built well, flattens my curlies

this flat iron does a very good just straightening by curly hair. It took me awhile to find the right heat setting, but once I did the flat iron did the job, lasting almost five days before I had to use it again. I found that the duration led me to have to use it less and the result was less heat damaged hair. The ample handle remains cool and it is easy to hold. Overall I'm pretty happy with the unit and hopefully it will last a few years. like the ten year old flat iron it replaced.

good product, heats up quick

this does a good job on my thin, straight hair. I took awhile to find the right heat setting, but once I did I was able to make good use of it. The curling iron is built well, although I think the handle is a bit short and could be larger. In any case it did the job and we'll see how durable it is. My experience with curling irons is generally they do not last more than two years, hoping for the best !

the GE Electric Kettle is a stylish looking hot water kettle, which is made from stainless steel and remains cool to the touch due to the insulation between the inner and outer walls of the kettle. It has a 1.7 liter capacity and boils room temperature in about 5 minutes. This model has a manual control, as opposed to the slightly more expensive, less capacity model with digital controls. Not much of a disadvantage with the manual control, except you don't get the "stay warm" feature after boil. Occasionally the unit will require descaling as described in the owners manual, given the somewhat narrow opening with the removable, locking top cover this might be a bit of a task. I anticipate having to use a brush with a diluted mix of white vinegar for occasional maintenance. Other than matching aesthetics if you have other small stainless steel appliances, not sure what this unit brings to the table over a glass kettle other than cool touch on the outside.

good espresso maker, compact footprint and works well. Only disappointment was it did not use the Nespresso VertuoLine pods I have already invested in, this unit uses the Nespresso OriginalLine capsules instead. Overall I'm happy with the unit and will see how it holds up over time and the maintenance required.

The Soundcore Rave Neo Bluetooth Speaker is another portable speaker geared towards providing a quick party atmosphere. It packs a punch and sounds good for the price, it is top of the line high fidelity speaker?, no it is not. However, it does the trick and pumps out the bass and can be tuned using the mobile app for different sound profiles. The mobile app can also control the LED bands of lights that are on the front of the speaker, which is appealing to some. The top of the speaker has controls for on/off, bass control, lights, Bluetooth pairing and another button which appears to be speaker linking (have not figured that out yet) Also above the power button is a battery level indicator which also comes in handy for determining the charging status. On the back panel there is a USB-C plug for charging, a USB-A plug to charge other devices and an Auxiliary line in plug. The speaker is waterproof and I have seen images of it submerged with lights on, although this is not something I would probably do.
I used this speaker over the holiday and was able to get almost 15 hours on the 75% charge that it came with it out of the box. Playing traditional holiday seasonal music demonstrated a good degree of ability to accurately reproduce sound.

I picked up a pair of these earbuds, now usually the lines are pretty well drawn in regards to true wire free earbuds which are not attached via a wire or some type of common “band” as is the case with the Ausounds - AU Flex ANC Planar Noise Cancelling Earphones. However, in this case the band is fairly comfortable and provides a bit more flexibility when designing the headphone unit. On the flexible neckband are controls for volume, track advance and noise cancelling mode, which toggle between active noise cancelling on/off and monitor mode which allows environmental noise to be heard for safety purposes. The noise cancelling is pretty effective and does a good job, usually traveling via air is an effective test of Active Noise cancelling, however due to the pandemic I have not taken any flights. However I ran a fan in a small room to gauge the ambient noise cancelling and it was effective (-25db claimed) not as good as my full over the ear active noise cancelling headphones I have, but close without the over the ear antisocial implications. The band also allows a USB-C port to be used to charge the unit at the edge of one side of the band, a nice touch vs. the smaller USB-micro B found on most devices.
How do these sound? “RICH” would best describe the sound profile perfectly, they have instantly moved to the top of my “earbud” pile, probably nudging out the ones I have from that four letter company which is known for speakers and car audio. The audio has depth and equals some of the wired headphones I have used. Now this could be due to it being “equipped with LDAC for a high-res wireless Bluetooth transfer rate of 990kbps”, not being overly familiar with the differences in Bluetooth standards and codecs (other than this is version 5.0 compatible) I am not sure if my iPhone 12 Pro is connecting and able to fully use that high bit rate capability, but if there is room for additional performance it would be amazing to hear.
As for the material I played to evaluate the performance of these headphones, it ranged from Podcasts, max bit rate Spotify streaming of rock music with low passages (as in Pink Floyd’s Animals), to the wall of sound that Devin Townsend is known for. Frequency response was even, without no artificial proclivities in bass response or at the high end.
The headphones are nicely packaged, come with three different sizes of earbuds, the default size installed seemed adequate for me and fit well. The over the ear hook helps to keep the earbuds properly seated in your ear, I did not find the ear hooks to be uncomfortable.
Overall, I am very happy with the performance of the Ausounds - AU Flex ANC Planar Noise Cancelling Earphones, even though I usually avoid headphones with a band or ear hooks, in this implementation those design features work and yield advantages.

