Connecting a digital optical audio cable to transmit 5.1 audio to soundbar/subwoofer system?
I just bought the UN65F7100AFXZA tv and already have the HWF450 2 in 1 soundbar subwoofer system. I will be running HDMI from my Apple TV to the TV, HDMI from my cable box to the tv and a digital optical audio cable from the TV to my soundbar. First off this is compatible from my understanding right? And more importantly how do I change the settings on the TV or soundbar if need be to play 5.1 DTS audio while using each the Apple TV and watching regular cable?
This is a pretty detailed question in terms of multiple set up configurations that each have their own strengths and limitations.
5.1 audio passed through the televisions (except ARC connections) will be downgraded to a 2.1 audio signal, so while that's ideal for the audio bar, it may not be ideal for the 5.1 system. There are two audio systems in the configuration, and that compounds the explanation.
You may want to have a Geek Squad Agent connect your audio system for you - and while it may be an additional cost, it would be worth it so that he or she can walk you through the set-up and help you choose the audio system that you prefer.
We appreciate your support of Samsung products, but we just don't have a clear understanding of which audio system you intend to use - or how you intend to implement a DTS/5.1 signal.
