Does the phone used need to be connected to a network. Or will the phone suffice? Do you download an app? I just cancelled his contract cause it was running a fortune. Thanks. Happy Holidays!

You only need to be connected to a "network' ( WiFi or other) when you are setting up the system for the first time. You will need to download the "app" and it will guide you though the whole set up process. Using the "app" insures that the whole system is synced correctly.
