I am due to have Google Fiber installed on July 5th. Is this computer Gigabit ready? I presently have an old eMachine, running Windows Vista. The Internet card on it runs up to 100Mbps. I am looking to upgrade.

Depends on the games he wants to play. Best to check with him as to what are his favorite games then check with the game software publisher for the minimum/recommended requirements to play their games. Compare those requirements with this system's configuration.
