Logitech - G815 LIGHTSYNC RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with GL Clicky Switch
The Logitech 815 is a new design I have not seem from Logitech before. It is clearly a gaming keyboard with it individual RGB lighting, macro keys and ability to defeat the windows key. It also includes a USB passthrough and some very easy to use multimedia keys. The new design is the thin low profile format that is both modern looking and a departure from the standard designs we have had forever. My current gaming keyboard has a padded wrist rest. The logitech with its low profile doesn’t need a wrist rest which is nice and frees up room on your desktop. An interesting feature is also the G815 can be had with three different types of Logitech’s GL mechanical keys. The version I have is called the GL Clicky. This has a pleasant audible click and tactile feedback. They also offer GL Tactile with a bump when pressing down and a GL Linear that is claimed as completely smooth. I do like the Logitech GL mechanical keys and I use one daily in my office. If there is one thing I wish Logitech would have changed is the need to use up two USB ports. Some smaller computers might not have the extra USB port. And it also makes the cable thicker. I have another Logitech keyboard with full RBG lighting that works just fine using one USB connection. I suppose the second one is needed for the USB passthrough. The Logitech G815 looks great, has some of the nicest mechanical keys of any manufacturer and is a pleasure to use. The price does put it at the higher end level although, I am a big proponent of using quality peripherals for computers and especially gaming. Your keyboard, mouse and monitor are mostly what you interact with on a PC and can really make a difference that a slightly faster CPU might not even be noticed. And can also last through several upgrade cycles so choose them carefully. With Logitech products you almost can’t go wrong and now the options are even better.

Marshall and Rock N’ Roll

Marshall Minor II Bluetooth in-Ear headphones
I really like these Marshall Minor II Bluetooth in-Ear headphones. They are as close to a true Rock N’ Roll sounding headphone that I have heard. If you know the Marshall brand that may not come as a surprise. What makes a good Rock N’ Roll headphone is at least for me the sound just seems perfect for Rock N’ Roll. That’s not to say they don’t play other music types as well, as they do. But I don’t think they are a good fit for Rap or Hip Hop. The bass is there its just not out front. But it is balanced very well with the mids and highs. They don’t have the heavy bass you think about with Rap or Hip Hop. They can play it but you really need a good seal in your ear if, heavy bass music is what you play the most. The problem is, although I think Marshall has nailed the sound they didn’t nail the fit. The headphones cannot fit deep in your ears, they really just sit on the outside. They are just not designed to be placed deep in the ear. That is fine for most music types but you really need that seal if you want the bass to be out front. The battery life of 12 hours is right about what I got. And I really like the single button control. In most in-ears like this they use two or three buttons to control the headphones. The Marshall has a single button that is easy to find and use. Most of these in-line control styles you struggle to learn the control positions. The Marshall control is simple and works very well. Other manufacturers should take note here, this is the correct way to place a button you can’t see. My Samsung S10 paired right away but I found I could use the full volume and it wasn’t too loud. I don’t recall needing to max out my volume on any other Bluetooth headphones I have tried. I wouldn’t normally play at that volume in normal listening and the Marshall don’t need to be at full volume but I was surprised they didn’t get louder. I can recommend these Marshall Minor II headphones for everyone unless they listen to Rap or Hip Hop. And only because they don’t seal in the ear. But once I quit trying to force them and let them sit normally I was good. Just a but different then most in-ears I have used in the past. Also keep in mind these are not sport headphones. Nowhere does it say they are water or sweat proof. I was glad to see these were Bluetooth 5.0. That is the most current Bluetooth standard that many other manufacturers have not bothered to update too. Also the aptX support is welcome but I do wish they also supported the higher Sony LDAC standard. It would have been nice to see both high quality playback formats supported. aptX is at least the most common but the Sony standard is also becoming very common and is now standard on most Android phones. If you don’t mind the fit you are probably going to like how simple and good sounding these headphones are.

