Is this only able to be used wireless? I do not see a port for an ethernet cable.

You are correct, there is no ethernet port, but you can get a USB to ethernet adapter, here is a link to an example:

Can you connect an external usb 2.0 dvd burner/reader mine does not recognize LG super multi drive. it works on my desktop. Do i need a more current external drive and any advice to brand? All i see in Lenovo knowledgebase is a y type Cable.

Yes, you should be able to connect your external CD/DVD reader-writer to the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 2--14. You need to install any drivers that either came with the drive or from the LG web site. The drivers must be compatible with Windows 10. This sounds like you need to install the Windows 10 driver on the system.

Would this be a good computer to get for a college student?

This is a very capable and versatile system. It will be great for Microsoft Office projects (software purchase required), online research, email, social media streaming video and audio files. If this is the kind of work the student will be doing on the device, yes, this would be a great choice.
