to see, but all of the fun is missing from this dramatic action movie. Warner Bros. has basically thrown this Blu-ray release in the garbage, at least in this stateside release due to the lack of a Dolby Atmos track, no 4K release, and absolutely ZERO bonus features. There's no reason for it. Rent It Cheap for Statham.
A department pariah since he rolled over on a corrupt partner a decade earlier, detective Zeke Banks (Chris Rock) got saddled with a grisly subway murder-and he'd discover the perpetrator to be a copycat of the infamous Jigsaw. As the body count grew, he'd discover the victims' stunning linkage-and have to figure out how to end the carnage. Anticipated InchSawInch spin-off co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols; director Darren Lynn Bousman makes his franchise return. 93 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English.

Spiral: From The Book Of Saw is a fantastic addition to the Saw franchise that delivers some much-needed comedy and a new and different direction from the previous eight films, while at the same time, sticking to the overall point and entertainment factor of everything that came before. One can hope for more films with the cast and crew that explore the future exploits of Spiral. This 4K UHD release has an amazing video presentation, a killer Dolby Atmos track, and some informative and interesting extras. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Film buffs can argue about whether Vertigo ranks as Alfred Hitchcock's finest film, but everyone will agree this haunting study of obsession, transformation, and betrayal is the crown jewel in Universal's Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection. Eye candy can't begin to describe the breathtakingly beautiful 4K UHD HDR10 presentation that immerses us in the intrigue that engulfs a retired San Francisco police detective when an old college buddy asks him to tail his mentally disturbed wife. James Stewart and Kim Novak ignite the screen, but Hitchcock is the true star of this elegant thriller that celebrates the director's ingenuity and artistry. The new DTS:X track supplies potent audio and all the extras from previous Blu-rays have been ported over to this release. Vertigo is an enduring masterpiece, and though you may have seen it before, you've never seen it like this. Must Own.

Hope springs eternal, and The Shawshank Redemption remains an eternally great film. The emotionally affecting tale of an unlikely but abiding friendship spawned in a brutal Maine prison features a host of memorable characters, an array of important themes, several fine performances, and sensitive direction by Frank Darabont, and it looks spectacular in the splendor of 4K HDR. A robust, brand new DTS-HD MA soundtrack complements the gorgeous, razor-sharp transfer that makes this riveting adaptation of Stephen King's acclaimed short novel feel more immediate and immersive than ever before. If you're a fan of this unforgettable neo-classic - or if you haven't seen it before - you need to add this impressive disc to your collection. Must Own.
One Christmas in Camelot, the revels were interrupted by a hulking, emerald-skinned knight (Ralph Ineson), who dared anyone present to lay a blow on him... as long as he got to strike back a year later. The king's impetuous nephew Gawain (Dev Patel) met the challenge-and after the intruder improbably survived, faced a fateful journey to meet his end of the bargain. David Lowery's stylish, subversive take on the Arthurian tale co-stars Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris. 130 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Two-disc set.

The Green Knight is a truly memorable and one-of-kind film and only furthers the genius and remarkable artistic eye of director David Lowery. His vision of this old poetic tale is some kind of wonderful and gets better with each viewing. The 4K with Dolby Vision video presentation is top-notch and a step above the already great 1080p HD version and the Dolby Atmos track is demo-worthy. The few extras are all worthwhile as well. This is a MUST-OWN release.

Home Alone is a nostalgic holiday classic. It's become a generational favorite as the kids that first saw this movie in theaters now have kids and are introducing it to their brood. With the fun mix of child-focused comedy hijinks and the playful game performances from participants like Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern make this movie. Every kid wanted to be left home alone after this movie - at least I did - because who wouldn't want to have the run of the house and do whatever they wanted? As Home Alone celebrates its 30th Anniversary, it's now getting a grand upgrade to 4K UHD Blu-ray from Disney. The new transfer offers a notable improvement over previous releases, but without a new audio mix or any new bonus features, it may be a tough sell for those who already have bought this title countless times over the decades. However, if you're itching for a new 4K disc this holiday season, you should be happy with the results. Recommended.
In 1979, a group of small-town Ohio teenagers accidentally films a train wreck while making a Super 8 movie. The sudden arrival of the military and a series of bizarre occurrences prompt the kids to conduct their own investigation, leading them into the middle of a government cover-up of an extraterrestrial that crashed over 20 years earlier. But is the alien visitor friend or foe? Joel Courtney, Elle Fanning, Kyle Chandler star in this sci-fi thriller from writer/director J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg. 111 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks English Dolby TrueHD 7.1, DVS, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles English (SDH), French; featurettes; audio commentary; deleted scenes.

Taking inspiration from a variety of 80s cinematic tropes, J.J. Abram's Super 8 remains a terrifically entertaining sci-fi adventure that also feels like an homage to the monster disaster movies of the 50s and 60s. And what ultimately makes the film work a decade later is a heartwarming tale of friends coping with grief and loss when family fails. Paramount Home Entertainment celebrates the film's 10th Anniversary on 4K Ultra HD with a strong Dolby Vision HDR presentation that offers an appreciable yet minor uptick over it Blu-ray predecessor. The same, demo-worthy Dolby TrueHD mix and the same set of supplements as before are also ported over for this UHD edition, and in the end, the overall package still makes for a recommended, if also somewhat reluctantly, upgrade.
