I just purchased this laptop this weekend and I am pleased, but have one question. I put the volume on high and. Can hardly hear the DVD sound. I have played these DVDs on other laptop and it works prefect. Why is the volume so low? What can I do?

Is this a good first laptop for a 13 year old?

This is a good mid-level system. It would be a good choice for a first computer for someone, or a good choice for someone who is a moderate user. Does this have a place for wired mouse vs having to use one of the USB ports? Does it have a dvd/cd drive?

No, you would need to plug a wired mouse in to a USB port on this model. Model number 80ST005XUS does have a CD/DVD drive built in.
