All the Tingles
on May 19, 2022
Posted by: GrizzlyD
I’ve had a Therabody percussive gun for ages and absolutely love it. So I was excited to try the Theraface Pro for the face. I love that it is compact, easy to grip, and even simpler to use.
It has several different modes, but after trying them all my absolute favorite is the Microcurrent ring. Even at the lowest setting, you can feel it working. I’ve used other microcurrent systems on other parts of my body, and was not a fan. They were always very intense. So I was a bit concerned about using it on the sensitive skin of my face. However, the gentle tingles were actually incredibly calming. When I was done and finished rinsing off the gel, my skin was soft and my face felt relaxed.
The other options were nice too. I have very sensitive skin and developed severe acne on my chin from all the mask wearing. My dermatologist has me on prescription strength cleansers, but I still struggle with redness and occasional outbreaks. While I’m not sure if it will make a huge difference in the long term, after just a few uses, I did begin to notice the redness was a little less. After the first two uses, my chin was a little flaky and was peeling, which is a sign of skin turnover. That subsided after about 48 hours and hasn’t been an issue since then.
Whether or not the lights are actually making a difference, the percussive feature itself is relaxing and a great way to end the day. There are several different tips you can use. I found the large round one to be the best. There is a pointy, cone shaped one that is supposed to be used for the fine lines around your eyes. That was extremely difficult to use, as it kept bouncing off my face and was difficult to target specific areas. The others worked well though.
All in all, it is a fun little tool and using it is like getting a mini-facial at home.

Cost Effective & Quiet Filtration
on January 25, 2022

Tried out quite a few different air purifiers from the smart ones to the dumb ones and really I've yet to see the real value in the "smart" ones. This particular model is a "dumb" one that doesn't require an app to function which is good enough. This device has just the right features to fit into your bedroom and not be too disruptive. It's quiet, doesn't look terrible, and has a nice nightlight feature.
The quiet part is was really wins out here. This unit has 4 fan settings, and I've kept it on setting 2 in my bedroom. It's noticeable, but not so much that it's disruptive. Setting 4 sounds a bit like a jet turbine.
The touch panel has oodles of settings and features, but to be honest a simple on/off, fan speed, and light button would be enough.
The device was easy to setup out of the box. And to be honest, my favorite thing is that they bothered to use a USB-C connector for the power. About time device manufacturers catch on and standardize on a connector vs using proprietary stuff.
Biggest complaint is the size. This device is rather large, and it's even bigger than it appears in photos. It's stylish looking with the gray color, but just way larger than I feel it needs to be. The WAF on these type of devices would be a lot higher if they were just more compact and easier to slip into places that don't make it stick out like a sore thumb.
Overall, it seems like it will be a decent device. I've yet to really notice it's ability to get the job done, but I've also only had it a week so far. The price is right and the color and style are nice, so I would consider recommending it to friends who are in the market for a device like this.

Fast, Easy Upgrade for your PC!!
on January 12, 2022
Posted by: GrizzlyD

Installed this drive into my gaming PC as a second data drive for my game files. The device came in lite packaging and was super easy to install. I was able to quickly provision it in Windows and installs to the drive went nice and easy.
Ran a few speed tests, and when comparing with my WD Black M.2 that I am using for my main drive, it was anywhere between 14-20% faster in response times depending on payload size.
Random 16k reads were about 80% more data per second, Sequential 64k reads were 14% more per second, and Sequential 64k writes were 15% more per second.
Out of the box the drive needed a firmware update, but the only way to install that was to download Samsung Magician.
Overall very pleased with this drive. Would recommend if you're in the market for a new M.2.