Great quality, Very Easy to use, limited options

Definitive Technology - 5.1 Channel Soundbar System with 8" Wireless Subwoofer - Black. The Definitive Technology's Studio Advance Soundbar was a bit of a surprise at this price level. I have had Definitive Technology speakers in my home theater for the last three years. I have them wall mounted along with my flat screen. My very first home theater subwoofer was a Definitive Technology brand. At the time I last redid my home theater if there were any soundbars they would have been few and not anywhere at the level of quality the Studio Advance Soundbar is. But that also means the options available have come along way and at all price ranges. Since we are talking about one of the leaders in speaker technology, we should expect a lot. Well you really only get what you need here. And that was the surprise. With most high-end products you expect it to have more feature then you might ever use. With the Studio Advance Soundbar you really only get the features you actually use. That would be fine except it’s really not the performer I had hoped. The sound is fine but I wouldn’t say it was great. It reveals itself much better being back and does have a good front soundstage, its clear but its not exciting. The 8” subwoofer has a nice build and does its job well but you have very limited control over the sound as a whole. The remote has a movie, music and night mode which do change the sound just not in a big way. Having a bit more control here would have been nice. When we think about the feature set here, 4K, HDR passthrough, Chromecast, Bluetooth support and ARC, (Audio Return Channel) we have enough but not any more then that. For the Chromecast to work you must connect to your Google Home app. There is very little feedback from the soundbar other than some LED lighting on the front that show your volume changes. There is no on-screen display of any type that I could find. That may have been my single biggest disappointment. In my setup I use a Nvidia Shield to control my TV and I found the Shield remote worked great and had no problems turning on, off and changing the volume level. That may also be one of the bigger advantages here. The Soundbar just works without much need to learn anything. If your significant other won’t use your home theater because they find it to complicated this can certainty help by being as simple as it is. As I have used the Studio Advanced Soundbar I am very impressed with the build quality, and how easy it was to setup and use. The more I listen the more I have gotten to like the sound. Yes, I would like a bit more control over the sound but it easily fills a large room, the sub is small but very high quality and it had no problem paring with the Soundbar no matter where I set it. And it’s a very attractive Soundbar with just a few buttons on the top to turn it on, change volume and inputs. It is simple to use, simple to setup and its does sound good. Does it do enough to justify the price, that’s a hard call to make. What it does it does very well with nothing in the way. Do I really need a Soundbar to do anymore, honestly probably not?

Logitech - G403 (Hero) Wired Optical Gaming Mouse – Black. My daily mouse which is the Logitech G502 Hero and the Logitech G403 Hero have a lot in common. But they differ a lot is in their ergonomics and the G502 does have quite a few more button options. Even with that the optical tracking sensor are the same, you can adjust the weight and the lighting effects are pretty much the same. And although the G502 does have more buttons I really find I don’t use them that much. In fact, I think the G403 gets the balance just right. In that respect I actually like the G403 better. But where it really matters to me is the way they feel in the hand. The G403 compliments the G502 by giving you a choice. I prefer the G502 but either works very well and I think that is really where the big difference that matters the most is. So, if the feel of the G403 is a better fit for your hand, save the few dollars and go that way. You are really not giving anything up and they are both very good as a daily mouse and of course they are excellent for gaming. Logitech probably more than any other company that makes gaming peripherals has been the leader and the go to manufacturer for PC gaming going back farther then I can remember. And although the G403 is almost on feature par as the G502 either is a great choice so go with the one that feels best for you.

