Bought a Lenovo laptop 3years ago. Into the 1st year, it, had issues with the hinges. Unable to close it, one hinge came completely out which cracked the casing on keyboard. Unable to charge. Heard this is an issue with Lenovo laptops. Any improvements?

Regarding the Lenovo model referenced with your question, the IdeaPad 110-15 laptop, I have not seen any issues with the hinges on this device since this version was launched on June 29, 2016.

I have no use for Windows. If I install Linux (say Ubuntu 16.04) interntionally clobbering windows, will it reside in the 8GB SSD?

No, the SSD portion of the Hybrid drive is not accessible by the user.

The CD/DVD software is the basic software that comes with Windows 10 Home. You can read and write to CDs and DVDs. You can play commercial music CDs but you will need to purchase Media Player software to play commercial DVD movies.
