Dektops can support faster CPUs, as power is not so much an issue, and faster disks. The RAM and ROM speeds are completely comparable, although you may see higher RAM bus speeds on a Desktop. Speed is a pyramid, starting with CPU clock, then bus speeds, Cache speeds, RAM speeds and disk speeds. But when starting a system or app, that is exactly backward: since everything is on disk initially, disk speed tends to dominate. Not seek speed, although that is nice, especially if the files are not optimally defragmented, but spindle speed, not only for low latency but as a contributor to data flow rate.
