i cannot figure out what the best choice for me would be.i want to stream movies and tv shows on my tv, without interrupting computer use. if i get a smart tv, do i still have to connect to computer? or get a second internet connection and plug directly into the connection- but i have the broadband that connects the computer with a phone jack.
You can connect all of your wireless devices to the same wireless network.
So Smartphones, computers, and Smart TVs can all be connected to your network.
If your network is wired only, you can get a router and share the Internet connection among all of your devices.

what is necessary to stream movies,etc. on the tv?
i want to stream movies onto the tv without interrupting computer use. do i connect directly to the broadband that works from a phone jack? if so, how? would that require a smart tv? it was suggested to just get a dumb tv with a hdmi port(mine has s-port) and use a cable direct from the pc to the tv, but that would interrupt computer, right?
We're not sure exactly what you're concerned about.
If you have a wireless network, you can connect multiple devices to it at the same time. Computers, Smartphones, Smart TVs.. all can share the same network.
You can get a SmartTV, and many apps will adjust streaming quality based on available bandwidth.

what additional gizmos are needed? modum? hdmi cable?
what else is necessary to use with broadband computer?
The television includes Wi-Fi, so that part is built-in. To connect, however, you need a wireless network in your house with Internet service and a modem.
HDMI cables are required for connecting other devices, like Cable/Sat boxes, game consoles and Blu-Ray players to your television.
If you want to use it as a monitor with your computer, your computer must have an HDMI output, and support 1080 or 720 resolution.

The Samsung demo video shows (screen capture attached) and states that the Shape speakers can be used like a 5 speaker home theater, all one needs is a hub and the speakers. Is this accurate?

Yes, you can connect a 5-speaker surround sound system using the Shape speakers, and the hub.
Additionally, you can use the speakers and assign different audio signals in different areas and control the audio of each speaker through your smartphone or tablet.

Does this TV adjust to a room with a lot of natural light? I want to make sure the viewing is good during the daytime.

All televisions will have some reflection if bright light is shining behind you or within a dimensional range.
There is technology designed to dampen the reflection, and the picture can be bright enough to compete with moderate ambient light, and in most cases, won't be apparent.

The HU8550 adds a Clear Motion Rate of 1200, which allows for Precision Black and an improved picture quality. Includes 4 pair of 3-D glasses. The panel is not curved.
The HU8700 has a Clear Motion Rate of 1320, has Precision Black and is a curved model, also with 4 pairs of 3-D glasses. It's curved.
The HU9000 adds a Quad Plus processor, which raises the Clear Motion Rate to 1440 (the highest available from Samsung this year), and adds a camera included for Skype capabilities. Not that we're aware of. This is designed to connect to an HDMI input on a consumer electronics television or similar device.
