is the btoom front SD slot open ? ususaly it comes with snap in tab to close sd slot

There is no cover on this system's SD-Card slot. There may be a plastic filler piece in the slot that was factory installed for protection, just push on it as if it were a SD-card and it should pop right our.

I bought this lenovo and want to use dialup. I inserted cd from zoom mini usb dialup modem but nothing seems to be working?? Where is "my computer" and settings?" I need to turn off wifi to use dialup. Where is the run cd button also? Thanks.

Open Cortana and type "My Computer" in the search window, then locate WiFi settings in my computer/control panel. The CD should automatically start when you close the CD drawer.

Is this a good computer for a college student? How long does the battery hold?

This is an entry-level system that would be good for Microsoft Office project, research online, email and online social networking. If that this the type of work the student will be doing, then yes, this would be an appropriate system. Approximate battery life is 4 to 6 hours, depending on the working being done on the system.

does it have a dvd drive/burner and if so whats its speed

Yes, this system does have a CD/DVD reader-writer. Write speed of the CD is 52X, write speed of the DVD side is 16X.