Whisper Quiet, Good Looking, Pricey

I was pretty excited to get these fans installed into my gaming pc. I only had 1 non-rgb fan in the front of the case. So upgrading to 3 colorful fans really livens up the case display.
The box was packed very well and the fans were well secured. They didn't waste packaging and i do appreciate that. The included instructions were about like Ikea instructions. Meaning to say that there were no words and just pictures for the most part. So they weren't all that helpful. I did hit youtube and managed to find some very helpful instructions related to the proper wiring pattern.
The biggest complaint with installation is that unless you have a mobo with an argb connector on it, you'll be up a creek without a paddle. For this price for 3 fans it should have come with a controller, which is even referenced in the instructions. Luckily my motherboard supported them and I was able to get them all setup no problem.
They are well designed with the rubber bushings for the mounts rubber screws for fastening it to the case. This really helps cut down on vibration and noises. The fans themselves are whisper quiet and spin up and down with little fanfare. ;)
The LEDs are nice and bright and present a nice ring of light around the perimeter of the fan blades. My motherboard is an MSI and uses mystic light, and I had no trouble setting up these lights to work with that 3rd party solution. I was also able to synch the mystic light setup with my other razer devices using smart synch.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with them and would recommend them to others.

Good, not Great clock with Google Home
on December 2, 2021
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
There's not a lot to say here. It's a clock with a 4" video display and Google Home built-in. The speaker is plenty for a bedroom space. The display is bright enough and the colors are just average. I do think it could have stood to be slightly larger around 5" or so. It's nice to be able to put your family photos from Google Photos on the device and have it cycle through them. Makes for a nice little picture frame on the night stand. It does everything you expect a Google Home video screen to do in that in can show the weather and so on.
A major missing component on this model is that there is no usb port on it for charging a phone. My previous Lenovo Smart Clock had a usb port on it giving me the ability to save an outlet and charge my phone or smart watch overnight. That is gone here which is a real drag.
My model didn't come with the wireless charging stand which might be a nice feature to add on for those that have devices that can wireless charge, but it does cause the device to take up a bit more space on your nightstand.
I probably wouldn't go out of my way to recommend this to others. It's just ok, and for the price I think they could have done more. There are alternatives out there, even Nest devices that fit the bill if you really want something that has a screen sitting on your nightstand. Good not Great.

A must-have device for multi-tasking on the go.
on November 28, 2021
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
This is a pretty nifty little device, but how much you love it will probably depend on how you use your phone.
There are quite a few features I really like about this device. Web browsing is one of the top things that I do on my phone. The dual screen makes this so much better than on a traditional phone screen. I'm coming from a Google pixel XL, and was already accustomed to having a lot of real estate. The width of each screen makes it simpler to read and navigate web pages.
The multitasking option is also awesome because you can have your browser up in one window and another app open in the other. So for example if I have a recipe up, then I can have instacart open and be ordering my groceries without having to toggle back and forth. So lots of things that I used to have to stop and pull my laptop out for, now I can just knock out on my Duo 2.
The dual screen means this device can also replace my e-reader. The Kindle app works seamlessly and allows two page viewing, giving it the feel of a traditional book. It also works great using all of my Google docs, Sheets, and Slides. Of course, OneNote works seamlessly, too. One of my favorite things about the dual screen though, is using Facebook Messenger. I can have the keyboard on one screen and the messages on the other, which allows a larger viewing area and a faster typing experience.
One concern I had was that the larger size would make it clunky to navigate and handle. I was pleasantly surprised that holding it with one hand is pretty simple and effortless once I got used to it. It actually feels a lot more sturdy, especially with a slight bend in the spine. The dual screen design also allows me to set it up like a built-in stand. So rather than trying to prop it up against something, I can just sit it up and have a hands-free experience if I'm watching a video or something similar. This also worked well for snapping selfies with the timer! Unlike other reviews I've seen, I have not experienced any issues with the touch screen. I find it reactive and snappy.
So what are some drawbacks? If you're using your phone to take incredible photographs, you'll probably be disappointed. The camera is sufficient, but not impressive. My Google pixel captured better images and had a more robust built-in editing program. You also have to take the few seconds to open the device up in order to take a photograph. This isn't a huge deal, but if you're accustomed to being able to pull your phone out of your pocket, click a button and snap a photo it takes a little bit of getting used to.
The other disadvantage this device has is the clunkiness between the competing Microsoft and Google programs. I'm still a huge Windows fan, and prefer Microsoft office products to Google suite. I'm also one of the weirdos that still uses Bing instead of Google. With all that being said, the device is awkward because sometimes it will default to Edge and other times to Chrome. On most Android devices, they work seamlessly with Google products. Not so on the Duo 2. It takes a bit of tinkering in the settings to switch the default apps. There are some I still haven't figured out. This creates some lagginess, and browsers tend to freeze from time to time.
The last thing you should consider is the wide screen means the typical ratio for phones doesn't apply. Some social media formats (such as Instagram Stories) won't appear correctly and are partially cut off. This isn't a huge deal, since social media is something I use only occasionally, and mainly for browsing. However, if you are posting frequently or doing lots of live videos, this may impact you more.
All in all, considering I use my phone more to multitask, it is a good fit for me. I can easily take notes, edit documents, send emails, schedule social media posts, and watch videos in a bigger, more user friendly format than on a traditional phone screen. It is really like having a mini laptop. Plus it looks new and unique, and who doesn't like to stand out from the crowd?