Lorex - 8-Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance System - White
I am not a security camera expert although I do have some personal experience of my own having setup a few camera systems in the past. Most of my experience has been with wired and wireless IP cameras systems. They both have some advantages and limitation which made me want to try a package like this Lorex system. My current setup has been wireless outside cameras that have their own batteries. They have worked well but if you have to many notification your battery life suffers. So you have to be very careful what you allow to trigger them. Also they have to be mounted high enough so they are not stolen. That means you can plan on getting a ladder out every few months or weeks to charge the batteries. A wired IP camera like this wired Lorex system is still restricted as to where you can run the wiring. But unlike the Lorex system if you have more than a couple IP cameras you risk slowing down your home network with camera traffic you might not care about. This is one area where a true wired solution like the Lorex system excels. It’s always on and recording and the only time it affects your wireless network is if your viewing them on a phone or tablet.. Which of course you wouldn’t need to do that unless you get a notification or your just watching them because you can. The wireless IP cameras give you a lot of flexibility in where you might mount them, but that doesn’t do away with the network traffic or pulling out your ladder every few weeks. In this review I felt getting the cameras professionally mounted was the only true way to review them. I had the camera install quoted by several companies. Not one of them had any concerns that I already had the camera kit and I only wanted them installed. This seems to be a very common request and in each quote that was never an issue. I had prices quoted starting from around $85 to just over $100 per camera. Best Buy also quoted the installation and although they were competitive in the pricing I went with a local company only because of there lower pricing and excellent online reviews. My home is a two story and I could only install three of the four cameras because of the limited access in the attic to run the wires. Still I have almost complete outside coverage and much more than my wireless setup due to needing to place them so I could access them regularly. The actual install was about one hour for each camera. The security company that installed the cameras knew the Lorex brand very well and had nothing but good things to say about them. They were very impressed with the quality of the 4K images as was I. Also being Lorex they knew the software interface and although I really didn’t need any help on the configuration they could have helped me if I had needed it. I had already setup each camera and tested each one before they were installed. I had them setup to be viewed by my computers, tablet and phone before the install. When viewed on a monitor connected directly to the DVR you have a very comprehensive software program. I could go on for pages on the options I have including how and when the cameras send me notifications if specific zones detect motion. My wireless cameras has some of this capability but nowhere near the level of control I have with the Lorex system. I also must say the speed of the image cannot be compared in how much faster it is then the IP cameras. From my prior experience to get this level of security camera software that supports up to 64 cameras would easily exceed the cost of this whole package even adding in the installation. There is some very good free security camera software you can get but you will spend quite a bit of time learning it and setting it up. If you have cameras from different supplier that maybe a better option but I have to say it would still be hard to be the plug and play solution most people want and even with that you are not likely to get the amount of features packed here. This is really a great camera system for the price. The installer also commented on how much he liked these cameras and that’s all he does all day. So you really are getting a professional package here and if you have a single level home you may not need a professional installer. I am just getting a little old to go up 20 feet on a ladder and my attic is not a friendly place to do any work. I still have some final adjustments to make on setting up camera zones so I get accurate notifications but I am not having any issues streaming to my phone and the image quality over the wireless battery cameras is much better. Often you see news stories where they show camera images and you wonder why they don’t have a better image. I am sure you can pay for a better image but you are giving up very little here. I am very satisfied with the quality of the cameras, software and tools provided to access them. This is a great package that I can expect to get many years of service from. If you are a DIY person or do what I did and get an installer to help you, this package is an excellent choice.

Sorry battery life

Dyson - V7 Fluffy Cord-Free Stick Vacuum - Iron/Blue. I have used cordless vacuums in the past and they were so much easier to use then dragging a cord around. But somewhere along the way Dyson must have thought 30 minutes of battery life would be enough. Well I am not getting anything like 30 minutes. I have not actually timed it but it could be as much as half that much time. It does seem like the battery maybe getting better with use and I sure hope so because after four full charges and discharges it’s still a big disappointment. Also, when the battery is used up the vacuum just stops without any warning. Just bam your done even if you not and the vacuum just shuts off. So, take off the next three hours so you can go again. The vacuum itself has plenty of suction so the power is here. It comes with a large selection of attachments and can be walled mounted. Just be sure you mount it close to an electrical outlet because you are going to need it. This is my second Dyson product and I was impressed with the first one. But even though there is a lot of good stuff here the battery life just ruins it. I have a two-story house and it’s all wood downstairs and carpet upstairs. Don’t bother using this with carpet. It will go over my downstairs floor rug but tying to use this on carpet will certainly kill what little battery life you get. I cannot recommend a cordless vacuum that cannot get through one use on a wood floor of a small two-story home with no downstairs bedrooms. Let’s hope the battery life does get better otherwise Dyson needs to go back to the drawing board. One final comment. All of the weight is in the handle and although it is comfortable it does tire the hand. But with such a short run time maybe that won’t be a problem for most.

