Sony’s Music and Google Assistant combine talents

Sony Google Assistant Built-in Wireless Speaker LFS50G - White
Sony puts its design and music experience to make an attractive bluetooth wireless speaker with built in Google Assistant. This is a nice product that compares well with other bluetooth speakers that seem to be coming available everyday. Sony does have a few touches others don’t but they can also a mixed bag. If you want to skip tracks or change the volume you can use hand gestures over the top of the speaker. This is nice where you might have wet hands like in the bathroom or kitchen. You do need to kind of train your hand gestures to make good use of this function. To play or pause you swipe your hand over the top of the speaker either forward and back. To skip you pass over the speaker either left or right. These are very easy to use but to change the volume you circle your finger over the top of the speaker. That’s a little harder to get your finger position correct and it takes a little practice. The circle seems smaller and a bit unforgiving. When you get it right it might be turning up or down faster or even slower that you're expecting. I suppose how easy this gets can depend on where the speaker is setting and how used to it you become. Of course you can always have the assistant do all of these same functions just by telling it to but that will pause playback. The Sony has a nice clock on the front that is kind of geeky with the time and minutes in a stacked format that I liked. And you do get lighting effects around the top circle when you use hand gestures. It's like the Google home but different in a nice way. Sony says the sound is in a 360 degree circle. I would say that is correct and makes placement of the speaker very easy. The sound coming out will always be mono. I played music installed on my phone using bluetooth and streamed through Google Play and Youtube Red. I was a little disappointed Sony is not supporting their own bluetooth LDAC streaming standard on this speaker. LDAC will be built into all android phones with Oreo Ver 8.0 like the Pixel 2. And it is already supported by many of their own bluetooth devices. The speaker has a flat neutral sound with maybe a little more emphasize on the highs than the bass. It can fill a good sized room with sound but the highs do start the get broken up at the higher volumes. The good news is at most listening levels the sound is clear and clean. To make the speaker work you must first have Google Home installed on your smartphone and then you will setup a bluetooth connection. After you go through the setup it connects to your WiFi and you complete the setup using your Google account. I setup my Wifi using the NFC touch on the back of the speaker to my S8+ and it connected with just a tap. It gets your WiFi password from the phone, neat. Google Assistant finally supports multiple account logins which is says it can identify using your unique voice. I still find the Google Assistant to be a learning experience for me to get right but this is the future and it will just get easier and better. Casting to my TV using its own smart TV features and a Google Chrome Cast worked well. The list of devices you can control seems to grow everyday for all of the top home assistants. We are watching the smart home become a reality and I think this is getting to be very interesting. And I like how this sounds

A full featured shaver

The Philips Norelco 5750 electric shaver puts a lot of features into one package. It can be used wet or dry, comes with a sideburn trimmer, a SmartClean system that docks cleans and charges the shaver and of course includes the iconic Norelco Flex Shaving Heads. The shaver is very comfortable in the hand and also comes with a nice carrying travel case. You can charge the shaver without using the SmartClean system. I am a person who has to shave everyday. I don’t have a tough beard but if I don’t shave everyday by the second day it shows pretty good. One of the features of the shaver is a turbo mode. It did seem to help but with my beard it was hard to really tell for sure. As a first time user of the Flex Shaving Heads I still have to learn how to get the best shave with them. The shaver does works great and it gave me a very good shave but I can’t say it was better than the more conventional electric shavers I have always used before. I find the SmartClean a nice feature. It is convenient and if you use it your shaver will last longer. Although the shaver is already very easy to keep clean even if you don’t use the SmartClean system. This is a nice shaver and if you're already a Norelco user I am sure you will be satisfied. If you're not like me than my first experience has been very good so far.