Good sound, haptics will take some getting used to
on November 11, 2021
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
Overall I like these headphones. The fit is pretty good and comfortable in terms of the ear cups. The sound is actually quite good but tends to be on a bit of the bassy side. The thx equalizer settings are pretty good and highly customizable. If you are using Razer synapse and have other lighting devices it will sync with those devices as well.
Biggest con is with the USB cable. It tends to be on a bit of the short side. And because it's hardwired to the left cup it has to cross across my chest in order to plug into my PC. In a lot of ways I think I would have preferred it either be a modular connection or connected to the right cup so that it didn't have to cross across me. It uses a standard USB-A connector, which is a bit dated at this point.
Onto the haptics, I expected this to be a new experience and it definitely didn't prove me wrong. At first it was a little jarring and I didn't mind it while playing OverWatch. However as time went on I became less and less amused by the functionality. I don't know that it made me feel any more immersed in the game then not having it. There's a button on the right ear cup that enables you to turn in off or increase or decrease intensity. So that is pretty convenient when you need to disable it because it is not something you want to use when just watching videos or standard browsing. Overall I don't know that I would recommend this functionality to a friend because I don't know that it's worth the effort in the end. Neat gimmick, but it's pretty much just that a gimmick. I would however consider recommending them for a decent sounding set of headphones. Because at the end of the day they do sound pretty good.

Smokeless Yes, Radiate Warmth No
on October 12, 2021

Picked up the Flare 17.5 thinking it would make a nice patio firepit. Overall it doesn't do too bad a job. It gives a nice ambiance, and is easily portable with it's handle and carrying case. I struggled a lot getting it hot enough to light regular wood blocks and ended up having to get a fire log. That did the trick and was able to burn hot enough to light other pieces of wood inside the pit.
It seemed to deliver pretty well on the reduced smoke part as it sent what little smoke that was produced straight up into the air vs all over. The only other real con besides the struggle getting it to light (without fluids) was that it didn't produce much warmth away from the assembly. I'd say you get a circle of warmth about 3ft around the unit.
Overall it's not bad and cleans up pretty easy. So I'd recommend it for those looking for a quick fire pit setup that can be moved around with ease. The stainless steel structure itself gets very hot and so you'll want to be careful with kids and animals. My dogs didn't seem to fear it like they would any other firepit and tended to get pretty close to it.

wasn't quite sure about switching from a wireless back to a wired mouse. but this one has been pretty good. install was a breeze and the synapse software autoloaded upon plugin which made things easy.
the mouse cord is very nice a lightweight, you barely notice it's tethered. the lighting it well placed and pretty cool how it glows from underneath the mouse.
the performance has been quite good. i jumped in a played a few fps games right away and had no troubles adjusting to the new device. and the accuracy and speed at which it functions is top tier. so far i'm very satisfied with this device.

easy setup, nice tactile feel
on October 1, 2021
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
i replaced a logitech g series keyboard with this one. the logitech had the mechanical clicky switches and while it was a durable keyboard it required two usb ports and was loud.
the huntsman keyboard only uses one usb port, and uses optical switches. the overall feel is very nice. they have a tactile feel and respond very well when pressed. there's a bit of a soft touch to them, and there's zero unnecessary sound produced.
the install was a breeze and it was interesting to me that it automatically loaded the synapse software upon plugin. my only real complaint so far is that there isn't a usb port/hub built into the keyboard.
i've only had it a few days, so i can't speak to the durability. so far i am pleased and would recommend to others.
