A blender is one of those appliances nearly everyone has, but only some can appreciate. People that make smoothies, frozen drinks, slushies, purees, or milkshakes will always have more of an affinity of the functional prowess of a good blender. The Ninja Blender Duo is best described using that same term, ‘functional prowess’. Ninja claims it has 20% faster blade speed and 30% more functionality than its previous model.
This blender is packaged nicely – about what I’ve come to expect from Ninja products. Bright white box, high contrast pictures with a cardboard protected device inside a clear plastic bag. Based on the weight of the device, the cardboard mold seems efficient to protect the device if it was mishandled for some reason. Unboxing the blender immediately reveals a well-constructed appliance. It is made of plastic, but high quality with a substantial weight and feel. Very simple control panel with minimal buttons. It is an attractive appliance and should look nice in most kitchens. The next thing that pops out is the 2 single serve cups included with spouted lids and an extractor lid – this is a real nice-to-have.
Next, I put it in my blender spot on the counter, and I noticed the suction cups on the legs. This was fantastic, as it helps keep the blender secure when removing the pitcher, which is secured with a strong quarter turn locking mechanism. Turn it on and the entire panel lights up. Load it, lock the lid, and lock in the pitcher – it’s ready. I like smoothies. I press the smoothie button and the Blender Duo does a couple of pulse spins, then begins to blend until it senses completion or I stop it. This is where the Auto IQ technology comes in. You can basically tap the button and expect the perfect result. My experience? Well, it doesn’t disappoint. I actually stopped the blender early on occasion, and that brings me to the power claims. I didn’t have a Ninja blender or extractor prior to this, although I have other products, so I really can’t compare it to assess their claims. I can say it makes my former blender, notice I said former, seem like a junior substitute device. It does not mess around, literally and figuratively. The Ninja Blender Duo lives up the Professional Plus label on the box!
Do you want one? Heck yeah! If you aren’t a smoothie, frozen drink person this thing may help change that. It is powerful, easy to use, consistent, and easy to clean. Throw in the 2 single serve cups where you and a companion can make different smoothie concoctions, blend them, put a cap on and go… It’s a can’t miss.

Hard to not appreciate good, clean air. A few years ago, my wife brought home a small air filter for our bedroom. She is a light sleeper, so she immediately noticed it helped me breathe better while sleeping – yes, less snoring. Even the dog was happy with it, as it seemed to help him as he dealt with a heart and lung condition as well.
Never heard of Blueair before getting their Classic 605. I have been thinking about the air quality on the main floor of my house for quite some time, and this thing should be a viable solution for the large open areas covering about 3 ½ rooms.
I’m a bit of a package guy. The way products are packaged gives me a feel for how much the manufacturer values their product, and whether they care about the impression made on the customer. The Classic came in a decent package – nothing fancy. It was well protected with Styrofoam with a clear plastic bag covering the unit. The first thing that jumped out at me was the weight – it is substantial. I actually turned it over to slide it out of the box. Once completely unwrapped, the device is elegant. It’s a little larger than I thought, but it has an attractive package. There are wheels on the bottom, and they roll very smoothly. The device has a small door on top hiding the controls. I thought this was an excellent design decision, preventing easy access to kids.
It’s pretty easy to get the Classic 605 up and running – plug it in and done. It lights up, and you are ready to go. There is a wifi button/indicator, a fan controller, and a filter indicator. You can use this device without wifi connectivity or app control – just tap the fan button, and it starts. The fan has 4 settings/3 speeds – off, low, med, high. When set to low, you can barely hear it, and I mean that in the sense that you won’t hear it over standard room noise – movement, talking, AC blowing, etc. I actually leaned in to verify it was on; it was. There is a distinct difference in the decibel level of speeds 1 and 2, and 2 and 3 for that matter. You can hear the fan on level 2 without trying to listen, and at level 3, let’s just say cue the mini jet. It’s not terrible, but depending on what you are doing, it will be a distraction. This is where the app shows its merit. You can schedule your Blueair to turn on and off when you want. You can control fan speed before and after, lighting brightness, and reoccurring events – pretty good stuff. If you wanted to prepare a room, so to speak, you could have the fan blow on high for a period before arriving home, then have it reduce to low while you go about your business in your living space. Another cool feature of the app is the air quality index. It displays air quality index for your area, with a map to boot. It also measures dust particle, carbon, and sulfur levels. It will take some time to get a feel for how accurate these are, but I must say this is a lot of cool information considering the reason behind purchasing this type of device is to improve air quality in your home.
Should you buy one? I say if you want clean air in a large area, it’s tough to beat. It’s decent looking with a somewhat functional design, quiet but powerful, and has welcome app integration. Add air quality metrics and measurements and scheduling, and you have quite the solution. Granted, I haven’t looked into the entirety of the app functionality, but I’m pleased with what I’ve seen. Besides, in the end it’s about clean air, and this does the job and some.

