Wyze Cam Outdoor v2 takes everything you loved about the original wire-free, battery-powered Wyze Cam Outdoor to a whole new level. Now with our award-winning Starlight Sensor, you can see at night just as clear as day with Color Night Vision 1080p HD resolution. Get alerted when motion is detected, now up to 28% further away and set custom motion detection zones to only get alerts that matter to you. See even more than before with a wider, 130 degree field of view, so you can see more of what’s out there. Take advantage of the built-in security features like a motion-activated siren, two-way audio, and motion-detection alerts for even more peace of mind. Best of all, it’s easy to mount, has a 6-month battery life with easy recharging via microUSB, and you can even connect it to Wyze Solar Panel to eliminate the need to recharge ever again, depending upon your location.

decent hardware with a reliance on cloud services

The Wyze - Cam Outdoor v2 Starter Bundle contains a camera and a mini hub which plugs into your network via an Ethernet cable, unlike other models which connect to your WI-Fi access point directly, and it also contains a micro SD card to backup the micro SD card slot which is on the camera, in case your outdoor camera gets stolen you have a backup copy in the station. Again an odd choice as initially I tried to only install a micro SD card in the hub to save recordings, nope does not work. Pretty fundamental feature for other security camera, to be able to record to a central station. In any case the Outdoor Security Camera is an affordable option for video surveillance, but requires a per camera cloud subscription to get full AI features, as a matter of fact you can’t easily record motion triggered video easily without. I did discover a workaround which involves using the mobile app to schedule a long term continuous recording triggered by motion, this seemed to work – although the AI motion detection and subject framing is not available, in addition the interface for scheduled recordings is a bit clunky, really pushing you towards a cloud subscription. The design is a standard Wyze camera design and is just an update to the last model. The good thing about this model is it has a built in battery which claims to have about a 6 month battery life, which is dependent on how much motion detection it has to do. If you use the camera in a busy area, the battery will likely last substantially less, I got about a week of life on a full charge in a garage which has one car exiting and entering daily as well as some person traffic during the week – so strategically place the camera in an area where it will not pick up a lot of motion. For outdoor use the camera is certified as IP65 Weather resistant. The camera only does 1080p HD video, while the competition is starting to move towards 4K resolution. In any case the clarity of the video is still pretty good and the night vision about the best at this price point. Wyze claims to have “color night vision" which is unique as most night vision (driven by LED infrared lighting) usually is black, white and grey. The Starlight Sensor is what allows color night vision, and it does a decent job, but I still prefer the standard night vision mode, unless you have a decent amount of ambient light to support the color version.
Setup of the camera was fairly easy, with voice prompts and indicator lights, the mobile app does a very good job and leverages a QR code for the camera to scan to identify, configure and join the camera to you’re the wireless hub/receiver you attach via Ethernet to your network. As for detection, the motion sensing is decent but I often encountered recordings which started quite a bit after first detecting motion, I played with the settings a bit but never could really get the camera to be as responsive as I would expect in detecting motion.
Overall if you are already vested in the Wyze device eco-system the Wyze - Cam Outdoor v2 Starter Bundle is definitely an improvement over earlier versions, is it up to par with some other security camera solutions, depends on your use case.

Pros:
- Nice design
- Fairly clean, artifact free video
- Night vision modes, long range from the IR LEDs
- Micro SD card slot, for local recordings, time lapse
- 8x Digital Zoom
- Works with Google assistant, Alex and IFTTT
- You can use this camera in offline mode to record motion triggered clips directly to the micro SD card even if not connected at the time to the base station.
Cons:
- Cloud subscription is really necessary for this Wyze model, although there are workarounds.
- Smart AI Detection only available with Cam Plus subscription

The Wyze Cam v3 is the 3rd generation of Wyze’s flagship camera, the Wyze Cam v2. Like its predecessor, the Wyze Cam v3 lets you see and record 1080p video right from the Wyze mobile app. New to the Wyze Cam v3 is its water-resistant design allowing for outdoor installation with an IP65 rating. The Wyze Cam v3 also takes advantage of an all-new Starlight Sensor which allows for extreme low-light performance and shows great detail in the dark. With the Wyze Cam v3's color night vision, night time video recording appears as if it’s day time.

