If this is paired with the SWA-9100S/ZA, does it give a true surround sound experience (4.1) or will it effectively still be 2.1 but with 4 speakers?

Hi Rainman! Great question! When paired with the SWA-9100S Wireless Rear Speaker kit, the surround system will have different output specifications depending on the current Sound Mode of the soundbar. When set to either BASS BOOST or SURROUND SOUND mode, you will get 4.1ch audio. Additional information regarding the output specifications can be found in the full user manual for the HW-A430.

does this system have a microphone that can be placed at a central place the mike to and volume ok for entire room?

Hi joeseph! The HW-A430 does not include a microphone and does not feature a connection for one. Samsung soundbars are designed to be placed or mounted just below the TV to provide a room filling sound.
