WHy use turnderbolt and so few usb ports

There are various reasons, but what we'll share is that the evolving needs of users need to connect high performance peripherals, drives, displays and more via USB-C hubs and docking stations, the Yoga 7i 2-in-1 laptops feature two Thunderbolt 4 ports to meet these needs. It does feature one USB-A port for connecting other devices that use this connection.

Yes, and yes. You can install another M.2 2280 SSD in the system, and the preinstalled 512GB drive can be swapped out for one of a higher capacity.

Can this Lenovo Yoga 7i take a higher capacity SSD than the 500gb SSD it comes with? Can it handle a 1TB or 2TB drive? If the hard drive can be replaced, is the Windows product code in the bios for reinstall? Is there a NVME drive slot inside?

You can swap out the preinstalled drive with one of higher capacity, including a 2TB drive, using the system's single M.2 2242 PCIe 3.0 x4 slot. Also, if installing a compatible drive, the BIOS should recognize the SSD to allow Windows 11 installation.