The Wyze Cam v3 with Color Night Vision, 1080p HD Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera is an affordable option for video surveillance, but requires a per camera cloud subscription to get full AI features. The design is a standard Wyze camera design, essentially a square with a swiveling expanding mount which makes it handy to mount in many places as long as you have a nearby power source.

Overall if you are already vested in the Wyze device eco-system the Wyze Cam v3 is definitely an improvement over earlier versions, is it up to par with some other security camera solutions, depends on your use case. I prefer the flexibility of a fully battery powered for placement purposes, so it that case it may make sense to look at their Wyze Cam Outdoor or another manufacturer, however those are usually significantly more expensive.
Pros:
- Nice design
- Fairly clean, artifact free video
- Night vision modes, long range from the IR LEDs
- Micro SD card slot, for local recordings, time lapse
- Works with Google assistant, Alex and IFTTT
Cons:
- Cloud subscription can get pricey if you have multiple cameras
- Smart AI Detection only available with Cam Plus subscription

powerful, compact charger

The Insignia 35 Watt Dual Port USB-C Compact Wall Charger is targeted towards iPhone, iPad and other devices, however as long as you have a USB-C cable it will charge just about any portable device. In a pinch it will even slowly charge a laptop with a USB-C charging port. In general this is a well design charging block with folding prongs to make it easy to pack for travel or even put in your pocket. I can quickly charge my iPhone and an additional device (note, with two devices charging at the same time, you will share the overall 35 watt capacity of this unit). Regardless I had no issues with the aesthetically pleasing device which matches other Apple white accessories you may have.
Pros:
- powerful and compact.
- does not really get warm, even at full rated wattage.
- fold-able prongs
- USB-C
- good value
- seems study and well built
Cons:
- can't really see any at this time
In closing, makes sense to go out and get this compact charger, it does what it is advertised to do.

great as a powerful hand vac
on September 2, 2022

The Tineco - PWRHERO 11 Pet Cordless Stick Vacuum is lightweight and useful. The vacuum is easily assembled in just a few minutes of snapping together various parts, for a standard floor vacuuming, attaching two sections of tube combined with a 10.4 inch-wide powerhead. There are a few variations you can use with the attachments including a smaller powerhead, an edge tool and one with a brush.
As for cleaning:
- Bare floors, 7 out of 10 - seemed to do ok, picking up dirt and hair without much effort
- Carpets, 8 out of 10 – good suction always desirable, the powerheads did seem to do a decent job with lifting the carpet and getting dirt and pet hair off the floor
- Furniture, 9 out of 10 – this seemed to really be where the unit excelled, especially when using it in a hand vac configuration. Picked up a good amount of black cat hair from out light-colored outdoor furnishings.
Using the vacuum:
The rechargeable battery slides into the main portion of the motorized piece of the vacuum. As with other vacuums these days, the battery and filters are proprietary which leaves me a little wary when they have to be replaced. For now, I’ll just clean the filter with high velocity air. The on/off is a trigger type which luckily has a locking mechanism, so your hand does not get tired. Overall, I found it a bit awkward to grip properly, although my wife with much smaller hands seemed to not have a problem and thought it was comfortable and light to use. There are three power levels, although I mostly used it on Max, lower power settings will yield better battery life which seems to impact the how quickly the motor spins after a few mins on max, but from then it runs at a consistent speed until the battery dies. Battery life really didn’t seem to be an issue as I got about the rated 40 minutes out of the unit, with about three hours to fully recharge. I did notice during especially intense cleaning sessions where the vacuum was pulling in less air from the cleaning surface the air coming out on the vent on the motor was pretty hot, almost blow dryer like at one point, not sure if this is normal but something to watch. When it had the ability to pull up more air (for instance on a bare floor) the motor exhaust cooled quickly.
Pros:
- Does a good job cleaning, especially in a hand vac mode configuration
- Wireless
- Multiple attachments including a Full-size hard floor LED power brush, Mini-power brush (awesome for hand vac mode) and 2 in 1 dusting brush and crevice tool
- provided dock station
Cons:
- some may find the grip awkward
- the stick modular portions are hard to separate
- motor exhaust can get warm to hot during certain cleaning conditions

