Easily Guy Ritchie’s best film to date, Snatch remains a delightfully pitch-black crime comedy. With a huge cast of colorful characters, Ritchie manages a lot of plot threads and tangents with deft ease giving you more than a few reasons to go back and enjoy the film for multiple viewings. Sony gives Snatch a fitting upgrade to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray that established fans should appreciate - but the uninitiated may not see or hear what the fuss is all about. The native 4K transfer offers modest appreciable improvements with an Atmos mix that doesn’t blow out your sound system but instead offers some nice subtle tweaks. If you’re a fan looking to upgrade or make a first purchase, it’s certainly a quality disc but maybe not the one to pull out and demo your rig - Recommended.

Andrew Niccol's cautionary tale Gattaca imagines a bleak future where one's life is fated from birth, but the story never really puts the ethics of scientific progress to task or fully embraces the darkly bitter tragedy of its conceit. Nevertheless, thanks to the excellent performances, strong characters and gorgeous stage design, the sci-fi drama remains a beloved favorite after twenty years. Coming from a fresh remaster, the dystopian sci-fi vision worms its way to Ultra HD with a beautiful 4K HDR10 video and an excellent Dolby Atmos soundtrack, a genetically superior presentation over its HD brethren. Porting over the same set of supplements from its Blu-ray predecessor, the overall UHD package is recommended.

Littered with the sort of spectacular visuals and sensational thrills we'd expect from such a popcorn spectacle, Godzilla vs. Kong is a surprisingly satisfying installment to the franchise. Although thin on plot and characterization, the monster flick nonetheless works and delivers on the blockbuster spectacle promised, making it the enjoyable mindless escapism needed after a year of lockdowns and closed theaters. The iconic monsters wreak absolute havoc on 4K Ultra HD with a notably gorgeous Dolby Vision HDR presentation and a phenomenal, reference-quality Dolby Atmos soundtrack. With a rather disappointing collection of bonuses, the overall UHD package nonetheless makes a recommended addition to the library.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is a sequel that exists to amp up all the elements from the first film while shedding some light on who those two great characters were that everyone came to love. Hayek and Banderas were excellent additions to the cast and it was great to see them on screen together once again. The 4K presentation with Dolby Vison looks great and the Dolby Atmos track is demo-worthy. There are some fun extras, but nothing too important. Overall, this is a fun 4K release. Recommended!

Writer/director Taika Waititi (director of THOR RAGNAROK and HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE) brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JOJO RABBIT, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. In spite of his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Waititi), Jojo confronts his blind nationalism.

Jojo Rabbit is a ridiculous film but it's earnest and sincere at the same time. It's a poignant comedic satire that's also an honest dramatic tragedy. The film works tirelessly to remind the audience that love is far easier in life than hate. The cast is wonderful, the energy is magnetic, the writing and directing witty and sharp. It walks a thin line with comedy, but it's a delightfully human film that never loses itself.
Jojo Rabbit races to 4K UHD Blu-ray with an often beautiful 4K UHD with HDR10 transfer, an effective audio track, and a decent assortment of bonus features. 2019 was packed with great movies and this was in the top tier of the year. Highly Recommended.

Based on the real-life rivalry at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans race, James Mangold's Ford v Ferrari is a sensationally stirring sports drama that accelerates from 0-60mph in the opening moments and maintains top speed until crossing the finish line. Starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, Mangold's biopic of the two visionary engineers responsible for defeating Ferrari thrills with the same kinetic energy as the championship racing sequences. The film races through the Ultra HD speedways powered by an extraordinary 4K HDR10 presentation and superb, reference-quality Dolby Atmos soundtrack, showcasing a notable upgrade over its Blu-ray model. Although featuring a rather disappointing selection of bonuses, the overall UHD SteelBook package is nonetheless highly recommended.

Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a brazen, unabashed love letter to the Golden Age of Hollywood at the cusp of an impending film renaissance and a sudden shift in American culture. Using the unfortunate tragedy of Sharon Tate at the hands of Charles Manson's cult followers, the plot follows a former TV western star and his best-friend stuntman faced with the radical changes ahead while saturated in a tense sense of doom.
The glitz and glamor of Tinseltown premieres on 4K Ultra HD with a magnificently glamorous HDR10 presentation offering a welcomed upgrade over its Blu-ray counterpart and a marvelously satisfying DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack. Featuring a disappointingly small but nonetheless enjoyable set of supplements, the overall UHD package is highly recommended for Tarantino devotees and makes for a spectacular addition to the library.
