I just bought this TV for my mother but the picture is so dark. Any way to adjust it and make it lighter?

Hi Cyclone, Try turning off the ambient light detection, that will turn brightness down as the room gets darker.
Home > Settings > General > Eco Solution > Ambient Light Detection (Automatically adjust the picture brightness based on the ambient light level) is OFF. Home > Settings > General > Eco Solution > Power Saving Mode (Reduce power consumption by adjusting brightness settings) is also turned OFF.

After setting up my TV using HDMI cable not over Wi-Fi all the words on the screen are blurry except TV settings menue. Which leads me to believe this may be a settings issue or is it because I'm not hooked up to a Wi-Fi?

Hi Jennifer, the processor in the Samsung - 50" 7 Series is really good at clearing up static or scrolling text. Try this: Navigate to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings.
Navigate to and Select Auto Motion Plus. The default setting for Auto Motion Plus is Auto. This means the feature automatically turns on and off based on the type of program being watched. You can also try Custom or Off to see which one looks best to you. ^Scott