nice looking, beware of sharp edges
on September 2, 2022

This air fryer is works pretty well, it is fairly small, with a stainless steel from facing finish. The digital controls come in handy, after having a manual model before I really appreciate the preset modes for cooking various foods. For a compact unit it has a deep basket which holds a surprisingly nice amount of food. As per the instructions I cleaned the unit with a wet paper towel to get any manufacturing residue off. I also ran the unit empty a few times to burn off any smell from the non stick interior finish. The bottom of the basket has a removable slotted bottom so any grease or drippings from the food you are cooking falls below the basket. Make sure the rubber feet stay in place on the grid, there is also a little elevated metal piece in the basket which can be used to get the grid out of the basket. I will say to be cautious, my unit had some sharp areas on the grid tray which sits in the bottom of the basket, the elevated metal piece also had this problem, so be careful.
As for how it cooked, did a great job, the food settings seem to be spot on, as shoestring fries I cooked came out perfect. Since the frying basket is compact the serving sizes generally are for 1 to 2 people at a time.
Pros:
- Digital presets for cooking times/temperatures – worked well
- Looks good with Stainless steel from panels
- Cooks well, everything I made it (using the presets) was spot on
Cons:
- A couple of sharp surfaces on the basket tray.
- no way to roll up the power cord – my older unit has two hooks on the back to roll up the cord when not in use.

Great little B&W Laser Printer
on August 28, 2022
Posted by: Bappy
HP comes up with a small, versatile Laser Printer. Nothing special here other that good quality laser printing. Coming from a long history of ink-jet printers for home use, I finally figured it was time to get a relatively low cost Laser Printer, who better than HP ? This has a two capacity toner refill regular and ultra-high-yield HP Toner Reload Kit which can yield about 5000 crisp laser printed black and white pages. The small foot printer can easily be place on a bookshelf of the corner of your desk. The setup was straightforward and easy with the HP Mobile App which detected the printer. The printer can connect a few different ways: USB 2.0, Ethernet 10/100, Bluetooth; 802.11a/b/g/n (2.4/5 GHz) Wi-Fi radio, Bluetooth Low Energy. The printer also showed up as an AirPrint printer on my Apple devices.
Pros:
- small and compact footprint
- crisp laser printed Black and White pages
- seamless duplex printing
- easy setup
- HP core technology - laser printing
- relatively low per page cost, reasonable cost for a printer.
Cons:
- none so far

Like the clip on style.
on August 15, 2022
Posted by: Bappy
Nice pair of earbuds I like the clip on style this way they stay in place. I have the lime green which was interesting and unique. As for how they sound you really need to put in the custom size earbuds that are provided to gain a decent level of satisfaction when it comes to sound quality. I wouldn’t exactly call these high Fidelity but they’ll do the trick. I do like the charging case they seem to do a good job with charging each one of the earbuds. Also the controls on each side of the earbuds are pretty straightforward and it’s just a light capacitive touch on each of them to gain different functions. For instance I believe the right ear is volume up left ear is volume down. There are similar tap combinations that can be used for different functions which is real handy especially in a lower end earbuds like these. Of course these are water and sweat resistant so perfect for your workout.
Pros:
- fits well with some adjustment and using different size earbuds
- Nice design nice case.
Cons:
- Have to use one of the three sized earbud tips to have decent sound quality otherwise they sound pretty tinny.