I have had a plethora of printers and all-in-ones over the years. Most have been inkjet and only one laser printer. No matter how “good” it seems a printer is, after so long, it seems you want more out of it. The biggest thing for me is performance in 2 key areas: print quality and scanning. Of course, speed is a factor in both, but quality is number 1. This leads me to the HP Laser Jet Pro MFP, and the question of why I haven’t purchased more laser printers.
This first thing I noticed about this printer was its size and weight. If you are accustomed to the standard inkjet all-in-one office solutions, this baby may seem a bit hefty. Picking up the box gives an immediate indication of the weight. It’s packaged very well, as you may expect, and includes standard fare for usage. It’s taller than a lot of the compact office inkjet printers, but it has about the same footprint. You can typically put this in the same space you would any other printer. Makes me feel HP thought of this when designing it. This was important for me because my printer space is limited and set to only fit for a printer, period. If you’re like most, printers have a spot, so to speak. This fits my spot.
Setup was easy. The printer has a nice color display, a decent sized paper tray, a more than adequate document feeder, and pretty handsome overall look. Of course, it allows wireless network connection, but it also has an ethernet port and an old school USB printer port. You can connect in any way you do today, with the exception of the old school pin port. I like the flexibility because I have had cases where I needed to print something from older devices. Printing speed and quality on this laser printer is fantastic. It has been my experience that when all things are equal, inkjet printers produce better document quality. This printer seems to test that thought. Image quality was good to very good but considering the speed at which the HP MFP prints documents, it’s outstanding. This thing can put out about 10-15 seconds in around a half minute or so, and it does so with very good image quality. It also has solid scanning capabilities. Scans are clear, with crisp, detailed document reproduction. It recognizes dual sided documents in the feeder, and will automatically copy them as such. Cool stuff.
I really like the HP Laser Jet Pro MFP and recommend anyone looking for an all-in-one to try it! It’s a very capable all-in-one device. It also has fax capabilities, but I don’t even have an analog phone line in my house. The only “negative” about it is purchasing replacement toner cartridges. That alone will deter some from taking the plunge – laser ain’t cheap. Don’t be deterred; you may find that the life of the toner will offset the difference in cost by buying less frequently. My advice is to give this one a spin. When it starts spitting out consistently beautifully printed docs at a very respectable speed, you will be happy you did.

Tax season can feel like a burden. Having an accountant or preparer can make a huge difference, but definitely hits the wallet significantly. A good tax software is an option that can supplement having a preparer. H&R Block offers a great opportunity to get a preparer’s expertise and touch while doing your own taxes.
Installation is simple and follows standard fare, and the software functions smoothly. As someone who has used tax preparation software often, I find the H&R Block software to pretty much follow suit. It guides you through the preparation process using a guided questionnaire, capturing your data and seamlessly preparing the tax return. When you run into the more wordy line items on your return, H&R Block provides detailed explanations to bring clarity and somewhat educate the user. The state return incurred an additional cost, serving as the only surprise during use.
I recommend H&R Block tax prep software for simple and somewhat complex returns. It’s very easy to use and gives a sense of confidence in the preparation process.

Recording quality audio seems to be moving toward a niche crowd. I mean, everyone uses phones for everything now – audio, video, photos. In cases where you really want to capture a great audio piece, the Samson Satellite microphone may be just what the doctor ordered.
The packaging on the Satellite is pretty straight forward – average box and protection. Once you get it out and take your first glance at it, you may feel you are dealing with some sort of futuristic or fictional device. I’ve gotta admit, the first thing I thought about was the handle on Blade’s sword in the Wesley Snipes movies. SMH! It’s a good-looking microphone, very shiny and slim when compared to others. It is also very lightweight. I have owned and taken a look at other USB microphones, and the Satellite is much smaller and lighter than all of them – and I think that’s a good thing. The Satellite has 3 legs which are used to form a tripod-like stand. These legs conveniently fold into the body of the microphone for easy storage. It’s designed to be more mobile/portable, and I think Samson has done an admirable job achieving that goal from a physical/footprint standpoint. Also in the box is a USB(A) cable and a lightning cable. What’s not in the box is a bag or carrying case for the Satellite. That’s disappointing, considering this was designed to be used on the go. You will have to do something to protect it from scratches and rubs when carrying it around. One thing to note: don’t throw away the box! The box has the serial number – needed to download free music software from motu.com.
Connect the Satellite to a Windows PC, and it’s instantly ready for use. Didn’t even need to download drivers or anything – just plug it in, wait for Windows to recognize and add the device… Done. Really simple, and a welcome feeling that I haven’t had the pleasure of enjoying with other USB microphones. The Samson Satellite performs well too. The device is well balanced and stable on its tripod. The tripod also allows the microphone to be tilted at an angle. It has unidirectional, bidirectional, and omnidirectional recording, and recordings are very clear and crisp. It works well with iOS too, but also works with Android – need a USB-C adapter, of course. I was a little concerned about the possible performance from the Satellite due to its size and light weight, but it really performs well, producing quality recordings. The on-the-go podcaster and live recording capture artist will be well pleased with this device’s flexibility and performance.
Anyone looking for a portable USB microphone that’s small, flexible, and performs well should stop looking right here. You can start looking for a bag or carrying case though – you’ll need it.

