There are two standard USB 3.0 ports, one USB-c port, one HDMI-Out port, one 3.5mm combo headphone/MIC jack. This system has a CD/DVD drive built in. As long as the cells within the battery are intact and a circuit can be completed with the device plugged, yes, even if the battery no longer holds a charge, you will still be able to leave the device plugged in and use the device plugged in.

Yes and external hard drive can be used. Be sure the programs you install can be loaded to an external drive. Not all programs can work from an external drive.