nice hardware for the price
on July 28, 2022
Posted by: Bappy
First, lets set expectations for the hardware, the Kangaroo - Indoor/Outdoor Wired 1080p Security Camera is a pretty cool compact surveillance camera. While connectivity to your network is wireless, it does require a power connection so this does limit where you can put it, especially given that this is also able to be used outdoors. The little cube camera has a magnetic mount a portion which folds out a bit, nice as you can attach it to metal surfaces. I put the camera to good use to monitor the new cat we adopted, it was purrfectly suited to the mission, tracking movement night and day when my cat went to get food and water, sending alerts to my phone via the mobile app. It also picked up a mystery flying (apparently insect) occasionally at night setting off the motion detection, still have not figured out what it is (perhaps my house was built on an ancient burial ground). In any case the camera does what I want for a relatively cheap price.
Now to the negatives, the device seems to lean heavily on upselling of their cloud services. The setup experience required a mobile phone and asked for a myriad of personal information, including address and the app wanted all kinds of permissions including precise location services turned on all the time. This has been a pet peeve with me as of late, mobile apps that what permissions that don’t really make a lot of sense to me. I know the obvious items like setting up some of their other home security components and services, but in this case, I was not interested in those services or products – just the camera. Luckily, I still run 2.4ghz on my wireless router in addition to the now more common and modern 5ghz band, as this camera requires the older frequency, not a problem if your run dual bands, but some people don’t. In any case I did not have any issues streaming video at the lower throughput provided by 2.4ghz Wi-Fi.
Onto their cloud services, you need to subscribe to be able to use the video you could record locally on an SD card, yes local storage you need to pay for to access. Also speaking through the camera also requires a subscription as well as accessing any video in the cloud beyond 24 hours. I get it, they need to push their cloud services, but crippling an otherwise decent camera is a bit much.
Pros:
- Good 1080p video and sound, no issues streaming
- Compact and well built
- Decent mounting options
- Mobile app is pretty nice
- Can save video from cloud to your Camera roll as well as recording live video and still photos
Cons:
- Subscription required for anything recorded more than 24 hours ago and talking through the app to the camera
- Amount of Information requested during setup.
- Only 2.4ghz Wi-Fi connectivity
- Cloud recordings can’t be played back full screen in iOS app unless you save them to your Camera Roll first (Live videos can go full screen in the app, go figure).

Air purifier or giant bagel slicer ?
on July 19, 2022
Posted by: Bappy
As being highly allergic to dust and seasonal pollen clean air is always a priority for me. Add on top of that always liking a bit of air flowing in my direction and having a spouse who despises ceiling fans (after I installed one). The LG - PuriCare Smart HEPA AeroTower Air Purifying Fan, seems like a good fit for my household. Having the ability to clean air, rotate the whole unit in oscillating mode, using a diffuser to redirect air up and adjusting it to pinpoint air flow towards my favorite TV viewing spot without annoying the wife is a win win.
First off, the unit is fairly large and a bit unwieldy to remove from the box, luckily there is an indentation on the rear of the unit that you can place your hand into to move the unit (while gently holding the top front). You really don’t want to try to drag or slide the unit after it is on its rotating mount, as having is level is integral in ensuring the unit can swivel on its base in room circulating or oscillating mode. The air purifying wants to connect to your Wi-Fi to enable the LG Thin mobile app to work. Now that is great, but it would not integrate with the same app that controls my LG OLED TV. I had a real difficult time setting up the smart app, I wound up using an old iPhone 6s, which I essentially use as a remote control for smart devices. In reality I believe the app was hung up on access to precise location services being enabled, and also tracking your location all the time. I am very cognizant of privacy issues associated with Mobile apps and other than getting the local weather and outdoor air quality I’m unsure why this is even required, especially precise location. And adding the device to an existing LG Thin App without these permissions does not prompt you to add them and/or is not satisfied with not having precise location services turned off. OK, privacy rant over.
Otherwise after removing the protective bag covering the filter, I was able to fire up this Air Purifier and start experiencing better air and better circulation of it. The unit has a nice display which indicates current air quality and various modes as you change them. The included remote can also be used to control the unit (and attaches magnetically to the side of the unit for safekeeping). I prefer using the smart app, as settable options are easier to control and you can see the air quality trends in your house over time, as well as room temperature and humidity. As a matter of fact, my daughter unfortunately likes to vape and I prohibit that in my house, the historical data on air quality acts as big brother, indicating if she is vaping and contributing to the degradation of my indoor air quality while I am away, this actually works pretty flawlessly. As for the cooling ability, it has fan speed settings of 1 through 10 and a turbo mode which is the highest speed. Only in turbo mode is the noise from the fan noticeable, otherwise this is one of the quieter air purifiers/fans I have. Inclusion of a UV LED light to disinfect the fan blades is a feature in the model I have, the usefulness of this is debatable, although the concept is similar to a UV light used to bathe air conditioner coils in UV light. I have another air purifier that does something similar while air is pulled through the unit and the science clearly states that the air would need to linger in the unit to effectively be disinfected by the UV light. LG uses a different approach in killing germs which gather on the fan blades.
I have another air purifier from a manufacturer of air filters and that unit seems to do a better job at measuring indoor air pollution and has the advantage of its replaceable media (air filters) being substantially cheaper. That unit also has washable pre filters which can larger particles of dust before the main filter. The LG unit only has a single drum shaped HEPA filter which is said to last a year, however the replacement cost is at least $100. However, the LG unit does an effective job eliminating things like allergens, dust, lint, mold spores, bacteria, viruses, and pet dander, just using a bit of a different approach.
Pros:
- Great job filtering air
- LG Smart app, the same one I use to control my LG TV can be used.
- Easy to replace the HEPA filter
- nice design, and the ability to precisely target air flow direction is a great feature
- wife says it looks like a giant bagel slicer
Cons:
- large size makes it difficult to move, unpack, setup.
- Not sure the unit is as pollution sensitive as the other smart air filtering unit I have.
- Smart phone app setup, privacy concerns (why do you need precise location access on my mobile device all the time?)