Nice solution for a video doorbell
on May 19, 2019
Posted by: Reddog
from Tomball, TX
SkyBell - Trim Plus Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell - Wired - Brushed Aluminum. I have been interested in a camera doorbell for a while now. But I didn’t want a monthly bill to have cloud access and notifications. The Skybell has worked out very well and meets these two main criteria. Others have mentioned that although it says aluminum in the description its is actually plastic and I think this is a real shame. I think it would have been a much nicer device if it was stainless steel. I don’t think that would have added much to the cost and would have raised the build quality. It is hard to know how well the plastic will hold up over time. Might be just fine but only time will tell. I did appreciate that for my installation everything was included. There was one exception and that was the inclusion of a flat head screw driver. You really need a philips head screwdriver so why the flat head. I also had to drill into the brick since my existing door bell mounting was close but not quite the same. Lucky they also include the correct drill I needed and the actual mounting was very easy. I can’t say getting it to work on my Android phone fun was just as easy. The directions online were not correct and I had to call SkyBell customer service to connect to my phone and network. I was on hold for longer than I like but the good news was the support person was aware of the instructions being incorrect and I was sent a revised instruction that solved my problem. No one wants to call support for help but they did solve my problem on the first try and that is what was important. If you are having any connection issues, I encourage you to call support. It was a simple two wire install and I connected the black and white wires the same as in the setup picture and other then my connection issues everything installed just fine. The camera on this device is the highlight and it performs very well. I have other wireless cameras installed and although they have been in service for at least a year you do have to climb up on a ladder and charge the batteries every few months. Its nice to have a simple camera that is powered all the time. So, you have a pretty simple install, cloud support, notifications when its triggered, very good image quality and no monthly costs. There are not a lot of options in the phone app but it works fine. I would give the SkyBell five stars but the plastic build and incorrect online instructions that should have already been updated is enough to take a star away. Still this should be on your short list as the few issues I site doesn’t outweigh the good that is here. And no monthly bill saves me time and money and that’s a value you really have to consider when your shopping for a similar device.

Great Value with loads of features

Hisense - 55" Class - LED - H8F Series - 2160p - Smart - 4K UHD TV with HDR. This will be my second Hisense TV and so far, the first one has performed very well. Hisense is a common brand and one of the top TV manufactures worldwide. I found this to be a budget friendly TV with a few highlights that make it a excellent entry level choice in its class. The star attraction here is the highly regarded Dolby Vision picture technology. This is very similar to the other common HDR10 standard. This TV supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10 right out of the box. It also has local dimming on the backlighting which gives you even better contrast. HDR content either Dolby Vision or HDR10 has to originate from the start. You can steam HDR Dolby Vision content but don’t expect to find it on your local cable stations. To see this TV is all of its possible glory you would need to play an UHD Disk with a UHD Disk player that both supported HDR content in either HDR10 or Dolby Vision. Standard HD content still looks very good on this TV so although you won’t have HDR content all the time you can take advantage of it when you do. Generally, the HDR content we will watch will be streamed. For your internet connection you have the choice of the built in wired or wireless connections. I used the wireless and was initially impressed with its performance. As I moved the TV around, I had some streaming issues but overall, I would rate its wireless performance as good. It has two USB ports and one is a USB 3.0 so that is a useful addition. It should provide faster speeds and it can put out a little more power to the connected device. It has a 3.5mm headphone or line out jack which is never a bad thing to have. It also supports sending audio out through one of the HDMI connections with its ARC support. You even get a digital audio out connection which altogether gives you a pretty flexible amount of connection options. And I didn’t mention all four HDMI ports are full UHD 60Hz compatible. The TV has its own built in Google Android TV. You can use any other smart TV interface you want. Setup on Android was very quick and both the TV itself and Android TV automatically updated. I ended up with Android 8.0 with a January 2019 security update. I hope the TV continues to receive timely updates and is something to be watching for over time. Although I felt the TV itself was a bland cabinet design there is much more here that I could still talk about and haven’t explored. The remote is very comfortable and the controls for the Android TV interface are very well thought out. The remote has some learning capability but something that is missing is good documentation. Expect to go to the Hisense website and download the manual if you want to dig in deeper on what all is here. It even appears each of the picture modes can be adjusted and even calibrated. Maybe not something most would attempt but hints at what is possible. I was even impressed with the audio just from the TV. On a good wireless or wired network, you could set this TV anywhere. Plug it in to an outlet and you’re ready for movie night. It is a bit big to be moving around much but it’s not a heavy TV either. I will say the license agreement during the first part of the setup was a bit much and I have very mixed feelings about that subject. Still taken on its own this is a very good TV with a ton of truly value adding features that all work together well.

