Can i get school work done on this laptop

That will depend on the type of work that needs to be done. This is an entry level system meant for light use. It will be good for Microsoft Office projects, in fact, it comes with a free 1-year subscription to Microsoft Office 365. It will also be good for online browsing. It has WiFi built in. If this is the type of work the student will be doing, then yes, this would be a good choice.

I just got this laptop and turned on. How come does MS office show it will be expired on 08/09/2017? It should be expired in 2018, isn't it?

There should be a full one year subscription of Office 365 with this device. Please call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. Have your receipt handy, there may be information on there they will need.
