You are correct. There is no backlit keyboard, nor a 10-key numeric pad on this system. I don't see the copy you refer to on this Best Buy web page for this system:

the touch pad isterrible- keeps making my screen bigger and smaller- and it is not smooth
There may be a driver update that can correct the bigger/smaller screen issue. Follow the link below to Lenovo.com support-drivers and look for mouse-keyboard driver updates. Be sure to create a restore point on your system before you make changes or download new software. If the feel of the touchpad does not work for you, you can use a mouse with this system. There are many different configurations of the Dell Inspiron 15.6" laptop. I don't know which one you are comparing to the Flex 4-14. The Flex 4-14 has a smaller 14" screen. Compare processors and RAM. The Flex 4-14 has a Pentium processor with 4GB of RAM. This is a mid-range power configuration. Good for Microsoft Office projects, browsing the internet, online research and streaming videos. If you are going to do more intense computing move up the processor and RAM to a more powerful choice.

This is a good basic system. It is good for Microsoft Office projects and it has the durability to last all 4 years of college if it is properly taken care of.