solid multifunction printer

I have owned many Canon multifunction printers from the MX870 through the MX922 Canon series. They always were very reliable and worked well with an increasing feature set and expanding wireless connectivity options. The Canon Pixma TR8620 follows in that tradition and is essentially has the same footprint as some of the older multifunction printers.
Setting up the TR8620 is straightforward and can be performed with a smartphone or computer. The unit also features a large 4.3 color touch screen which is a substantial improvement over previous generations which can also be used to configure and control many features. Overall, the unit does a good job printing documents and pictures, although not overly speedy, but also has duplex (two sided) printing capability. Scanning can be done either via the flatbed scanner or through the document feeder for multi-page documents.
The Canon software provides a lot of options when installed on your computer, supporting multiple Canon printers including the G4010 printer I also have connected to my network. Smartphone based printing is also standard, as it is on most modern printers, including AirPrint when using Apple devices. The printer has a tray which you can pull out from the bottom of the front of the printer and load up with up to 100 pieces of paper. The unit uses five separate ink cartridges with two black cartridges, which I believe the larger of the two handles typical text printing. These days a number of printers are using ink reservoirs or refillable ink tanks, instead of cartridges. Not sure how many pages I will be able to print using the ink cartridges, but we will see.

high output car charger

The Belkin Boost Charge Dual USB-A car charger, packs 24 watts of power, charging devices at their maximum charge rate. This works well for quick charging phones, tablets or other devices. It is well built and comes with a high quality USB-A to USB-C cable. The charger provided reliable charging to two devices simultaneously. My only complaint is that the charger appears to have a little more height than typical car chargers. Frankly I prefer the lower profile car chargers as they do not tilt or are prone to being displaced. However I suspect the added height has to do with the wattage capacity.

The Belkin Boost charger packs power with two 12 watt capable USB-A ports. If you have a device and cable which are fast charging capable this charging block will quickly charge you device. Fast chargers usually get hot due to the current involved, but in this case the charging adapter stays relatively cool. The charger is well built, the prongs fold for easy travelling. Great charger for travel and home and will meet all your charging needs.

Video OK, microphone excels

The Logitech - C505 HD Webcam is a clip-on camera with HD 720P 30 frames per second video with an integrated microphone. It is a clip-on style webcam, the mechanism is not spring loaded – so you have to find a sweet spot for placing the cam in your preferred position. It needs to “lie” on a mounting spot as opposed to being fixed. You will not likely use this with a notebook as most have integrated cameras, would not well suited for mobile use unless your notebook is on fixed desk.
As for the video, it performs adequately, video is not particularly crisp and seems a bit noisy (speckled) especially in lower light situations. A selfie light ring might be appropriate if you are using this in a fixed location. The field of view is sixty degrees, and the camera rotates vertically providing a good level of placement flexibility. The audio which is prominently touted on packaging mainly delivers and is superior to most notebook microphones. The microphone delivered a rich voice in conversations and held up well in video conferencing.
Overall, this is a decent webcam which some positives and two negatives, was not thrilled with the resolution and noise in lower light situations. I would probably recommend the higher resolution 1080p camera though, perhaps their C920 Pro model which also includes stereo microphones.