Portable with great build quality and battery life

Audio Pro - Addon T3 Portable Bluetooth Speaker - White
The Audio Pro - Addon T3 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a compact little package that has a very unique look. When you first see it you might be surprised how small it is. I measured it at 5” high, 5 ¼” deep and 8 ½” long. Then when I picked it up I was surprised how heavy it felt. This is one solid box. The back is mostly metal and includes the AC connection, a USB port that is for charging only, AUX 3.5mm in and I counted 16 screws. The body seems to be made out of a very solid plastic and when you rap on it, it feels very solid. The controls on the top are done in a very nice looking metal plate and button controls follow that same theme. It looks very good and also at the top is the leather handle. On the front is three speakers behind metal grills. Two 2 ¾” dome tweeters and in the middle one 3.5” woofer. It supports Bluetooth 4.0 which is not the latest standard and that is too bad. With such great build quality you almost expected better. Still this is the most common Bluetooth standard you will find in most devices today. This means easy parting and good sound. One of the standout feature here is the rated battery life. Up to 30 hours at 50% volume and 12 hours at 100% volume. I can’t see it ever being used at !00% but who knows. This is a pure digital Class D amplifier. Class D amplifier are very power friendly, respond fast and are very common. This amplifier is rated at 5 watts to the twiters and 15 watts to the woofer. And the sound, well it is good and shines more on the top end. The bass shows up but it is not overwhelming. I played it in an open space and that helped it breth. It can put out room filling sound if needed. In a more closed environment like a moving vehicle the bass didn’t seem to have the same impact. I had 8 hours of playback without any problem so I wouldn’t be surprised that it can keep going. The market is loaded with portable Bluetooth speakers. This one stands out as being very well built. It doesn’t have the flashing LEDs some of the portable speakers have. But it is very unique with excellent build quality. One thing that seems missing here is lack of waterproofing. As well built and being this portable that seem like a bit of an oversight. Maybe that’s the trade off for this sound quality. The Audio Pro Addon T3 has a lot of competition in its price range. But if you're looking for day long battery life in the most portable package that is sure get smiles the T3 deserves a good look.

Tough competition in this class range

Hisense 65H9D (65” TV) H9 Series 4K UHD HDR Smart TV
First off the Hisense H9 Series 4K UND HDR Smart TV is a very nice TV. The problem is Hisense wants to compete in a higher price bracket and to do that they are up against the three most common brands that have a very strong foothold in the US market. In a very general sense the Series H9 has done a very good job meeting the competition head on. But to unseat the leaders you really have to bring a good game. First off the most important feature any TV can bring is great picture quality. Here the Series H9 is up to having a good fight. Out of the box the colors were mostly spot on. The colors jump right out of the screen but there not oversaturated and skin tones look very good. Blacks and dark scenes look detailed with good contrast. The big draw here though is the HDR (High Dynamic Range) support this TV has. You will only see this on some streaming services and on some Ultra Blue Ray disks. But it can add to the picture quality more than even 4K over standard HD 1080P sets. But every day HDR is becoming available in several price ranges. So it is going to become more common but like any feature you can have, if it not implemented well it is just another checklist item. To get the full impact from HDR you need a lot of light coming from you screen. Higher end TVs do have a higher measure of light where as the Hisense is good but not class leading. Still don’t let that distract much here as this TV has a very nice picture. It does support local dimming but it's not mentioned on the packing. You have to do a bit more research to know its not the cheaper edge lighting that you would find in most LED TV panels. I would say that if you're in the market for a TV do not buy one that does not support HDR as it is going to be available on most new movie titles and it's also coming to older titles. The H9 has excellent picture quality but where it mostly surprised me was in everyday content. It was especially strong in upscaling standard and HD content to 4K. This is no small feat and often overlooked when seeing true 4K material. But honestly most of whats on TV today is barely HD let alone 4K. This is especially true of cable TV. So the fact this TV upscales most content to 4K so well it lets you enjoy the image quality more than other sets more of the time. So we have a fully capable 4K screen, support for the latest HDR standard that has great color accuracy but also is a real joy to watch the type of TV most people will see most of the time, great job Hisense.
Ok so I have a very slim bezels that is in a sleek modern design. Great picture quality with most sources but what is missing. Well I don’t think the smart TV features is going to impress much. It does have some of the standard services like Netflix, Amazon and YouTube but other than what already available on the TV is does not appear to offer much more. The app store it has available didn’t have anything new that wasn’t already on the TV. The remote is actually very good and makes accessing the TV features easy. After having used it for a longer time I find the button feel odd with a cheap feeling click on some. Lucky the remote codes are supported by third party remotes. That's not to say it not good enough for everyday use but I think a little more refinement and it would have been a nice addition. It doesn't’ have any learning features so it's only good for the TV and won’t operate any other devices you might have. Finally I have to say this is a very attractive TV. And it seems like the build quality is as good as any of the competition. Strangely the back of the TV really has a very high quality look. Its lined with screws and I can’t quite tell if its all plastic or metal but it looks good. Not something you would normally think about but I think it shows the overall package is very nice. The TV menu system is clean and well laid out. The remote makes it very easy to access features that other TV might make you dig deep in the menus to find but the most common functions are very accessible. Another feature important to many uses is how it looks with sports broadcasts. Watching a live NFL game I was impressed with the TV keeping up with the football in the air. On my larger screen TV when the football is in the air for a long time it can’t keep with the motion of the ball. The H9 was much better, not perfect but unless someone points it out you might not notice any skipped frames. If the H9 had a better implementation for its smart TV I really think it could go head to head with the most common brands. As it is the smart TV features are slim but the good news is there are external smart TV options for 4K that were not available before. They pretty much fix most of the complaints I have with the H9. Finally the TV supports two full high speed HDMI connections and two for older standard HD content. It has both wired and wireless networking and even supports component connections. There are several USB ports available and the TV does support support most common file types for playback. As a final word the sound is pretty good for such a thin TV. The speakers get very loud and with the small bezels the sound seems to come right from the center of the screen. In many installation you could easily get away without adding a receiver or sound bar.

