You will need to Download the Google Home App on your iPhone or iPad to setup the device and access it's alarms and settings. The Smart Clock Essential can be connected to via-Bluetooth with Apple devices to play music from the device to the Smart Clock Essential. The Lenovo Smart Clock Essential can stream music from YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora, Tune-In, iHeart Radio, and sirius xm to name a few. Currently Apple Music is not supported.

I was thinking of purchasing this for my elderly father. He has wifi but not a smartphone. He needs it to remind him to take his pills and for doctor appointment reminders. Would this work for him?

Hello, you will need to download the Google Home App on a smartphone or tablet that is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you wish to use the device on. Once the Lenovo Smart Clock is setup on the network it is good to go and will not require the Google Home App to function.