If you’ve ever suffered a car accident, you know how important it can be to have a witness back you up. Now you can have one wherever you drive with the NS-DASH150 4K Front and Rear Dashboard Camera System. This handy two-camera system records in front of and behind your vehicle with wide angle lenses that minimize blind spots. 4K Ultra High-Definition video playback provides crystal-clear imagery—even when recording at night. Special G-sensor technology detects collisions and automatically saves and locks the recording, protecting the video for later reference. A loop recording feature overwrites old (unsaved) footage to conserve memory card space. These cameras have a temperature-resistant build that, along with secure adhesive and suction mounts, make for a durable and long-lasting design. Finally, this system plugs into your standard 12 V vehicle accessory port, requiring no additional power to operate. Whether you’re protecting yourself from future accidents or just wanting to record a nice Sunday drive, this front and rear dashboard camera system will have your back on the road ahead.

4k dashcam video at HD prices (plus rear cam)
on July 18, 2022
Posted by: Bappy
The Insignia Front and Rear dashcam system is an improvement on the previous HD version as the front camera will do 4K 30fps video. In addition, there is an actual second camera which mounts on your rear window, this one can do 1080p video. The thing I like about this version is the rear camera is not just on a swivel face rearward (which in my opinion didn’t really capture to well what was driving behind you due to contrast differences. This version attaches via wire to the rear unit and has all the normal features you would expect in a higher-level brand. The only thing missing is a touchscreen, but in order to maximize the non-touch screen on the front camera unit, the control buttons all reside on the bottom of the camera.
This duo of cameras comes in at a lower price point in comparison to other higher end dashcams, but still gets the job done.
The front facing camera does not have some of the features that more expensive brands do, so no GPS (thus no speed display), no wireless connectivity (files have to be copied off the micro-SD card – which is not included). But then again, the unit does have shock sensor, so if you get in a collision the video files will be marked protected and not looped over with new files.
The video recorded is crystal clear from both the front and rear cameras and really provides a good field of view. One of my other dashcams proved useful an accident I was involved in, clearly showing a vehicle making a left turn right in front me in an intersection. The video proved very useful for the responding officer so he could write up his report of the accident. I also sent the video to the insurance companies involved and they quickly cited the cause of the accident (which was the other driver). So this dashcams really becomes an indispensable tool to keep all accident parties honest. (Plus you never know when you'll capture a falling meteor).
Pros:
- Clear 4k 30fps or 1080p 60fps video from the front camera
- Full 1080p video from the rear camera
- Well built
- Reasonable price
Cons:
- None, as long as you are not looking for touch screen or advanced connectivity features.
- No GPS