The Acer S271HL Gbidx 27" Monitor is a simple budget monitor that has a nice size screen. This monitor has some nice features that will satisfy your average user or gamer. It has a VA panel which helps the colors, especially the blacks look good but also causes the viewing angles to be less that some other panel types. The colors are not punchy but they were good for viewing most content. I set the brightness and contrast both to 80. The brightness was at 100 out of the box. Because of the VA panel viewing angles this monitor is best for someone who will be sitting looking straight at the screen. One nice feature here is it has very small bezels which help make this big screen look even bigger and may help it fit on some of the common hutch type desks. It has a rated 4ms response time so it should be very good at gaming. The monitor itself has three connections, HDMI, DVI and VGA. I don’t know how many people use VGA anymore but it doesn’t hurt to have it available. My monitor only came with a VGA cable so I checked and that was correct on the Best Buy website. VGA cables are usually blue on the end so check your computer. If you only have a white DVI connector or black HDMI connector than you would need to buy a cable to use this monitor that is if you don’t already have one. It uses a small power brick and also supports VESA mounts on the back. The stand is a fixed height but does have a limited range to change the angle forward and back. One thing to note here is there are no onboard speakers. It does have a 3.5mm headphone jack on the back panel and will pass sound through but some onboard speakers would have been a welcome addition. Finally I have to say it took me a few times to figure out the monitors menus but the control was simple once I used it a few times. I was not fond of the bright blue power light in the front and couldn’t find anyway to turn it off. If you looking for a bigger screen for gaming, web browsing or even to do office work this is a good budget option. And it does have a three year parts and labor warranty. Acer makes some of the finest monitors in the world so they are going to be around for a while.

Logitech - RGB G810 Orion Spectrum Gaming Keyboard is as much fun to sit and watch as it is to actually use. My friends kept complaining about the sound of my mechnical keyboard while gameing. It was working fine but to be fair I started to look for an alternative. I wasn’t using a Logitech keyboard at the time but I have many times in the past. Logitech is one of those compaines that just seem to get it and most of there products are of a very consistant quality. Although the lighting is very nice it’s the feel of the keys and how little noise they make compaired to my cherry blues keyswitches that make it so nice. I also like how there is no wasted space with macro keys but they still have the media keys. As a person who does office work and then normally plays FPS I am very happy with this change. And the color options now have me thinking of matching my PC case with some RGB goodness. I give Logitech a big thumbs up for staying on the edge with a very nice looking and quality feeling keyboard. And if you really want to you can map the function keys to macros. And the software gives you a lot of control over the RGB lighting and is done very well.

Making me rethink Bluetooth headphones.

