This film is serviceable. Malek is relatively solid as Mercury.
The problem is everything else. The script is average, the order of events is vastly incorrect and manipulative, and the editing is atrocious. This movie was brought to audience-acclaim because of a vast love for the band and music; causing so many to ignore the glaring problems with the film itself. Such a shame.

Spike Lee returns to the forefront of what he does best, showing the people a side of their own culture that they would rather turn from. Bringing the life the story of Ron Stallworth and his covert operation to infiltrate the KKK, Lee paints a funny, poignant, and unflinching picture of race relation through the lens of those that are called upon to enforce the law and those that feel it is their god-given right to dictate it by birthright and pigmentation. The editing is a bit sloppy and the sound mixing can be a bit distracting, but the story and its importance can not be denied.

Another great installment by Disney/Marvel and a wonderful new step into superherodom for a misuser community. The strength lies in the hero and the villain. Chadwick Boseman returns as T’Challa and continues with the story of a young man, having lost his father, thrust into the throne and faced with major choices on how to lead. Michael B. Jordan truly shines as the multi-layered Eric Killmonger; a mercenary and freedom fighter with a dark past and dark vision to free the oppressed. The score, costume design, and production design are, by far, the best parts of this film. They feel vibrant, original, and alive. The visual effects have some issues at times (especially at the end), and the film, like so many Marvel films before it, puts a nice bow on the ending (which feels too easy). Overall, though - this is a film not to miss!

Jack Black and Cate Blanchett keep this film from being a total disaster. The story is painfully obvious and cliché-ridden, the pacing is manic, and the young Owen Vaccaro is just too much (though one could fairly argue that Eli Roth’s direction had something to do with that...). All in all? You can skip this one.

This was very fun to experience. Ignoring all sequels to the original, this new crew decides to tell their own sequel 40 years later; catching up with our main characters while introducing new ones with a new take on the slasher genre. Curtis is fantastic and the take on female empowerment against their attacker/abuser is not lost on this viewer. The ending falls a bit short but on the whole? A solid ‘new’ chapter for Michael and Laurie.

This is a great, and detailed achievement in the cinematic depiction of the journey to space and inevitably, the moon. Focusing on Neil Armstrong as he embarks on the mission with other NASA officers to get America to the lunar surface before the soviets. Chazelle’s direction is top-notch, atmospheric, and stirring. The actors and acting are solid. Unfortunately, it just misses the mark on emotional connection. We understand that Armstrong was a stoic and simple man who didn’t put his emotions in the way of what was in front of him... that just doesn’t work too well cinematically though...