With the TV market moving more and more toward 4K, everyone is looking for the best option for their situation, taking into account size, performance, and of course, price. Hisense offers a decent product at a fantastic price.
The H8F comes in your standard packaging and is well protected. This is important because I have seen cases where televisions had less than desirable protection allowing for damaged corners. Of course, you will have to assemble the television prior to use. Attaching the stand is pretty straightforward. For my use case, I would be mounting the TV on the wall. Well, to my disdain, the HF8 did not have pre-drilled or even pre-sunk female threaded holes in back of the TV. This was very disappointing. I had to drill holes and find self-tap screws to fit the application. When drilling holes, I had to be extremely careful not to damage internals by drilling too deep – this was a bit scary. Also, remember, your screws need to be long enough to attach the mount arms securely, but short enough to prevent damaging internals. The TV is light and that’s a good thing considering the mounting situation.
When you start the HF8, you will be guided through setup of the TV via a wizard. This is an Android TV, and it will need updating initially. The TV seems to have an average processor, so expect it to take a little bit of time to update. The interface is very easy to use and efficient. There are some apps installed by default, which will probably require updating as well, but you will need to install other apps for your personal use. The HF8 has a good picture for the price. With a little adjusting, you can get a great picture for both HD and 4K content. The HF8 also has ARC, so my Fire Stick was easily recognized and controlled using the remote. There are TVs that cost 3 times as much as that don’t have this functionality. Great job by Hisense.
Overall, it’s hard not recommend this TV. It is very well priced, has a great picture, supports ARC, and has the power of Android TV at its base. The installation issues aside, it’s an enjoyable television experience.

Most of the time, when people hear the term “photoshop”, they immediately tend to think of professional level photo editing software that most serious photographers and media editing professionals use. We all desire the results of professional media editors when we edit our own photos, but how many of us are confident in using the more sophisticated tools?
Elements brings users a solution that’s geared more toward the casual photo editing enthusiast. Installation is very simple, and the interface is basic at its root. You essentially have a quick mode, a wizard or tutorial mode, and expert mode. The beauty here is that you can achieve great results in quick mode. The tutorial mode serves as more of a teacher than anything else, and expert mode is geared toward those that have a bit of experience in photo editing – effects, layering, filtering, etc. The interface is very user friendly and easy to use, and the results are fantastic.
I highly recommend Photoshop Elements. It’s flexible, making it a useful solution to both the casual user and those that are a tad more advanced, and it produces terrific results.

I really don’t know how else to say it, so I’ll just say it: adding ceiling speakers to your existing home theater will take it to the next level.
What better way to do it than with a pair of Sonance 8 inch beauties. Upon unpackaging the speakers from the box, your first reaction may be to the size and weight of them. They are big, and they are heavy. I immediately began to ponder the ceiling sheetrock supporting them. Yes, they feel and are that heavy. The key to proper installation, besides following the instructions, is using the template properly. The speakers essentially slide into the hole cut using the provided template. Make sure you have the proper tools when cutting the hole in the sheetrock. I recommend cutting by hand from the center using a sheetrock saw. Once you slide the speaker in the hole, there are screws which twist a clamp in position to secure the speaker to the sheetrock. If you’ve installed wall speakers or other ceiling speakers, you should be very familiar with this design approach. It is very important not to overtighten the clamp screws. Of course, you need to run speaker wire from your receiver – of course you know that if you made this purchase. Placement is also important. I have a 7.2 channel system. Having rear and surround speakers, the best place for these is between those distances, but closer to the rear speakers. If you have a 5.1 system, I suggest a location nearly on top of the preferred seating location for your theater setup.
Well, enough of that. How do they sound. In a word, WOW! Not only is the sound full, with fantastic range, but very powerful, deep, and rangy. These speakers outshine my existing speaker setup, which is pretty good, in my opinion. The sound quality is fantastic, and if you don’t have at least above average speakers currently, you may want to look elsewhere. You need something with good quality to get a proper blend with the Sonance speakers. This is quality sound, period. They are wonderful for movies, music, and sporting events. I have no reservations in saying you will undoubtedly enjoy them.
I don’t only recommend these speakers, but I encourage anyone interested to go to Best Buy and purchase them. This is not a question of “if” but “when”!