B&O PLAY by Bang & Olufsen - Beoplay H4 Wireless Over-the-Ear Headphones - Black
The history of the bluetooth protocol just has not allowed for real audiophile quality. But I think with the H4s I am going to have to make an exception. When I first started to listen to the H4s I was at work and soon forgot I had them on. I was enjoying the sound but work was to distracting for me to really focus on the sound like I wanted. Sorry to say that after about 4 hours my attention was about the comfort I wasn’t experiencing. The top of my head started hurting because of the small amount of padding on the top band. I had to shift to another part of my head to be comfortable again. But even before then I was thinking I must have big ears because for over the ear headphones my ears were always in contact with the ear pads. I think they are just a bit on the small size for me. But once I settled in with them I was getting very good sound isolation. I had to put them away for the last half of the day and then I put them back on at home. Well that’s when I really got to listen to them and I am very impressed. I loved the bass but it’s not dominating it’s just smooth and natural. In fact these headphone really do have a nice sound. I did all my listening with my Galaxy S8 where I can hold thousands of songs. Mostly I play FLAC files but I also play a lot of MP3s. Only on high volumes with the MP3 did I feel things got a little out of control with the bass getting muddled up. That was simple to fix by just dropping the volume down a little bit. Once the sound drew me in I really started to look at the headphone differently. First I still think the headband needs more padding but my only other big complaint is the buttons are hard to manage. It’s something you learn but I have other wireless headphone that have easier controls to find. However I can put up with a little character when the sound is this good. I did take some calls with them throughout the day and never had a complaint about how I sounded.
Now that bluetooth headphone are coming from everywhere it is time for the industry to start putting out new bluetooth radios in their products. B&O has used the version 4.2 bluetooth here and my Samsung supports 5.0 which is a very good step up. If the B&O H4s can sound this good with the older protocols I would love to hear them on the very newest standard. With that out of the way why do these not come with a carry pouch or case. Wireless, portable it is just a major oversight to not include a case for something this nice. And the 3.5 aux cable and micro USB cables here are more than forgettable. Really for such nice quality materials used on the headphones the included accessories are a real letdown. There is an app for Android and IOS but these paired so easy and the Play Store rating just didn’t strike me as the app being necessary. Finally these are as nice a sound as I have heard from any bluetooth headphones. The build quality is easy best in class. The sound isolation here makes the need for dedicated noise cancellation unnecessary. If you're looking for excellent wireless bluetooth headphones do not over look what these have to offer. In the end it should be about the sound and comfort. I have been wearing these for hours at a time and I would still like a bit more padding on the top. But I have to recommend these even with the few minor flaws they have.

Small affordable as simple to use.

The Western Digital My Cloud 4TB drive is a neat little device that can fit many different roles depending on what you want. With cloud in the name it is mostly intended to be a device where you can store pictures and files that you can access anywhere in the world you have an internet connection. But the need to access your picture library from your phone is probably something most people already can do. Both Apple and Android phones already provide that service. Most people that have important files like insurance policies can already access those from their insurance provider. If I need my car insurance I go to the app from my insurance company or login to my account on my desktop. But that is not to imply there is not some real value to be had here. One of the most important roles a network device like this can provide is the backup of your local computer or tablets for example. So that is a real value because with a 4TB drive you can backup all of you computers with one device. That is where I think the real value here is and it is dead simple to setup and put into service. And I have to say it is very nice looking and takes up almost no room. Plug it into your network from a wired connection, create a online account and it is ready to use. If you read the features list there is much you can do here. Strangely missing is any mention of it being UPnP, (Universal Plug n’ Play). This is an industry standard protocol that permits networked devices to be accessed from other devices that also support this protocol. It is not mentioned anywhere I could find in the WD home pages or in the limited documentation it comes with unless I just missed it. Typically you would expect to see this prominently on the outside of the box or in the features list. But depending on your skill level it does work but not without separate software. It comes with a PLEX software client so that can use the device to stream. I had no problem playing music streamed from my phone to my Samsung TV from files on the My Cloud device. PLEX can stream most anything so its is there but is a separate software to be installed. This works like another much more expensive NAS, (Network Attached Storage) device I have. Now you can’t really compare these two because my current NAS is way more expensive and more complicated to setup. Here you have a neat little device that is very simple to use and very attractive no matter where you decide to place it. You can access it’s contents from anywhere in the world you have an internet connection. And a very important feature that really matters is you have your files on one device you could run out of the house with. Yes much of our pictures and music are already in the cloud but there is something to be said about having them and any other files you store on your computer, tablet or phone in a package you can put in a bag. That value alone can make this a perfect safety net when something like a hurricane is bearing down on you. I like it, I like how easy it is to setup and use and if you don’t have a device like this you should. It also fully supports Windows backup and Apple time machine. Don’t worry if you have never thought you needed a network device like this or are afraid to setup one up. There are tons of resources and even the Western Digital help files are very well done. Western Digital has had this same My Cloud device out in various sizes and styles for years so it is a very mature device that just works

The Vitamix Explorian Series E310 Blender is a flexible, easy to use blender with a very powerful motor. It is very simple to use and maintain and is a very well respected brand of home and professional blenders. It comes with a 48 oz container that is simple to read and keep clean. The front only has three control options. There is a pulse options of the variable speed setting, a variable speed dial with 10 speeds and a on and off switch. For its size it will take up a good bit of your counter space. But if you are a person who uses a blender a lot this is the type of unit that will provide daily service. I would not say it is an attractive unit but if function follows form it makes it clear on first look it is a high quality appliance. You can spend much less for a blender so this is a purchase for those that really need this level of performance. I can say it delivers for either the professional or amateur chief.