My new office companion

Dyson calls there Dyson Pure Cool Me their first personal purifying fan. I took that to heart and took it to work. My job requires me to close my office door and not come out for hours at a time. I am alone most of the time and this seemed a perfect place to keep it personal. I have to say at first the spacy look didn’t appeal to me at all. I think one will either like the looks or not. At first, I didn’t like the look until I had more time with it. Then I began to appreciate it more for its function over form. But the looks can grow on you when its cleaning the air you breathe. The fan comes with a pretty comprehensive remote control for all of it settings. The remote control can be placed on the front of the fan when not in use by magnets. The filter is quite large and to get to it you just press two buttons to lift the top off and pull the filter out. Dyson rates the filter life for one year when used 12 hours a day. The front of the fan has a simple round LED display that shows you the condition and life remaining of the filter. It also will display your fan speed, oscillation on and off and stop timer setting. The timer can go as low as 30 minutes or up to 8 hours. The fan itself seems to easily have more power then you need as a personal fan. The air flow is adjusted by pushing lightly on the blub, or orb. Odd as it sounds it does make a large difference on where the air is directed. The range of movement allows if to sit on your desk or the floor. The fan and air flow can be adjusted so it is almost totally silent to be loud with enough air moving for an average size office or bedroom. The fan has a removable power adapter with a six-foot power cable that ends in quite a large power brick. But it all feels very well thought out and built well. So far, I am very impressed with what Dyson has engineered here and look forward to knowing my office will have cleaner air for those long hours I spend in it. It is also nice to have a breeze keeping me comfortable.

The Belkin DutaTek Plus Lightning to USB-A Cable + Strap is a very high quality cable that should provide years of service. The cable is made with Aramid fibers tightly woven and very flexible. I had no problem using it both for charging and transferring data. The cable comes with a leather strap that does not come off the cable and makes it easy to roll up for storage or travel. I have two issues for this cable. One is the price however, I can understand that with the cost of premium cell phones today it makes sense that you would want to use a high quality cable from a trusted brand. This surely meets that criteria as most Belkin products are very well made especially there Apple accessories. My other issue is the speckled color used on the connectors. Some might like this but it just seemed a bit out of place to me. Overall though I have had great luck with Belkin products over the years and I found this cable both versatile and very well made. The 4FT length is long enough to charge and use your phone at the same time but not so long that you would get tangled up in it. This is a very nice cable but the price might keep some away.

Can you add a SSD or NVME to the 528? Specs show an internal SSD PCIE! No pictures of the insides or specs anywhere online. Also looks like a 4 or 5 TORX for the back cover. Two screws near the hinge look like they are separate form the back cover????

The user guide makes no mention of being able to add additional storage.

What operating system does Google Pixel 5G uses e.g. Windows or Android?

The Pixel 5G is an Android phone and not a Windows phone. There is no new phones using Windows and hasn't been for years. The most current phone from Microsoft uses the Android operating system.

Groom unwanted facial hair using the Philips Norelco Nose Trimmer 5000, a premium precision trimming kit. The Protective Guard System privides the ultimate comfort while the rotary and detail trimmers cuts close. Use the eyebrow attachments to evenly trim your eyebrows. The long-lasting lithium battery provide multiple usage and the pouch makes the trimmer easy travel. The nose trimmer is fully washable, making it easy to clean by simply running under a warm faucet.

Your Description and Specifications say it comes with a rechargeable lithium battery, and that it recharges in 1 hour. Your manual says to use NON-rechargeable batteries. I see no provision for a charger in the packaging. Which is it?

The trimmer comes with a single non rechargeable lithium battery. There is also no battery charger in this kit.

Enjoy crisp powerful sound while gaming with this Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero wireless PC gaming headset. The rechargeable battery offers up to 30 hours of use, and the remappable on-ear controls let you adjust settings as needed. This Turtle Beach Elite Atlas Aero wireless PC gaming headset has a sleek metal headband and interchangeable cooling gel-infused memory foam ear cushions that provide a comfortable, secure fit.

Whats up with the lack of reviews on this, is this a new product? Are the ear cups leather? Is the mic attached or apart of the headset?

The lack of review might be due to it being a very new product. It can be found on the Turtle Beach website. The ear cups are a very soft pleather. You are not likely to see full leather ear cups at this price range or even higher. The mic is removable and the mute button is on the left headphone. The mic works very well.

Is it 5.1 or 7.1

It is neither. It is a full 3D sound environment and not separate channels. You can find this feature in some higher end headphones. It seems to work well but its not your average 5.1 or 7.1 surround channel that we think of. Go look for Waives NX 3D audio to find out more about this technology.
