A long-deserved revival

Filmmaker Don Coscarelli made his reputation with this low-budget horror film (as well as several sequels). It's not a classic, but it's got some fun stuff, notably the performance of Angus Scrimm as the Tall Man and the lethal flying metal spheres. A fun horror flick.

If you can get past the sheer preposterous idea that nobody recognizes Black Lightning despite the character's distinctive beard and facial features, Black Lightning is actually quite watchable TV series. Although it's based on a lesser known DC comic book series, it doesn't tie in with the other CW shows, and as a result has created a unique tone all its own.

Arrow remains a mostly dependable series, but as with other DC series that follow the big bad route, devoting the better part of a season to the ongoing battle with Ricardo Diaz is a bit too much. Diaz is hardly painted as a criminal genius, and yet he manages to outwit Oliver and his contemporaries at every turn, which really minimizes their effectiveness as characters. A real shame, and some missed opportunities as a result.

Several seasons in, The Flash is still eminently watchable, most likely because of the ingenuousness of it lead actor and cast. With the possible exception of Tom Cavanaugh's character (or characters, who are beyond annoying and not funny at all), there are wonderful moments for each of the key characters, although it would be nice to try and do a couple of mini-arcs instead of one long story.