Tons of features and great picture quality.

LG now has an Ultra HD player that is an affordable option for those who have a 4K TV. My first impression was that the build quality seemed a bit on the plastic side. The player doesn’t come with much in the way of instructions but really you just set it up like most modern AV devices, that is, plug in the HDMI cable to your AV receiver or TV. Going through the setup wizard was quick and easy if not a bit bland. That is about it as the only other thing in the box is the remote. Missing is the HDMI cable. I don’t agree with any manufacturer's decision to leave out the HDMI cables. It is always a plus when the manufacturer supplies the correct cable so that was a disappointment. If you are using a 4K TV you need an HDMI cable rated for 18 GBs. And keep in mind that this player will work with non 4K TVs just fine. Clearly that’s not what this player is for but if you are in the market for a disk player this one is very close to future proof. The only disks formats it doesn’t support is DVD Audio and SACD. These are music only audio formats and if you're using those disk types you probably already have a player for them. This is a feature rich player that supports HDR (High Dynamic Range), 4K streaming, DVD, Blu-Rays, USB and External HDD playback with both Ethernet and WiFi connections. For HDR and Dolby Vision you will need a newer 4K TV that supports these formats. Don’t worry though as the picture quality here is among the best you can get from any player on any TV. For me I just plugged in the HDMI 1 connection to my receiver. There is an HDMI 2 connection on the back but it's labeled as audio only. For streaming Netflix with Dolby Vision and HDR support is the star here, again if your TV supports these formats and finally 4K YouTube is here as well. I felt like the remote was well done. I don’t have an LG TV so I used it to control the player and it felt very good in my hands. I think this is a very competitive offering in the Ultra HD player space. It compares well with the competition and for those that are lucky enough to have a high end 4K TV this is a very nice addition. For those that don’t it is still a very nice player and as prices for the high end TVs with HDR and maybe Dolby Vision come down this is probably the most future proof player currently available.

Can you add a SSD or NVME to the 528? Specs show an internal SSD PCIE! No pictures of the insides or specs anywhere online. Also looks like a 4 or 5 TORX for the back cover. Two screws near the hinge look like they are separate form the back cover????

The user guide makes no mention of being able to add additional storage.

Groom unwanted facial hair using the Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000, a premium precision trimming kit. The Protective Guard System privides the ultimate comfort while the rotary and detail trimmers cuts close. Use the eyebrow attachments to evenly trim your eyebrows. The long-lasting lithium battery provide multiple usage and the pouch makes the trimmer easy travel. The nose trimmer is fully washable, making it easy to clean by simply running under a warm faucet.

Your Description and Specifications say it comes with a rechargeable lithium battery, and that it recharges in 1 hour. Your manual says to use NON-rechargeable batteries. I see no provision for a charger in the packaging. Which is it?

The trimmer comes with a single non rechargeable lithium battery. There is also no battery charger in this kit.

Enjoy crisp powerful sound while gaming with this Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero wireless PC gaming headset. The rechargeable battery offers up to 30 hours of use, and the remappable on-ear controls let you adjust settings as needed. This Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero wireless PC gaming headset has a sleek metal headband and interchangeable cooling gel-infused memory foam ear cushions that provide a comfortable, secure fit.

Whats up with the lack of reviews on this, is this a new product? Are the ear cups leather? Is the mic attached or apart of the headset?

The lack of review might be due to it being a very new product. It can be found on the Turtle Beach website. The ear cups are a very soft pleather. You are not likely to see full leather ear cups at this price range or even higher. The mic is removable and the mute button is on the left headphone. The mic works very well.

Is it 5.1 or 7.1

It is neither. It is a full 3D sound environment and not separate channels. You can find this feature in some higher end headphones. It seems to work well but its not your average 5.1 or 7.1 surround channel that we think of. Go look for Waives NX 3D audio to find out more about this technology.