Anyone who appreciates a good home cooked meal should have a slow cooker in their kitchen. I recommend considering the Crock-Pot Multi Cooker as an upgrade or welcome addition.
Once removed from packaging, some assembly is required prior to using the cooker. You will need to attach the lid and handful of small pieces before getting started. The cooker comes with a start guide and a mini cookbook, all to get you going. The first thing that stands out to you once you begin handling this thing is the size of it. This is the by far the largest slow cooker I have ever owned. Next, you will notice the digital panel and the pressure cooking modes. This allows you to cook at your own pace by giving you the flexibility slow cooking that 5-6 hour dish that’s fall off the bone good, or quickly preparing something in 30 minutes or less.
My wife was able to cook a delicious concoction she prepares that includes spare ribs. After preparing the meal and loading the cooker, this meal was done in 30 minutes time, and part of that was the cooker preparing or pressurizing itself to begin cooking. The fact that a mean that normally took a few hours to prepare in the same manner, was done in 30 minutes gave me pause, but once those ribs were on my plate then in my mouth, I became a believer. This thing gets it done!
Clean up is pretty easy, but my wife had a bit of a time handling the cooker because, well, it’s big! 10 quarts! Yes, 10 quarts. I think we like the size, but keep in mind it will be a little more to handle during setup and clean up. You definitely won’t have to wonder do you have room to prepare those larger meals for guests or get togethers – this has the room to handle it.
All in all, we love this thing! It is the best slow cooker, or should I say Multi Cooker, we have ever owned, and that’s definitely saying a lot. This is a no brainer for anyone who prepares meals using a slow cooker or any kind of multi cooker. You will no doubt love it!

It seems I’m always in need of another security camera. Just when I think I have everything covered, I notice a whole or blind area that could use my attention. The Defender Guard camera definitely offers an opportunity to help in this regard.
The box for this camera is pretty straightforward – standard cardboard fare, with nothing fancy. You have all the cables and hardware for mounting the device whether inside or out. The power cord is fairly long but could be longer in my opinion. I say this because you have no other option but to power this device by plugging it into an outlet. The camera design is very basic. There is an antenna for wireless connectivity, and the camera is attached to a rigid mount which can be removed. The neck allows rotation and tilting, but you will need a screwdriver in order to change the camera’s tilt. I know this sounds like an inconvenience, but when installed in a reachable location, a person would have a very difficult time changing the viewing angle of the camera.
Installation is easy – mount it, run the cable, power it up. I you choose to mount the camera outside of your door, you will need to create an opening allowing the power cord to be fed inside. Well, anywhere this camera installed, you must account for powering the camera. Once the camera is powered on, you will need the Defender Guard app to configure the camera. Using the app was actually much easier than expected. Within minutes, I had the camera set up and recording motion activated instances. The camera has its own SD card on board (16GB), and it is removeable and upgradeable (up to 128GB). All recordings are stored there and accessible via the app. As long as you are connected to the same wireless network as the camera, you can view its content and live feed. The Defender Guard surprised me with its video quality. It’s respectable and really gives a good picture, day or night. The night mode has great distinction in objects and depth and isn’t quite as grainy as other devices I have used in the past. The motion detection was spot on, capturing video at the very hint of movement.
So, is this a keeper? Well, considering you have no service fees, no internet requirement, and no need for a cloud service, and the fact that it captures and displays excellent video in both day and night modes, the Defender Guard is one of the best options out there for quick, no hassle camera security. I highly recommend it for users at any level.

how do you connect the monitor to the laptop
Depends on the laptop. My preference for my device is a USB-C to HDMI adapter. You can also use the same type of adapter with USB-A instead of C. An older laptop may have an HDMI port or VGA port. You can use these as well.

No, you can not. The RAM comes in fixed sizes and is soldered in without additional bays.

Can I edit videos with it? Says I can edit video slideshows is that the same thing. Put one on old computer three years ago. With that one I could edit videos. Is that transferable?

I tried hooking up my macbook pro (which only has a usb-c port) to the monitor via hdmi and a hdmi adapter. However, the monitor keeps telling me there is no hdmi signal from my device. How do I fix this? The adapter works on other monitors (also Dells).
Have you tried installing the latest driver from Dell? This is a tricky one if it works on other monitors.

It really depends on the length of the carpet. This device is geared toward flooring and area rugs, but it does perform pretty well on low carpet. I wouldn't use in on anything that has any length beyond short.
