This VTech CM18445 corded phone is compatible with anywhere from 1 to 4 telephone lines and connects wirelessly with up to 10 handsets. The digital answering system records up to 180 minutes of messages, announcements and memos.
Do I need a landline for this or can it work off the internet?
Carl - The VTech CM18445 requires connection to an AC adapter and a telephone jack/modem to get a dial tone. The unit does not have the capability to connect to the internet. Thank you! - VTech Support

On additional features, it says customizable music. How does that work?
Brian - The VTech CM18445 has a Music on Hold feature that allows you to choose from 3 pre-recorded music, record your own music on hold or stream audio recording from an audio source such as a computer, mobile phone or MP3 player using the audio cable that comes with the phone system. Do these phones have a hold feature? To place someone on hold while taking another call?
Hi - No, the VTech CS5129-26 does not have a Hold feature. However, if you are referring to answering a call waiting, pressing the flash button while on a call will place the current call on hold automatically. You can switch back and forth by pressing flash. You may check the single line cordless phone IS8151-3 or our 2-line phones DS6151 and DS6251 which has the hold feature. Thank you! - VTech Support

I would like to set my CM18445 to announcement only so that our customers can hear the "announcement," but not have the option to leave a message. Please help.
Hi - Here's the procedure to set the VTech CM18445 to Announce only mode so callers will just hear an announcement but will not have an option to leave a message.
1. When the console is not in use, press MENU/SELECT.
2. Press ▼ to scroll to Line mode, then press MENU/SELECT.
3. Press ▼ or ▲ to select the desired line (Line 1, Line 2, Line 3 or Line 4) or All lines, then press MENU/SELECT.
4. Press ▼ or ▲ to choose the desired line mode (Announce only).
5. Press MENU/SELECT to confirm.

Instructions say parent monitor will dim after 10 mins of inactivity. My monitor goes completely black with no sound after about 1 minute. Is there a setting I can change or is everyone’s monitor like this?
Hi - The VTech VM5254 has a sound-activated screen and audio feature. When this feature is on, the parent unit screen switch off after 50 seconds when no sound is detected from the baby unit. Once the baby unit detects loud sound, the parent unit screen and speakerphone switch on automatically. You can also adjust the VOX sensitivity. It seems that line 2 won't work for our fax machine. When I try to send or receive a fax it doesn't go through and then prints off a verification report that says busy/ no response. Is there something I can do to fix this?
Lexy - the VTech DS6251-2 does not have the capability to determine if the incoming call is a fax or a regular call. We recommend to set your fax machine to Fax auto detect. If your using the answering system, ideally, the number of rings for the fax machine should be set to a lower value than the number of rings for the answering system with the fax auto detect option active. This way, all types of calls regardless if it is a regular phone call or a fax call will be screened first before being directed to the correct path. Does this phone have speed dial capability
